If you are looking for a committed tutor who will help you attain the perfect score, I can't think of a better tutor than Swadeep. Punctuality - 100/100.....never late for a class even at 5am in the morning. Follow up and availability....returned email and phone calls on questions within 12 hrs in spite of the time zone differences. Tutoring style...Swadeeps's tutoring style and methods were a refreshing change...he was personally committed to improving my GMAT score and it showed. he would observe my methods of solving problems and make his recommendations tailored to my needs. his approach is customized for every student. Skills learned from Swadeep..... 1. Speed :he has a 100 tricks up his sleeve to improve speed, 2. Method :his method to solving problems will eliminate silly mistakes, 3. Intuition for math : if you are testing for a perfect score, math needs to be an intuition and not just a set of equations, Swadeep's understanding and tutoring are intuitive. 4. Areas covered with Swadeep: Algebra, geometry, statistics, probability, set theory, mixtures, exponents, absolutes, functions, speed, work and rate problems, combinatorics. 5. Soft skills : he provided support and encouragement till the last day of the exam. 6. Optimization : learned to find the most optimal path to solving different types of problems. Amazement : during our tutoring sessions, i would sometimes, with no warning, send some really tough 800 level GMAT math questions his way to watch him solve it and he has always cracked them under 2 mins...never ceased to amaze me. every dollar spent with him is worth it. I would recommend him to anyone and in any stage of preparation - you will definitely learn something.

Working with Mr. Pucci helped me become a better analytic thinker. We had 10 sessions meeting just about every week, the location was fantastic for me, it was just off Roosevelt and was very central. I was impressed how quickly I began to understand multiple concepts of Algebra 2 and deriving expressions from word problems. What I liked most was that he taught me why a certain concept required the steps that it needed. He was able to break down the concepts into simple components and was very patient. Overall a fantastic tutor and I would without a doubt recommend him to anybody looking to improve their math skills.

My name is Rich. I live in Glen Ellyn. Laura Sosnowski has been tutoring my sophomore child for about a year. My child was struggling for months in Geometry, Honors Geometry and Algebra 2. We found Laura on Craigslist and she started to come and tutor my child and dramatic things began to happen. My struggling child's math grade miraculously began to improve quickly and today my child has excellent grades in math. Laura comes to our house, shows up on time and my child really enjoys her time with Laura. They sit together and spend an hour going over the math, and it's really been an amazing transformation with my child's grades. She actually enjoys math now and has an entirely new outlook and elevated level of confidence. All of this has taken place thanks to Laura's time with my child. If your child is struggling with Math, I highly recommend you call Laura and get ready to see an amazing transformation. Sincerely Rich Glen Ellyn

Reetika is fantastic! She worked with my daughter to make significant improvements on her Algebra 2 comprehension. With Reetika's patience and knowledge, my daughter's grade improved from a below average score to being top in her class. She was amazing in explaining and demonstrating the needed skills to bring a remarkable understanding to my daughter. I attribute my daughter's outstanding SAT score to the guidance and lessons received with the tutoring form Reetika. Can't say thank you enough to a very wonderful person !!!

My tutor Andrew was a great inspiration to me and externally helpful in all departments of English, Math, and Science. He was able to bump my previous 16 score on the English act section to a 22. That is an 8 point difference

I hired Lauren to help my 11 year old twins with math and English homework. She came to our home and worked with them both. Her first session was just yesterday. She impressed me in that she was incredibly patient and encouraging. She went above and beyond in that we had originally hired her for one hour but once she dug in with my son it became clear this was a longer project - she ended up staying at our house for 1 1/2 hours! After the first session, Lauren followed up with me. She provided a plan of action to get my children the help they need now and how to get them to where they can work more independently. It was wonderful. In my case, homework had become a tough, with my twins fighting over my time and questioning whether or not I really know how to do their math problems (I do, but not the way they are learning them!). Honestly, this is the best money I might ever spend. Now, homework is about a peaceful chance to work with a wonderful, qualified teacher rather than fight with mom about fractions!

Amadou has a great way of relating with children and providing them with techniques for math. He had my son learning for hours and increased his math and French grade to an A. Even my son teacher saw the growth in his math skills.

I´ve only been working with Cristobal for a short time due to my work schedule, but I´m very comfortable now with speaking and reading Spanish. I really like his approach to teaching the language and his passion for it. He also has group meet ups so that you can enjoy speaking with others on your proficiency level and continue gaining confidence in your speaking ability.

I came to Mathnasium during my junior year of High School to help study for a Pre-calc final. I met with Alon. The one-on-one tutoring was always helpful especially before exams. I continued coming in for the next year and a half 1-2 times roughly every week or every other week. When I went to College I would even come home before a final or during the summer to continue with lessons. Despite the fact that I was out of High School, Alon stuck with me all the way through Linear Algebra/Matrix Theory! It never mattered what I was learning, there is no problem too tough for Mathnasium to tackle. I was able to find help at any and all points in my math education.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

      • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
      • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
