Fred was outstanding! He was on time, did a wonderful job. We had a new roof put on two years ago and our house is very old. I asked him if he found anything I should be aware of that was in need of repair. He said no that who ever did our roof did an excellent job. I liked that he complimented someone else's good work. Honest and kind came up in a lot of the reviews I read and that is so true. I will recommend him to all my friends and neighbors. Thank you Fred!!

I was satisfied working with Lone Star Roofing. Their quality of work was great and they completed the project on time. Towards the end of the project they told me I could I make a few aesthetic add ons (a third coat of sealant) if I wanted to and they would only charge me cost of material. I elected not to, but I did appreciate the offer and communication. It didn't effect my invoice or my warranty which was nice. I would recommend them to a friend.

This was my first time using thumbtack to hire a professional for a roofing job. Out of 5 companies who responded, only 1 company, Extreme Storm Solutions, followed up and stayed with us throughout the job. The owner, Ali, came out and inspected the roof right away and walked us through the process, making everything extremely easy. After the insurance approval, we had a new, rather large roof, installed by his team in one day. The roof looks beautiful and Ali was available and in contact with us throughout the job. I would not hesitate to recommend EES to friends and family.

When I first met Steve he was very pleasant and tremendously nice. After being burn once before by a roofing company I was very leary about giving hm a deposit. But I had to step out on faith and I am so glad I did. Not only did he repair the mishaps from the previous company took before and after pictures to show me, the price I was quoted was within my range and there was no hidden fees or additions fees I should say. I will refer Steve to everyone I know and will hire him again for future jobs. Thanks so much for sending me his information.

All Weather Roofing came out quickly. They really know what there doing. I've had other roofing companies come out ... And to be honest, to me they did not explain anything to me! I had Pete from All Weather Roofing come out, inspect the roof and Pete wrote me out a free estimate on a new flat roof. Pete gave me a few options and was really easy going and new exactly how to handle my roof and my budget. I highly recommend All WeatherRoofing. Sincerely Sara S.

After a storm and some damage to our roof, we needed an estimate to be completed as soon possible. A. L. Shembarger Roofing was able to come out quickly and provide us with information on a quality product followed by an estimate. He then worked professionally with our insurance company in order to ensure we received the maximum coverage amount possible. The roofing crew that came to our house was extremely hard working and our decently sized roof was completed in a day and a half. Neighbors have commented on our roof and have even asked who did it as they like how it looks.

Professional. Clean. Punctual. I had a leak in the ceiling on a property I was supposed to hand over the following day. J Roberts came through in a big way. Patched the ceiling and painted it. Within a few hours, it looked as though there was never a leak to begin with. I also had plumbing issue for which I hired a plumber. After the plumber left, I realized the drain they were working on had another leak (which the plumber saw but didn't think it was his problem to fix). J Roberts fixed it. He even went to the hardware store and grabbed a new drain for the kitchen sink and out it in. Highly recommended and would definitely hire again

Recently, I had Design Developers & Rehub INC remodel my kitchen and two of my bathrooms, and change the flooring throughout the house and I couldn't have asked for a better experience with a company. The price that he came up with was very good compared to other prices, and I didn’t have to scale back the work I wanted either. Overall, he was very honest and fair. The quality of the work greatly exceeded my expectations. I recommend Design Developers & Rehub INC to everyone, as the process was smooth and painless.

This is a very good company to contact for an estimate and consultation. Willie Henderson and Katie were always in contact with me to answer my questions and assure my needs were met. The estimate was a little high due to it being a small job and the job was in South Bend, but we also needed it done quickly. They did a quality job and I would recommend them, especially if you live in the Michigan City area.

I own several properties NKB has helped me with claims for couple of them . On the first one the insurance denied the claim and they worked for the approval almost six months , they made them pay .The insurance replaced the Roof , Gutters , Siding and Drywall . I was very happy that when a storm blew the roof of on other of my properties I called them right away . Approved by insurance immediately . These guys are professionals ,they know how to deal with the insurance companies and the installers to get the job done right!!!

I want to thank J&B West Roofing for such an amazing job! After a lot of research, I went with this company because of their reviews, history, professionalism, and their Better Business Bureau standing. They weren't the cheapest, but they weren't the most expensive either. They offered a fair price for their work, along with the ability to purchase the Owens Corning extended warranty. After signing the contract, it was going to be a bit till the work was completed. And after the storms we had this past weekend (July 2018), I found a spot in a bedroom that was showing water damage on the ceiling. I contacted Chris Pumroy, my job manager and simply asked for suggestion on what to do to avoid any further damage before they were going to be able to get out here to Goshen. His response was see you Thursday. I was like, ok, cool.. first aid it till it can be done and all will be well then. He's like no... I'm doing your roof 100%! It's getting done. I was beyond myself and so thankful! He didn't have to move me up the schedule, but did! Then today, the job day. I cannot be any more happier. These guys came, tore off my old roof, made the fixes needed to my decking, laid on my new roof which looks amazing, cleaned up and no signs they were even here, in THREE HOURS! I have a small ranch house, but still... This is an awesome company, a great crew led by Matt here, and Chris as their supervisor. Elkhart County needs to know more about these people! Thank you so much!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
