My experience with Sam and Rapid Air far exceeded my expectations. He was on time for his appointment, friendly, courteous and completely professional. He did a thorough inspection of my clothes dryer and accurately identified the problem. He not only replaced the defective part, but completely cleaned the inside and outside of the dryer and all the related duct work leading to the outside of the house. He even replaced the exhaust hose in the back of the dryer as part of his service. Sam took great pains to be respectful of my house and property. Even though went outside and came back in multiple times while cleaning the duct work and had much of dryer taken apart in order to do the repair, he left my laundry room as clean or cleaner than it was before he arrived. The price he charged was very fair and the service was great. I would highly recommend Rapid Air to everyone. Thank you Sam.

Paul provided exceptional customer service on my washing machine repair. This is after having one clearly inexperienced technician fail to fix an easy issue. Paul not only added my problem to his Friday schedule (on the same day) he traveled from the North side to the South side after 5 pm. Paul is a professional in every sense.

David was very prompt with reply's before I hired him for my dishwasher repair. Once he came out he was very detailed in what he was doing an explained what should and should not happen. He also was nice enough to ask for towels or clothes in order to keep water from spilling on the floor. I also had a hood range that I needed installed. David was nice enough to wire the unit as well as drill holes in cabinet so that I could install the hood. Thanks for all the help David!

Josh answered quickly and came the very same day to look at the repairs to be done. The next day everything was done and well done! I've been very pleased to work with Josh: fast, good worker and good price! And despite the very cold weather he stayed a bit longer to also fix and adjust our garage door. A crack! I'm not attaching picture because the painting is still pending (too cold to paint outside). Won't hesitate to call him again in the future when needed

I appreciate how he advised getting a new refrigerator rather than pocketing money for a repair that would have cost nearly as much as the repair.

Had a good experience. Ken came and resolved the issue by rodding the toilet and showed the deodrant stick that was stuck. He saved me buying a toilet although some scratch marks were left on the porcelan bowl. I am trying to get those scratches out by chemicals.

All aces! Mike works out of his house and keeps his expenses down! Smart. He has amazing service and know how. He will bend over backwards for you. This is the type of guy who does not need an instruction manual. He knows equipment like the back of his hand. He has saved me on several occasions and he is always fair. A real superhero! You can't ask for more than mike for small engine repair. You can trust this guy.... I absolutely love him.... he won't tell you but he is a church-going man and he lives out his faith with his actions. Sincerely Rocky Ruggiero

I had other servicemen come to give estimates to repair my oven, the estimates were outrageous. I called LaCosta, he arrived the same day to repair my oven. He repaired the oven at a reasonable price. Very cordial and professional all at the same time.

Art & his partner came about an hour after being called, on a Saturday, to fix my dryer. I found them to be very professional & friendly. They diagnosed the issue & gave me a price. They also showed me the part that was faulty. After deciding whether to approve the repair my dryer was fixed very quickly. They seem to take pride in their work & understand the value of customer service. I will definitely use them again & recommend them to others.

Let me first say that I don't do anything without reading the reviews first, but I never write them...I just have to share my experience with this company. Handyman Frank were the most considerate, hard working and honest guys I have ever met. I have used their service a few months back and were so impressed with their ( Richard and his nephew Frank Jr.) service that I decided to use them again. I received the promised work and so much more. The owner ( Frank ) humbly pointed things out that were in desperate need of repairs that I was unaware of or chose to ignore. The owner Frank recommended that I consider prioritizing. I agreed and Handyman Frank and his crew Frank Jr.,Kay and Frank did everything that needed immediate attention and so much more for a great price and with a smile. I have found my new go to guys. My satisfaction with this company was something I just had to share with everyone and anyone looking for extremely professional, hard working, honest and yes affordable contractors or handymen. I happily rate this a 5 star service company.

I had the controller to my ceiling fan replaced, a wall outlet replaced to add usb slots and two wall switches replaced. Work was completed same day though it took longer than expected due to trouble with some wiring. The cost was extremely reasonable. Workers were very courteous and professional. I would use them again.

We do professional installation and repair of in-ground and portable basketball systems, exercise equipment and assembly services for RTA (ready to assemble) furniture. We have all the equipment, tools and experience necessary to do a complete professional installation or repair. With over 20 years' experience, we perform every installation for our customers the same way we would if we were doing it at home for ourselves.

I have studied for three years about appliance repair. I will be starting up in the near future but as for now, I will be using my book smarts to machines now and will have to get used to all the different machines. I will only offer very low rates at the beginning, and when I start up, I will probably go by the standard book fees as most appliance repair persons. I work during the day but will do this on nights and weekends depending on your location. I work in Carol Stream and drive to Hampshire, places in those areas. I will most likely take on some further places on the weekends.

We provide affordable home repair and maintenance services, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, demo, trash-outs and apartment turnovers.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
