Had Jason come out and quote insulated glass pane replacement on 4 windows (5 total panes) that had fogging issues. He arrived on time to our scheduled estimate, took some measurements and gave me a very affordable price for the windows and labor to install. We went forward and scheduled a date. There was an issue with one pane when Jason picked them up. Fortunately he inspected the products and found the issue. I was very happy he gave me an advanced notice so we could modify the installation time fram. I pushed the install date back a few days so he could install all 5 at the same time rather than make him come out twice (which he did offer to do). Jason arrived the day ready to work. He was very respectful of our home, taking his shoes off and being cautious as we have a 14 month old running around the home. The install was quick and painless. Jason left no messes and anything he had to remove was put back properly. I am extremely happy with the quality of workmanship as well as the product Jason provided. I will be passing his card along to my father in law who is in need of similar window repairs and would recommend Jason to anyone looking for an great solution to fixing fogged up windows. You will be happy with the level of service and the overall quality of the work. Thanks Jason.

I have hired LiveClean several times for house cleaning and the crew is outstanding. They work efficiently and are very kind, courteous and professional. They get my mirrors cleaner than I ever could and are great at paying attention to detail. I live in a 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment and it usually takes them about 2 hours to clean. If they lack in any way, it is that there have been a few scheduling issues that hopefully are now straightened out.

Russ is a very personable guy that wants your business, and wants you to be happy with your windows. Russ gave me a window demonstration at my home and was very receptive to our ideas and wants. We received a very fair price and the custom windows were done being made over a week ahead of schedule. The installer was very detailed and thorough. The windows are amazing! I am VERY happy with the job. Russ stopped by about a half hour after the install was complete to ensure I was happy and satisfied with the work. Can not wait to have the rest of my windows done by Russ and his crew!

We hired Martin Brown at McHenry Windows , Siding and Trim to install 19 double hung windows in our home. He quotes us a very fair price and we agreed to a contract. When we started the job, there was damage and dry rot in the walls that was not apparent in the original quote. Since we had ordered the windows, we were both committed to finish the job. Yes. It was more than we had agreed, but we discussed it at the outset and reached an agreement that was reasonable to both. Sometimes surprises happen and rather than try to find fault, or gain an advantage, Martin and I find a honest, just, resolution that we both could live with. He was excellent on communication, being there when he said. If it rained, he let me know he couldn't work and when he would be back. He had to hire an electrical subcontractor (another surprise) who was also excellent, competent and reasonable in cost. If he had to work on Saturday or Sunday he would be there. As for work quality, I would give him a 6 if I could. He did things well, is an excellent carpenter, and understands the difference between the minimum and doing the right thing. Finally, he cleaned the worksite every day after he was done, and if there was risk of rain, stabilized the site to prevent damage. I would recommend him without reservation

I hired HGR Construction Services, Joel Sevilla by the recommendation of my heating and air conditioning contractor. I hired him for an insurance claim for hail damage to my aluminum siding, he worked with the insurance adjuster for almost 2 months to get me the most that he could from the insurance company. They ended up paying for partial of the siding that was damaged but more than what they first offered because Joel brought to their attention many things they had missed. Instead of replacing the siding with aluminum again I upgraded to vinyl and paid the difference of the upgrade. I also had him install all 15 new windows that were well over due to be replaced. Joel is very easy to work with the crews that came to do the work were very professional and thorough. Any problems that arose were taken care of immediately and professionally. I plan on having HGR Construction Services, Joel Sevilla re-roof my house this coming spring. I would recommend Joel 100%.

We are very impressed and satisfied with the craftsmanship and quality of work from the gutter and siding crew. The owners Mike and Kathy were exceptional and professional and very easy to work with. Our project was a unique one as that the previous owner had sided the house with cement board and left all the windows and trim wood. When Mike came out the give us a quote and saw the arched front entry way he was the only contractor that said they could do it. And they did a fabulous job with it! We are so pleased with the completed house will be calling them back soon to come out and help us with our garage project. I highly recommend Classic Gutter Co. you will not be disappointed!

They were really responsive and helpful. I needed windows repaired and I was out of state. James was really helpful in getting the windows ordered and installed and then took care of replacing the drywall underneath and re-painting so my tenants didn't have to deal with an additional wait for someone else to come out and finish. Really appreciated the assistance.

Great experience! We had a problem with a window that was causing water to leak into our 4th floor condo. They were extremely responsive, had the right parts in stock, and came out the next day to do the job. There was some additional damage we weren’t aware of which they fixed to make sure we didn’t have similar problems in the future, it was very thorough and I feel great about the results. Highly recommended.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
