About

I provide the very best music and guitar instruction in the Washington, DC, area. You don't have to take my word for it, though. See my reviews here and on my website. I teach all styles of guitar lessons such as rock, jazz, blues, folk, country, and beginning classical. In addition, you have access to guided rehearsals (Jam Class) in order to develop your skills playing in a group. I emphasize creativity and improvisation, so that you can learn to jam on your favorite tunes with others. Unlike many other teachers, I have studied and continued to study with some of the best music educators (W.A. Mathieu, Mick Goodrick, John McNeil, Larry Snitzler) so that I can bring the best from the conservatory to "just plain folks."

About

AGS (Ashburn Guitar Studio) offers quality instruction in the classical guitar: My students are usually referred by Loudoun County Public Schools' middle and high school guitar teachers and they receive four to five, 30-minute private classical guitar lessons each month for $30 per lesson. The classical technique requires students to play with nails (no plectrum) on a nylon-string guitar. The standard repertoire includes the music of notable composers such as Sor, Aguado, Carulli, Carcassi, Giuliani etc. Quarterly studio recitals are held that feature AGS students and local professionals.

About

Whether you are a total beginner hoping to learn your first chords or an experienced player trying to develop some new guitar skills, my lesson program is both enjoyable and effective. For beginner students, we'll spend the first half of each lesson developing fundamental skills on the guitar, including using a pick, strumming, learning new chords, and playing melodies. For the second half of the lesson, we'll learn a particular song or musical piece that you are interested in, applying the fundamentals we developed in the first half. You will be learning new skills and then immediately applying them to the music you like. It is important to me to keep the environment fun and creative while also maintaining an effective learning experience. For more advanced students, I can teach you the ins and outs of a particular musical idiom of your choosing. We can also work to develop more advanced techniques on the guitar, by exploring scale patterns, chord voicing, alternate tunings, and advanced rhythmic skills.
