From the first call to get a quote to the last item moved and set up, Rogers moving was exceptional. Alex started me off with the quote and set up. Called me the morning of the move right after the dispatched team called to say they were on their way. Alex made sure things ran smoothly through out the move while my moving team did the heavy lifting. Darien, Dontrell and David were three of the best guys for the job. Very personable and hard working. They wrapped all of my furniture in pads and cling wrap and took extra care with all of our items. When we got to our new home, they even moved in the couch we bought and couldn't figure out how to get into the house and did it with no complaints. They were even faster than anticipated and lowered the price of my quote which was wonderful. They relieved a lot of stress for me and I can't thank them enough. I will always use and recommend Rogers Moving Services.

I was really worried about my move because I had large, heavy furniture that was being moved from a 3rd floor walkup to another 3rd floor walkup. The moving team was great, they showed up on time and worked tirelessly the whole time to get everything up and down as quickly and safely as possible. I was very impressed and would definitely hire them again. Thanks so much for doing a great job!

These guys were great for my move. Wasn't moving far, but needed help with some heavy lifting. They did not let the 80+ degree heat or 3 - floor walk up get in their way. Very effective use of time and great deal for the services offered. Would hire again!

They were absolutely great! Able to come same day; did everything that required heavy lifting; and even helped me reassemble my furniture as well as the cables in the back of my media cabinet. I will definitely use them again! Thank you for the great service!

Eddie from Dynamovers LLC is the best mover I ever used. He also showed up on time which is a real plus for a mover. He and his staff moved a heavy table up 26 stairs. We hired them to move the table but asked them to move some other items downstairs and they very graciously said they would. They also assembled the table. They are very courteous and respectful of your furnishings. I would highly recommend them. them. Jacqui P.

I had the BEST experience with them moving this past Saturday. They were on-time and FAST!! They were running with boxes, it was amazing! They had no problems or complaints lifting any of other heavy items and they kept track of what rooms they came out of, so they knew exactly where to put them in the new house without any marks or dings to anything. I was nervous too because I just had all the walls painted and they did not even slightly rub up against any walls. They were also very patient with me in trying to rearrange my sectional in the new house. Lastly, they came in under what they quoted for their estimate, which was WAY less than 'Two Men and a Truck, which came recommended to me earlier. I would recommend Alliance to EVERYONE!!!

The crew arrived right on time at 8am, they meticulously wrapped every piece of furniture and our belongings in moving pads, plastic wrap or paper. It was a very long day, but they successfully moved us from a 4BR split-level to a 4BR 2-story home about 30 miles away in one day. The guys lifting and placing the furniture were super impressive - they made it look so easy! Hopefully I'm NEVER moving again, but if I was, I would hire them.

Brian's work is amazing. His quote was 33% lower that any other contractor that I checked with. His work was great & he was on time as promised. He was even able to take time to help me with another project on the spot. I look forward to working with Brian again.

I reached out to Joey for a short-notice move as I was coming in from out of state. He said they had flexibility and he kept his word! I had a 16 foot truck filled with stuff from a one bedroom apartment and two guys moved it in 2 hours. My husband and I did help with some of it, but they did all the heavy lifting up three flights of stairs which was a life saver. Would definitely recommend using them!!! Worth every penny.

Jeffrey with his 2-member crew was amazing. They moved all our heavy furniture, and some was quite heavy, within 2.5 hours. They arrived on time and worked like a clock. One of our bed rails was damaged in the end, but taken all together, they performed quite well. I would definitely recommend Coffey Bros.

Can I start with saying I hate moving!! Coming from someone that has moved 8 times in the last 10 years--I have plenty of horror stories I could tell! With this most recent move, I needed someone to help me move from my apartment to my newly purchase condo (new homeowner alert!) :-). Home buying has been a totally stressful and really time consuming process and I just needed something to be easy! In steps Derrick! He was such a breath of fresh air! He helped with all the heavy lifting and was very patient with me (did I mention I was stressed? Lol), is a really hard worker who had ideas about how the move could go a bit easier for me. If anyone needs a stress free move--Derrick is your man!

I sent a request at 4:00 pm, I live in Texas and needed my rental apartment clean in Chicago for clients that were moving the next morning. I received a call within 5 minutes of the request. And she was able to go that same day at 7:00pm. I should mention that I hired a contractor to do what should have been a 2 day job that turned into a 5 day nightmare. The apartment was cleaned prior to his arrival but you could not tell it when you opened the door. Saw dust and sheetrock dust, was everywhere. I panicked and for the heck of it I turned to my friend Google, finder of all things. I cannot say enough about the responsiveness or the amazing job, I sent my sister a interior designer to check the work and pay for the woek. My sister has a little ADHD well a lot and she was blown away when she saw the place after it was cleaned. The apartment was completely cleaned and smelling wonderful. She was great, and the work was the best I have seen in years. I have people clean for me all over the US as a property manager and owner, and if I could I would move her to Texas...if you want it done right call JD Edwards cleaning services, and to top it off it was super affordable. A VERY HAPPY Customer Austin, Texas

These men did a fantastic job! They were very accommodating (I needed the truck to come early in the morning and make multiple stops) and they were the only people willing to do so! Moving from the suburbs to the city, they were able to lift all of our heavy objects, and move SO QUICKLY into the new Chicago apartment. We had a time crunch and they were able to work within it. I would highly recommend these 2 men for your next move. They are also very kind!

I hired two Bellhops for two hours to help me move out of my storage unit onto the moving truck. Having the extra hands helped to alleviate any stress of moving and they did all the heavy lifting. The entire process was expedited because of their assistance.

Lance saved me hours of frustration in assembling a television cabinet. He was prompt in showing up and courteous throughout. He pointed out a damaged portion of the cabinet and offered a screw when the piece was short on parts. Lance went above and beyond the call of duty by helping me move a heavy television set, assembling it and helping me to place it on the television stand. I could tell that he takes great pride in his work. I would highly recommend him for any carpentry job.

These guys were amazing! On moving day, Blue, the crew leader, arrived and cheerfully introduced the four men who would be doing the move. He also announced his intention to beat the estimate I was given. After a quick but thorough review of everything they’d be moving, they got right to work. They were all extremely careful with my furniture, using shrink-wrap and pads to protect it. There were lots of oddly shaped pieces and different sized boxes, but they packed each item into the truck like Tetris champions. As the day progressed, the men checked in with me often to make sure I was happy with the way the move was going - which I was. I’m not sure how, but they all seemed to be enjoying the challenge of moving heavy furniture and boxes and doing it efficiently. They would stack boxes I couldn’t even push across the floor, lift the stack, and walk down the stairs without hesitation. When they arrived at the new house, about 45 minutes away, they kept up the same level of energy until everything was reassembled and placed exactly where I wanted it. It was a difficult day for me, but Blue, José, Danny, Alex, and Louis acted like caring friends who were happy to help. One other thing - I forgot that I had hidden an envelope with emergency cash on top of my armoire. I was nowhere around when it fell off, but Jose found me and gave it to me, with all the money inside. I would recommend Best Cost to anyone looking for a positive moving experience. And, yes, they beat Eric’s estimate.

I was worried for my furniture because they were all quite old and heavy. But the movers from United relocation group took great care of them while moving them. The movers really paid attention to the old pieces and packed them so delicately. They made sure they stacked everything properly inside the van so nothing damages during the journey. They made the delivery right on time. The movers unpacked everything and put them where they belonged. I didn’t see the men complaining even for once. I admire these amazingly strong movers who made this move possible.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
