About

I have over 15 years of experience as a career coach and counselor in both the federal and private sectors and enjoy helping clients find their strengths, passions and a better fit for more meaningful work. I can help clients with all phases of career transition, whether it is exploring career goals and strategy, job search techniques, such as resume development, interviewing and networking skills, or retirement. If a person is unclear of what direction to take, career and/or personality assessments may help. I am certified in both the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and DISC behavioral assessments. My counseling philosophy and approach is to meet the client where they are and help them to see their own strengths in order to better solve whatever issue(s) they may be experiencing at the time. I enjoy seeing the light bulb go off for someone when they figure it out for themselves. I bring a sense of humor and lightheartedness to the therapeutic process when appropriate for clients to be able to see the lighter side of their circumstances. It is such a joy and honor to be able to partner and support clients in making the changes in their lives they desire.

About

I am a licensed professional counselor specializing in working with individuals and families that want to enrich their relationships, experience more joy, connection, and intimacy; and heal old wounds that block their ability to live fully in the present. As a parent coach, I help biological and adoptive parents create the family environment where children and parents can thrive. I coach parents on mindful parenting, positive discipline, meditation, and securing positive attachment. I offer individual and ongoing classes on these topics and others for parents, teachers and caregivers. My unique approach to counseling and therapy with adults, includes relationship work that facilitates healing of old wounds that resurface in adulthood and practical real-life skills to enhance your daily life. When working with children, I use a model that includes the family to facilitate behavioral and emotional changes, and enrich the childhood and family experience.

About

I have always enjoyed working with children, teenagers and adults. While I was at Old Dominion University, I worked in the financial aid office for four years. There, I received my degree in counseling with a minor in psychology. Part of my program required me to teach a counseling class. I enjoyed it immensely. I began working with troubled teenagers when I worked at The Pines, a residential treatment center located in Portsmouth, Virginia. In that RTC, I worked primarily with teenage males. I taught these teenagers about their diagnoses and about potential coping skills. There, I was promoted twice. My last promotion was to the position of assistant director. When I moved up to Northern Virginia, I worked at Graydon Manor in Leesburg. There I worked with teenage females, teaching them about themselves and their diagnoses. I also worked at Global Health Nurse Training Services. There, I was an adjunct professor of psychology. I taught general psychology and developmental psychology to nursing students. I also worked in the student services department where I was an academic advisor as well as a mental health counselor. I was just recently employed at Youth For Tomorrow where I worked as a residential counselor in a group home for teenage females. Although most of my job centers on a mental health component, there is also a teaching aspect. I supplied the girls with knowledge of their specific problems and issues. I also worked with them to come up with strategies for dealing with these problems, and I taught them social skills and life skills. It takes a special kind of person to work with young people. Actually, it takes a special kind of person to work in a teaching capacity with any age. The difference between me and other counselors/teachers is that I genuinely enjoy working with people of any age. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Julie R. Blevins
