I live next to a big road, so my windows were very dirty. I called several window cleaning companies and compared prices. Keep it up gave the best quote so we had a deal. They are very flexible on schedule so they made it at the only day I was out of work. The work that they have done - is incredible. Great job guys

Glowa Window Cleaning cleaned 26 windows and screens in my 2-story townhouse. I am extremely pleased with the service and the sparkling windows and clean screens. They worked quickly and efficiently to complete the work. I have scheduled quarterly service appointments to ensure my windows and screens remain clean and sparkling. I highly recommend Glowa for window and screen cleaning.

Nice experience. First time having outside windows done by a company like this. There were a few that were smudgy with some soap suds marks, but in all honesty, I didn'y check them before he left so really my fault for not pointing them out. Over-all, would use them again.

I hired Kosterna Construction to do various drywall projects, including building the framing and insulating the walls. They also put in support beams where needed, built a sub floor for tile in the kitchen, installed an exterior door with frame, built frames/molding around windows, evened out a sloping floor/ ceiling. I was able to buy my own materials and paid them for the labor. They are very experienced in all new construction and remodeling. Very nice, reliable, easy to work with. I thought they did great work for a fair price and plan on hiring them for future projects! attached are some photos

Did a great job. I had three kids in the house and he was kind and patient. I don't remember how much it was, but they had very upfront pricing per # windows in a range inside and out, plus a certain amount for each storm window and each window track/sill.

Quality work. Gracie & Marek are easy to work with. We had a complete bathroom remodel done, demo down to the studs. Could not be happier with how it turned out. Also had new floor, window & door installed in a half bath. Everything done in 10 days .

We have a 1960 ranch house with single pane glass windows. Russ came and measured existing windows and suggested a much better design that's works better and looks great for our style style. Windows and been in three years and have reduced heating and AC costs. Installation crew do a nice job and clean up site after finishing. We had gotten 2 other bids and Russ's was lowest and we feel best quality. He is our Window Guy.

I have hired LiveClean several times for house cleaning and the crew is outstanding. They work efficiently and are very kind, courteous and professional. They get my mirrors cleaner than I ever could and are great at paying attention to detail. I live in a 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment and it usually takes them about 2 hours to clean. If they lack in any way, it is that there have been a few scheduling issues that hopefully are now straightened out.

Jose did an excellent job repairing and patching several areas in my home that had water damage. He was very meticulous and patient with resolving a "mysterious" leak in a bedroom window. He also installed a new vanity and painted the guest bathroom. I was very impressed with his wood working skills, dry wall repair and painting. The work was seamless; we will definitely use his services in the future.

All Weather Roofing was great to work with and I will call them again the next time I need roof work. They came in to add a gutter on a porch and address a few missing shingles. They proposed a few options for us, including a maintenance plan that guarantees the roof for 8 years. Their work came in at the estimated price and was done quickly. They also discovered some rotting underlayment that we weren't aware of, but would have been a big problem in winter, once snow accumulated on the roof. We could have had that part of the roof cave in, if they hadn't found it. They informed us of the problem area and provided an estimate range, since they didn't know the full extent until they pulled up all the shingles in that area. They were able to fit this additional work into their schedule right away. Nick and Peter kept us informed throughout the process as they determined the full extent of the rotting and the cost to fix it. In additional to their good communication, they were very polite and made sure to clean up the driveway and yard carefully, as they knew we had two dogs and didn't want them to step on any debris. They even found and picked up some pieces of glass from the previous owner.

They were very careful, neat, and pleasant. The workmanship is good and the cost is fair. Our windows are not typical with several small pieces of glass. They were able to deal with this.

Candelario was a pleasure to work with. I had been looking for someone to apply the glass tile backsplash in my kitchen and I'm very happy that he was the one to do the work. He is precise. He is clean (he cleaned each day before he left my house) and takes pride in the work he does. Each tile that needed to be cut was done perfectly. From the first day he started this job, he told me how long the job would take and how long he'd work on those days and that is exactly what he did. There were no surprises. I am so happy with the way my kitchen looks! I would absolutely refer Candelario for your next job!

Jerry is very nice guy, and he came to me twice to discuss the window project. His price is very reasonable, and he ordered high quality windows. The window installation process was very smooth, and passed the village inspection without any problems. I would use Jerry or Remodel Rangers again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is commercial window cleaning?

The national average cost to clean windows is $120-$170. Typically, window washing for commercial spaces costs less per window than residential window washing, but has a higher overall price because the greater number of windows. Commercial window cleaning companies may charge a standard rate per window — for example, $3 to clean the exterior only, with a higher rate of $4 or $5 to also clean the interior. There may be an additional charge, such as an extra $1 per window, for scrubbing off water stains or deep-cleaning window tracks. Double-hung windows require more labor and will therefore cost more to clean. Companies may charge a flat rate, such as $8 per double-hung window or $9 per French door, to account for the added work. Building height will play a factor in window washing costs. Standard cleaning for one- and two-story buildings will typically stay within the same range, but cleaning high-rise windows may entail special safety permits and equipment, which would increase costs. Your location will also affect window washing costs. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost to do business will have lower window cleaning rates than large cities.
