Our washing machine is not draining properly in the spin cycle, and I put in a request for quote on a Friday afternoon. Hached gave me a quote over the weekend and came out on Monday morning. After spending some time to test various parts, he determined that the faulty part would be half the price of a new machine, so he advised that we simply replace the machine. We so appreciated his speedy response and honest feedback on the problem. He's very courteous and professional throughout the process, and very clearly communicated the diagnosis and suggested solutions. If you want timely, courteous, and professional service for appliance repair, Hached is your man!

Erick and his team are exceptional. I contracted Erick initially to do some minor house repairs. However, after not being satisfied with the work of contractor hired to paint, I asked Erick to do a lot more work to include painting, installation of kitchen appliance, replace flooring, miscellaneous carpentry, and electrical work. Erick was so responsive to my need to get the work done quickly as getting ready to list house. Quality of work is good, Erick knows his trade and made suggestions and recommendations that proved to be invaluable. His team are hard workers and take pride in what they do. And, the pricing is exceptional. Definitely recommend and will use again in the future.

I had the world's biggest junk pile in my basement, everything from loose nails and screws to huge pieces of lumber and old appliances. Gennaro gave me the best price of all the people I considered, but more importantly, he was the very nicest to deal with. He was right on time, worked steadily, and cleaned up when he was finished. I would use him again and I would recommend him highly. Great work. An excellent man to know!

NBF Painting does wonderful work! In the last year we've turned to NBF to paint a variety of different rooms in our home including the kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom, and mudroom. Each time Nico paid great attention to detail, sanding rough spots, and making the rooms look perfect. I couldn't be more pleased! We've also turned to NBF Painting for small home carpentry projects including replacing a wood panel on our front door and damaged drywall. This past spring Nico helped us power wash and stain our deck. I highly recommend NBF Painting! Nico is a conscientious worker and does a beautiful job.

Ernesto Cruz (his company is Salvation, LLC ) installed a dryer vent and washer for me in my finished basement where there was no existing plumbing. I was very happy that to install the dryer vent he did not cut a hole in my basement drywall ceiling where as I has couple estimate previously and both had told me they had to cut the drywall ceiling at least in 2 places! He did a nice job to install new plumbing for the washer. At the end he hooked up washer/dryer and made sure work properly. He always showed up on time, very organized, and completed the job within the timeframe promised. He is polite and got the job done at a reasonable price. I would recommend him to any friend or family member looking for a good plumber. I will contact him for any future plumbing need at my house. Thank you Ernesto!

We just bought a new house, and had two minor problems, a slow draining bathtub, and bad filling valves and flapper valve in a toilet. Julian responded immediately to my Thumbtack project, and suggested a time to stop by the next day (Sunday, wow!). He worked quickly & efficiently, solved both problems and charged a fair price in line with his Thumbtack quote. Those alone would probably merit a 5-star review. But even more impressive were the little things that he did. 1) He brought shoe covers to wear in the house to protect our floors from his work boots (awesome idea... many handymen could take this advice!) 2) He let me peek over his shoulder and watch him work while he explained what he was doing and how I could duplicate it for small projects (like toilet repair) in the future - I was interested in learning a bit more about DIY plumbing. 3) He offered advice and instructions for other minor plumbing projects I wanted to tackle as DIY. 4) At my request, he did a 5-minute walk-through of other plumbing systems in the house to assess their state, and suggested a few very reasonable/logical things I might want to address as the new home-owner (e.g. some pipe-freezing risks in my old house crawl-space, etc.) A great experience overall. I'll definitely be calling Julian again if the need arises.

My husband and I needed a few rooms in our new home painted last minute after we were overwhelmed trying to tackle the project ourselves. We were able to schedule an appointment on a Saturday after a walk through the day before. The crew showed up on time and the rooms look fantastic-all at a great price. We will definitely use them again for any other painting project that comes up!

Luis was a pleasure to work with. He fixed our refrigerator for a very fair price. He had to come back the following day as he did not have the part on hand, and did not increase the quote even though it turned into a two day job. He even gave me a warranty in the event any issues were to re-arise. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Jorge went the extra mile. We hired him to install our double oven, which he did in an excellent manner. When he was finished he noticed that the dishwasher that was installed the day before by the guys who delivered it was not properly installed. He fixed it without hesitation. Had he not fixed it, we could have had serious problems that would have cost us a lot of money. I would hire Jorge in a heartbeat for my next appliance installation needs and highly recommend him to others.

I’m so glad I found this local business to do our instillation. After calling multiple other businesses and getting terrible customer service (no shows/not returning phone calls), I messaged this company and got an immediate response offering availability and pricing. Nick was great, working with my schedule, even after I had a last minute appointment pop up, he assured me not to worry. As discussed he showed up, accommodating my schedule. My husband actually met him at our home and he wore shoe covers in my house which was so nice that I didn’t have to be there to make sure this happened. I’ve had other home services where they enter your home and do not have shoe covers. He worked quickly in the rooms we were having work done, making sure to cover up our furniture with plastic and protect our hard wood floors from the bottom of his ladder. Once the work was completed, he picked up every little piece of plastic and debris. Being a mother of a small child and one on the way, I can’t tell you how happy I am with his professionalism, attention to detail, being courteous with protecting our home and making sure there were no small pieces left out. I have had other places come in my home not have shoe covers, leave messes, not cover up areas that may get dirty or debris and not pick up every piece of trash. It is beyond frustrating when you have small children that crawl on the floor, put foreign objects in their mouth and you don’t want to have to clean up a mess that was made by a service performed in your home. Aside from all that I’m very happy with the actual installation and I would highly recommend using this company.

Gary and his team worked tirelessly to ensure that our move went smoothly. All of our belongings made it to GA from VA without any issues. When we discovered that we needed more things to go into storage, he made a second trip even though they were officially finished moving us. I have recommended GNG to my friends in the DMV who may need for his services. My family is very pleased.

I hired Antonio (Tony) Sanchez from Renaissance Restoration to complete a kitchen renovation this past fall (sorry I did not get around to completing this review sooner!). I did all the demolition, but the job included lights and electrical, plumbing repair, cabinet and counter top install, appliance install, and painting. Tony gave a very reasonable estimate and personally worked on my project with his assistant from start to finish as opposed to having one of his employees complete the job. As he began the job, he soon realized that virtually nothing from the original construction was square (townhouse was built in 1987). However, that did not phase him as he had the skills to adjust making those imperfections unnoticeable in the end. In addition, Tony has skills in most of the trades which meant that he did not have to sub different parts of the job out; he did all the electrical, plumbing and carpentry himself. The best part of my experience working with Tony was that he discussed and explained different options or ways of completing a task to ensure there were no surprises, and I was impressed with his willingness to even teach me a little along the way. He was flexible in allowing me to have a friend install the tile floor and was understanding of my need to stick to a rather tight budget. There are only two comments I could make for overall improvement: cleanliness and timeliness. On a couple of occasions, I had to discard empty food containers and drinks that had been left behind. I attributed this to oversight and could be easily improved by making an effort to clean up the work site after each day of work. Considering it was not a space I was using though, it was not that big of a deal. As for timeliness, the project took longer than expected to complete. However, I know that my involvement did have some impact on the schedule and the fact he was doing the work himself while still managing other jobs is a factor. I would not hesitate to bring Tony in for another project in the future. I am completely satisfied with his work and would recommend him to anyone.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
