I really appreciated the speedy service to install a new water heater on a weekend without extra cost. Gino and Alex were polite and very neat, everything was left just as it was found. I'm very happy with my new water heater and would use Ara's Plumbing again.

We hired LoProstis to assist with a water heater issue in our home. Brian, from LoProstis, called us right away for an initial consultation over the phone, and within an hour, he arrived at our house to explain what went wrong and the course of action needed to repair the water heater. We appreciated his honesty and the accuracy of his quote in order to fix the issue, but more importantly, we appreciated the education that came along with it. Not only did Brian install a new water heater in our home; he also help us to select a reputable brand, based on his recommendation and hauled away the old water heater. He did not compromise on his professionalism to charge a higher fee (given the fact it was a weekend and one of the coldest day of the year), nor use that as an opportunity for a surcharge. It's very rear to find an honest contractor and who's willing to do the right thing, and Brian has both. He exceeded our expectations and got up and running within hours. We would definitely hire Brian again. Thank you for your hard work and excellent service, Brian.

I was really very pleased with Chris' service. He was very professional. One thing that I was really impressed with was his punctuality with contacting me when I had some questions. Ludwig plumbing went beyond what I expected and did the job in a acceptable amount of time and an affordable price. I had about 5 other plumbers over to look at the work needed to be done. The other plumbers failed me by not contacting me after they gave me the quote. They didn't follow up. I had Chris install a tankless water heater, water softener and water filter. Our family is very pleased with the level clean and hot water we now have. I highly recommend Ludwig plumbing for all your plumbing needs. I will hire again without hesitation.

The repair Technician, Miguel Vargas, responded to my call for water heater repair on a Sunday and was able to get the water heater functioning in the interim period while the part that needed to be replaced was on order. They turned this around in 24 hours and my water heater was fully repaired. Miguel was friendly and explained the issue fully to me. The pricing was fair and the work was done expeditiously. I would highly recommend him and All-4Climates, for Heating, Cooling and Water Heater issues.

Sam is definitely the best at what he does! And his pricing was very fair to me (good Value!) Sam fixed and did maintenence on our 19 year old central air conditioner. After he acid cleaned outside fins and the evap coil, added refrdgerant and tightened the valve cap, even though it was was 93° outside, the basement temp was a frosty 68°. On a 19 year old unit thats amazing. We had fairly competent people in past but only Sam was smart, knowledgable and cared enough to know how to really do the job well. Also, he planned next move to fully check for leaks other than a loose valve cap but no need; Sams brights, knowledge and experience did the trick. Even though Sam is so good that he is booked solid for weeks, he is truly dedicated to taking care of his customers. We had a leak continue but even though he had work lined up elsewhere, he made time somehow (energetic fast worker) to come quite a distance the very next day and get our a/c going. A few weeks later, we remain cool and happy. We are an elderly couple and without Sam's gracious dedication our home would not have been safe for us because of heat. Now no problem :) But wait, there is more: Yes, we hired Master Finish for a dyer vent cleaning. Our vent run is a long one, but Sam has the right tools and totally cleaned the vent long very flexable hose-like device that allowed Sam to clear the elbow bend of our venting system without having to take apart the duct work. We had been spending about $45 a month at the laudramat but now it's just the cost of detergent and electric. But, wait, there is more!! Sammy has skills with clothes dryers. (I'd guess with other appliances too but no time to "go there" Fact: most Fires from use of dryer come from dust on the dryer heating element. Sam was able to quickly put the dryer on it's side, open the back and blow the dust which was on top of the dryer heating element. Maytag cost would have been 60% higher! Yes even more :) Sam does not make up work for himself. He checked the washer water hose and let us know it was still fine. We call him our house doctor. Thank you very much,

I am so glad I chose to hire Pride Plumbing. The technician sent was named Adam, he is such a professional gentleman. He explained to me why the water heater couldn’t be saved, why a new one was needed, and the complete process of the job. One thing I absolutely loved is how knowledgeable he was & gave me options of what kind and type of water heater I wanted, opposed to companies offering you the one or two they make the most money off of. He completed the job in a couple hours and I swear our basement is cleaner than it was before he installed the water heater. I felt comfortable having him in our home. I’d highly recommend hiring Pride plumbing..!!!

Jason provided a high level of service. We had other HVAC/Boiler vendors and all of them recommended a boiler based on the square footage of the unit as opposed to the length of the coils in the house. Jason properly measured and recommended a boiler for us that was not only right for the space, but right for the existing infrastructure. Jason was professional, very knowledgeable, punctual and did the work at a very fair price. Jason also installed a water heater for us the same day. I highly recommend Jason for boiler and water heater installations!

