Fair price - I searched around and Eli and Mandi Garage Doors was the best price for a new (non-insulated) garage door and garage door opener installation. The new garage door was installed today (only took a couple of hours) - the old garage door and debris were hauled away - cleanup good - I will definitely recommend to others

Great job installing the garage door opener. Task was done very timely. Only opportunity was that he was not able to program our iPhones to use the opener.

They showed up on time and said I needed a new garage door opener because the current one is dangerous. They quoted me $550 for installation and parts. I has another Thumbtack company come and said the opener is fine and they just need to replace the lasers and new plastic wheels on the door. They charged me $170 and everything works wonderful now. I would be careful about hiring a company that wants to do way more than is needed.

Phil (Koehlinger Garage Door Inc.) was great to work with -- he responded the previous day almost immediately with a competitive quote, and arrived the next morning to install a new Liftmaster Garage Door opener (including new sensors, 2 remotes, outside keypad and inside button) at a very reasonable price. My springs and wheels needed to be replaced as well, and he replaced them at the same time, made sure everything was balanced and working properly, and was complete in approx. 1 hour. Very professional and very nice -- great work quality. Will definitely hire him again for anything I need with my garage door -- in the Spring I will definitely hire him again to replace my garage seal. Thank you Phil!

This is clearly a man who knows everything about garage doors and has installed thousands himself! He arrived promptly on time (even in short notice). Installed my garage door opener without a hitch. Asked me how I would like some things installed and offered his opinion on why he would do things a certain way. Very knowledgable, courteous and humble. I would highly recommend him to anyone with garage repair or installation needs.

Daniel and his partner were very professional, affordable and did quality work. Daniel took extra time to thoroughly explain everything with the garage door & tightened the spring so the garage door operated perfectly. Moreover, Daniel changed the rollers for a very low price which substantially cut down the noise with the door opening and closing. I would definitely recommend Daniel and his partner for anyone looking to install a garage door opener.

My single car garage door spring broke on day of the winter storm in Chicago, he not only responded to request but took time to come it to fix spring on the SAME day. Five star for being on time and be responsive. I will recommend him any day, as he did quality work.

Dennis and his team at AAA DoorTeks installed a Marantec Garage Door Opener at our home in Geneva, which we love!. Our old garage door opener was loud, banged shut and rattled house the when opening too. The new opener is sooooo quiet, like a "whisper" compared to our old "screaming" opener. Their Technicians were on-time and professional. A job well done and will definitely call them again for future needs.

Josh answered quickly and came the very same day to look at the repairs to be done. The next day everything was done and well done! I've been very pleased to work with Josh: fast, good worker and good price! And despite the very cold weather he stayed a bit longer to also fix and adjust our garage door. A crack! I'm not attaching picture because the painting is still pending (too cold to paint outside). Won't hesitate to call him again in the future when needed

Luis built a playroom above our garage starting from scratch. He completed the job in under 2 weeks and it looks absolutely amazing for a very reasonable price. There are many small touches Luis put into the build like adding tiny ridges to the shelves in addition to making it look like it was built as part of the original house. This included crown molding around the windows, door, and along the base. Luis also has a good eye for design and colors and he made multiple suggestions which we adopted without being pushy. We've also used Luis for multiple painting jobs and he and his crew are extremely quick, friendly, and do a very good job. Given the quality of the work, time frame, and value of services - we plan to use Luis again for our home improvement needs.

Innovative Garage Door is top notch both in terms of service and knowledge. I was impressed with Mike Stary and his ability to know all the particulars about garage doors. The one he installed for my son is SO quiet all because it is balanced and lubricated properly. Mike is also a very honest gentleman!

I had requested a quote to replace a garage access door and another minor quick repair. When he came to replace the door I asked about 3 more quick projects that could be done at a later time. He looked at what I wanted done. He said it would be easy to fix these additional 3 items the same day. He actually completed 6 projects the same day and came in under his original quote for just the garage access door. Kyle responds to my emails and texts usually within 24 hours, since the project wasn't urgent I was impressed with the speed he responds. I still have a list of projects that need to be completed and a major item that has been sitting for years to be taken care of. I have been looking for a new handyman for 2 years since my former handyman retired. I now have found my new handyman.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

How much does it cost to install a new garage door opener?

Your new garage door opener cost will vary based on the model you purchase and how long installation takes. Typically, installation pros charge by the hour, although if the pro is also selling the garage door opener they may have a flat fee for the product with installation. The national average for new garage door opener costs (with installation) is between $390 and $650, although the national average cost for the opener purchased alone may be in the $150-$300 range. The three most common types of openers are chain-drive, screw-drive and belt-drive. The chain-drive costs the least but makes the most noise. The belt-drive is typically the quietest and the most expensive. You can expect to pay about the same amount for installation for any of the three styles. The lifespan of a garage door opener is approximately 10 years, depending on quality. A pro may provide opener repairs for the cost of their service call fee or they may charge a flat fee, such as $100 for opener repair. Here are some examples of new garage door opener average costs, including installation:

  • Contractor-grade garage door opener with installation: $300.
  • Chain-drive opener with installation and one remote: $350.
  • Belt-drive opener with installation and two remotes: $400
  • Top-of-the-line opener with ¾-horsepower battery backup, belt drive and nearly soundless operation: $475
    • The majority of higher-end garage door openers are “smart” products and will connect via app to your smartphone for remote access.
