I met with Ken today for the free consultation and was very impressed. He took the time to listen to me, a 74-year-old woman who turned out to be even more out of shape than I thought I was! He asked questions and, from my answers, not only identified problems I knew I had, but some I didn't know I had - and showed me how to begin to fix them. He spent about an hour with me, helping me perform exercises and telling me why certain things I had been doing on my own were beneficial and why others were not helping at all. We discussed options and who I would have as a trainer, what my preferences were, and what I was able to budget. As soon as he receives medical clearance from my doctor I will begin the program with the trainer he feels would be the best fit for me. I have absolutely no reservations about the training that will be provided and am confident that it will help reduce and eventually eliminate the chronic pain I had been suffering with for over a year now. Even this evaluation session has already helped - I now know what to do to temporarily reduce some of the worst pain I suffer with so that I can function better, walk better, and move better than I've been able to for the past year or so. Some Background: I was looking for someone with experience training former athletes, both physically and nutritionally. The only workouts and eating habits I had developed were for football training and I had let myself go significantly since 2011. Whenever I went to the gym I was defeated and found myself lost without a regimented plan. I tried another trainer in the area but needless to say I was not receiving the same amount of commitment I was putting forward. Finding a Trainer: I moved to KC from New York in 2012 for work, so being new to the area made finding a trainer that much more difficult. I found this website, posted my situation and my goals, and within the day I received a very straight forward, professional email from this guy "Bobby Nelson" who wanted to schedule a meeting to talk more. Not sure what to expect, I read the other reviews and felt comfortable to make the trip. Along comes Bobby: From first walking in the door I could see bobby from across the room; big-ass grin on his face and an outwardly positive personality. He was genuinely interested in my my situation and LISTENED to my goals - something that was very important to me. We discussed scheduling, nutrition and not only how the next 8 weeks of my life would change, but how my lifestyle would as well. I'll get into more detail below, but this initial meeting went well enough that I scheduled my evaluation. Price: First off, Bobby's rates are not only reasonable but CHEAPER than most others with half the acumen and professionalism. Moreover, for a trainer with Bobby's years of experience, capability and knowledge of fitness, the value was and continues to be incredible. Initial Evaluation: Our first session was a fitness evaluation and measurements. I told Bobby from the begging where my strengths and weaknesses lay and to my pleasure these were not ignored, rather worked into our plan. This isn't to say that Bobby took it easy on me, quite the opposite. He took the time to learn my limits, how hard I could push myself and how open I was to being pushed that much further. Needless to say, this went well enough that I scheduled my gym sessions and signed right up! Gym Sessions: Our schedule was 3 days a week in the afternoons. After a while, we built up to more intense workouts and are continuing to get even better. Don't expect to be sitting still very often - these workouts will challenge you, but are easily modified if you cant do it at first. I have a few more sessions left and look forward to what Bobby has concocted in that bald-headed mind of his (I'll pay for that later today when we train). Meal Plan: The meal plan was designed around our workouts to give me the energy needed to get through. I found it wasn't too hard to cook or prepare what was on the plan, quite the opposite - Even though I went into this looking to change everything overnight, I was surprised that the meal plan included some food that I already ate and loved. I have gone through 2 meal plans so far and look forward to the next 2. These have been fantastic. Bobby as Trainer: Willing to work with your schedule. Never had an issue rescheduling if something came up, but always held me accountable. Also, gave me very specific workouts on the days we were not meeting. Always positive, up-beat and ready to help YOU. Not interested in showing off how strong he is, or what he is capable of, rather makes you feel comfortable with who you are no matter the level of your fitness and lets you set the pace. Has the long-term goals in mind. Knows that physical fitness and healthy living isn't a sprint, its a marathon. I found it very easy to talk and build a report with Bobby. I think that's just because of the type of person he is and our compatibility. Overall Result: I am about 6 weeks into my 8 week schedule. At first I was slow - couldn't make it 20 minutes into a session before wanting to call it quits. Now, I am *almost* able to go for the full hour, but that's only because of how hard Bobby and I go at it (Like I said, you can set the pace!) I feel better, look better, lost inches off my chest, waist and arms, the whole 9 yards. Start: 300 lbs. 42 waist 52 jacket Now -6 weeks in 275 lbs (as of a few days ago, so probably less) 40 waist, on the cusp of 38 50 jacket, and I need them taken in but only because 48 is too small So in summary, if you are serious about getting into shape and willing to put the effort in, Bobby is your trainer HANDS DOWN. If you are looking for a trainer that is all about ROI Bret is the guy for you! To see top results it's all about total wellness. Bret is more than well versed in the latest fitness techniques to drive results in the gym, but he takes it to the next level as he focuses on your nutrition and overall health. He broke down my diet, showed me where room for improvement was, and then showed me how to cook a well balanced diet. This overall approach in combination with a truly inspiring and positive attitude allowed me to see far quicker and better results compared to my personal training sessions at one of the top gyms in Chicago. The one thing I can't stress enough, which Bret focuses on, to see results the gym is just one part but without a complete approach you compromise success. I had not worked out regularly in years and Michael in a very short time has already improved my mobility, strength and fitness level. Michael tailors the training sessions to you - I always feel like I get a great workout and am more motivated at the end of each session. Each training session is a little different, keeps things interesting and makes me look forward to working out. Allen has been training me for well over a year now and he comes to my house 4 times a week. I have a hectic schedule and I am only available in the early mornings at 6 am. Before finding Allen, I had a hard time finding a trainer that was willing to work with my schedule until I found Allen who was flexible, understanding and willing to work with my availability. Once we started training together, I was amazed by his effectiveness as a trainer, nutritionist and an overall guru with a variety of exercises, training techniques, and supplement recommendations to go along with my training. I have worked with many trainers in the past, I think Allen is trainer #6 and I can honestly say he is the real deal! I am in the best shape of my life even though I am approaching 40 years old. It also helps that he is very punctual and in over a year, he has never shown up a minute late to a workout!(show more)
I feel so fortunate to have met Bob. I was in a car accident and having terrible back issues. I was under the care of a pain management specialist and still not getting much relief. I decided to start training with Bob to build my core strength. He reviewed my MRI and we started a training program. I cant believe how much better I am feeling. I used to have consistent back pain and now I only have a bad day here and there. I started because of my back issues but I continue training because I am amazed at how far I have come and realize when I don't train my back starts bothering me and the sciatica returns. I didn't go into this to lose weight or get a toned body. I just wanted to feel better. The bonus is I have lost weight lost inches and I really enjoy getting these weekly workouts in. I love that Bob is always there for you, listens to your concerns, modifies exercises for your health concerns and always has great motivating suggestions. He always has a great variety of workouts and his quick wit will keep you on your toes.(show more)
Jim is one of the best coaches I've ever learned from. I had him as a professor for several of my strength training classes as an undergraduate in Exercise Science which all of them had a hands on portion. He is not only very knowledgeable regarding every aspect of training but he is also outstanding at the delivery of it. Seriously, if you are trying to get stronger, more athletic, move better, or just look better, Jim is the man you are looking for to help you out.
