Cesar is very professional, honest, reasonable, clean and an expert with all roofing repairs. I was previously scammed by a roofing company who didn't repair my roof correctly and also used cheap materials as well. After, 6 months, my roof started leaking again. In April 2017, I contacted Cesar whom was extremely helpful and knowledgeable during the estimate site visit. Therefore, I hired him to repair my flat roof and he installed natal on 2 sides of my flat roof and stripped it in with roofing membrane, installed a metal bar inside the gutter and stripped in the seams and installed new roofing membrane as well on other areas. Cesar did such an amazing job, that my sister hired him within the same week to repair some shingles on her home. I NOW have a Roofing Contractor to use on all of my future roofing repairs. Thank you Cesar! Job well done!

3 months ago We had Easy Seal and Roofing replace our roof and gutters on our 40 year old home. Chris came out to give us a quote, and the crew was able to come out and complete the work right away. The crew was fast, polite, clean, and efficient. They also installed some much-needed ventilation in the roof. We are very pleased with our experience with Easy Seal and Roofing, and we recommend them to everyone we know. Highly recommended!

We did a full first floor remodel - laminate flooring, new paint, crown molding, granite counters, and some other odds and ends. Hit a few snags along the way (which is to be expected) but we always worked together for a solution. We've recently sold the home and buyers have been very impressed. Would use Johnny again.

We had a roof leak on a flat roof six flat -Steve Stevens gave us a knowledgeable assessment, pointed out a couple of other maintenance issues that I'd missed -I'm an ex-tradesman myself so I think I know these things, and Shield Roofing made the repairs for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

I have a charming historic house in Hinsdale built in 1976. Was charming except for the basement, which I considered "the dungeon" until Nick recently remodeled it! It has a stone rather than poured foundation, typical of its age, that has been a problem since I moved in 30 years ago. The walls crumbled over time as mortar between the stones disintegrated. It's been very hard to find anyone who knows how to address this problem. Over the years several people put cement on the walls to stop the crumbling, but none ever did a very good job and it needed to be redone every few years. Nick Duta was the only one I met, who seemed to know what to do with it. I was impressed from the start at how extremely detailed and complete his proposal was. His crew spent a number of days just hammering out all the loose motor from the inside walls, and part of the outside, which no one else ever did. They dug a trench outside the house at the worst cracked wall, removing all the disintegrated mortar there, then put layers of waterproof concrete on all the inside walls and gaps in the outside wall, and sealed the outside with additional tar and foam. They also broke through the outside stair-landing concrete and installed a drain, tying it into the inside basement drain to eliminate rain water accumulating outside the door. They then repaired the existing basement floor, cracked due to water damage, putting down wire mesh and a 2 inch layer of concrete over the existing floor and then vinyl tiles. They also replaced all the galvanized plumbing pipes that I had thought was done when the house was remodeled 5 years ago by another company, but learned from Nick that they did not actually do this. Finally they put in some needed electrical outlets and built tasteful looking closets with louvre doors around all the basement utilities (Washer and Dryer, Boiler, Sump pump etc), also installing a new hot water heater and utility sink. Thanks to Nick my basement is no longer a dungeon, and now looks quite nice and is very functional. This was all done at what I believe was a fair cost. It was a pleasure doing business with Nick as he is extremely competent, honest, conscientious and hardworking. He has high standards and can address almost any infrastructure issue. He is easy to work with and attentive to one's concerns. I felt extremely lucky to have found him to do all this difficult work! I would certainly give him my highest recommendation and am hiring him again to rebuild my front staircase, a measure of my satisfaction with his work.

I was having problems with my roof for the past three years and always seemed more confused after a contractor left, Until Stanley's roofing and construction showed up with a positive attitude and detailed ideas on how to solve the problem. They uncovered rotted decking and a few problems concerning my skylight, We agreed on a fair price and they perform the work in a professional manner and courteous manner. I would strongly recommend Stanley's.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