Elliott arrived as scheduled to assess the problems with our Bosch tankless water heater. He explained to us clearly what was wrong with our water heater and we determined it would be better to replace the water heater than to repair it. I was then contacted by Kevin Polka who explained the various options available to replace the water heater. Kevin answered all of my numerous questions and sent me a clear proposal after we chose to replace our Bosch tankless water heater with two Noritz tankless water heaters. Then, Don and Doug arrived yesterday as scheduled to complete the work. The water heaters and piping were installed without a problem. They look great and our basement was left cleaner than before they started the work. The water heaters are working great and for the first time in a long time I was able to shower without being burned or freezing!!! I was extremely impressed by all the Paragon team and am looking forward to hiring them for the maintenance of the water heaters. The whole contract and installation process went without a problem, unlike the installation of our original Bosch tankless water heater several years ago.

I received the quotes through Thumbtack and ServiceMax had provided the best price compare to other competitors, so I gave it a try. I immediately contacted them to see if they would be able to come out servicing my heater issue on the same day. Without the doubt, they responded immediately and dispatched a technician whose name is Mike Malek to address the problem. They also provided courtesy calls prior to arrangement. He showed up on my doorstep right on schedule. Well professionalism and very prompted. He spotted the problem in no time. He quickly left to grab the part and came back in a short while. He then fixed the problem in 20 minutes. Overall, I was very satisfied with the services and the results. Highly recommended and definitely I look forward to doing business with them again.

Service was on time, excellent and pricing very reasonable. The owner and his brother-in-law were very efficient in performing the task of water heater installation and ready to explain what was needed and what was being done. I would recommend this company as one that is reasonable and professional.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

When is it time to replace a water heater?

Although regular water heater maintenance and water heater repair may extend the life of your hot water heater, it won’t last forever. Most water heaters have a life expectancy of about 10 years. Many water heaters need to be replaced when they’re 8-12 years old — that’s when they start to show signs of fatal wear, such as leaking around the base of the tank. A water heater should be replaced when it fails to sufficiently heat water for the home; if your heater is operating erratically, check first for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker to make sure an electrical issue isn’t causing the problem. Another time to replace a water heater is when you want to upgrade to either a larger model or a more energy-efficient one.

Why is my hot water not working?

The most common complaint among homeowners is that their hot water isn’t working — and the water heater is generally the culprit. Typically, it isn’t making the water as hot as you’d like it to be. When the water isn’t hot enough — or isn’t hot at all — run through this troubleshooting checklist for basic water heater repair tasks:

    • Make sure the power is connected to the heater, then reset the thermostat.
    • If it’s a gas water heater, make sure the pilot light is lit.
    • Raise the temperature setting on the thermostat.

If these stops don’t lead to hot water, it’s time to either check the heating element in an electric water heater or the burner unit and gas control valve in a gas-powered heater. A water heater repair and maintenance company can handle these repair jobs. However, if your hot water heater is eight years or older, it may be time to replace the water heater instead of repairing it.

Who can fix a water heater?

When a water heater stops running effectively, it’s best to hire a water heater repair professional to troubleshoot the problem. Whether it’s a plumbing company that offers water heater repair services or a provider specializing in water heater repair and maintenance, most repair companies offer same-day service as well as weekend and after-hours emergency calls. Usually, water heater repair professionals are experts in both electric and gas systems, as well as tank and tankless heaters, and can repair any kind of unit.

How much do new water heaters cost?

The cost of a new water heater depends largely on the type and size of the heater. The average national cost for a new water heater installation including a 40- to 50-gallon tank is $350-$780. Most homes don’t need larger tanks, but they are available — for a price. The average difference between a 50-gallon tank and a 75-gallon tank (the next most common size) ranges from $400 to $600. Hundred-gallon tanks are also available, and they can cost double or triple the price of a 50-gallon tank from the same manufacturer. New water heaters tend to be far more energy-efficient, so they can cut energy costs; homeowners may also be eligible for a new water heater rebate from their local utility company.

Typically, tankless water heaters, which heat water only when you need it, cost more but can save about 25 percent of annual water heating costs, on average. They also lose only 5 percent of their energy compared with a tank unit’s 30 percent energy loss. Note, too, that a water heater with a tank has a life expectancy of 10 years, while tankless units generally last about twice as long.

The final expense to consider is a possible disposal fee to get rid of the old water heater; some companies include it in the price, while others charge an average of $35-$150.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
