I met with Robert for an initial consultation, and then I was paired with Garid as my trainer. Garid is great! He comes to my home twice a week. Each excercise session is different from the last, challenging, and motivating. Garid adjusts my program as needed to accommodate previous knee and shoulder injuries. He pushes me beyond what I knew I was capable of in a friendly but firm manner. He is encouraging and knowledgeable. I feel stronger already, and I am truly excited about this fitness journey. I've been out of shape for quite some time... I wanted to get in shape, but always felt insecure walking into gyms. Decided to try out a personal trainer and came across Svetness Fitness and Nutrition. I've only been training for a month and already feel so much better about my well being! Emmanuel is THE MAN! I was always an active person and played basketball 3-4 times a week. A couple years ago I had surgery to fix a herniated disc which was pinching a nerve. I took a break from playing active sports because I lost the confidence to be physical in a game. To say the least, I was VERY hesitant trying out a new trainer since I have lower back pain from a Herniated disc. I decided to try a session with Emmanuel. We have been working out ever since. After only a couple months, I feel stronger, more confident, able to pick up my kids and do daily physical activities without any pain or discomfort. I just completed a 10mile 6 hr long tough mudder! If this is not a reference for Emmanuel, I don't know what is. He is talented, knowledgable, and always changes up his routines in training which keeps me interested and motivated to continue pushing myself to become stronger than I have ever been. I highly recommend Emmanuel!
I can’t say enough good things about Julian! We definitely hit the jackpot with him and in a very short time, he’s become a great trainer, mentor and role model for my 15 year old son who has wanted to increase his strength/stamina while working on his soccer skills. Julian very quickly responded to my search for a personal trainer and was incredibly professional during our introductory call. It was evident that his knowledge of /experience with soccer as a player and coach would be a good match for my son. He also shared his philosophy about strength training with kids, specifically how he seeks to understand what motivates and is important to them, so he could then weave in his expertise which ultimately would result in a truly customized program to help accomplish their goals. He was eager to “meet” my son and scheduled some time to speak with him personally over the phone and get to know him. I was impressed at how he was able to get from a 15-year old boy, what his fitness goals were! In less than a week of my initial inquiry, my son was training in the gym with Julian and has absolutely loved every session with him. Julian maximizes every second during each workout and even encourages kids to come in early to get warmed up (so really, while you pay for a 60-minute session, you get 70-75 minutes!) My son has already noticed physical changes, but beyond that, his sense of confidence, focus, and dedication has increased tremendously. Julian provides encouragement inside and outside the gym by keeping tabs on my son and checking in on how he’s doing. Even when my son tried out for another soccer team, Julian gave him sound advice throughout the process, acted as a sounding board, and alleviated any anxiety he had. The investment you make in Julian goes far beyond strength training; you also get someone who takes a genuine interest in your well-being and wants you to be successful. I have had an incredible experience with Worktime Fitness. I used to feel awkward about the way my shoulders were slightly slumped and my posture didn’t help. I wanted to portray confidence but I couldn’t wait it had my shoulders shaped the way they were. Due to timing and school I had a hard time getting motivated to go to the gym. I have been working with worktime fitness and over the course of 6 sessions I have seen such an improvement, not just in my shoulders. Ive been a member of Tyson Training for several years now. I joined after having my second child and after a few months Joe was able to get me back to my pre baby weight through healthy diet and effective exercises. I learned a great deal about proper form and technique. Tyson Training once again helped me achieve my goals after having my third child. This is the best shape I have probably been in. Tyson Training is all about wellness... both physical and mental. Their approach is unique and sophisticated. They challenge your mental limits by encouraging you to push your physical limits. Damien and I have trained together for over 3 years. At our first meeting he told me that his goal was to get me to a point where I no longer needed his services. That told me that he was not only interested in helping me to reach my fitness goals, but he also wanted to share his knowledge about health and fitness and that it wasn’t all about money for him. Over the years and through my personal challenges, Damien has taught me a lot about fitness and healthy eating. Toms Dedication to my success I leg press 700 pounds (not a typo) now, lift a little more than half my body weight in pull-ups and dips, and bench press roughly 35 pounds on average. In order to understand what a true accomplishment this is you must first understand the obstacles I was forced to overcome and how Tom helped me through it all. I was in a major car accident in 2011. The vehicle hit mine head on. My car battery was moved from the front left to the back center. The steel plate my chair rested on broke in half and dropped. The vehicle stopped just shy of the dashboard and firewall. I was unable to work for 3 months. For those 3 months my life consisted of nothing but doctors appointments, medicine, and slow physical therapy. The doctors told me I was lucky I wasnt paralyzed. They said because I worked out prior to my accident (roughly 5-7 hours a week for 3 months) my muscles were able to absorb the impact but now theyre stuck and would need to be drugged to unclench and then I would have to relearn how to use each and every muscle in my body. I took a total of 3 months of physical therapy and followed every instruction they gave me determined to get better. They said I could now function well enough to get by in life and I was released. What this meant was I could now walk for a few minutes without help or getting winded. I could stand for roughly 5 minutes before feeling total exhaustion. My doctor told me I would be on pain medication for the rest of my life. The doctors even offered to paralyze nerve endings so I wouldnt feel the pain. I was greatly discouraged but unable to accept a lifetime of drugs and pain. I went to a local gym that hired full-time personal trainers. I met with the manager on staff and after explaining my story he gave me a look that said we cant help her, but well leave that to the trainer. He told me they only had 1 trainer on staff with the kind of qualifications I needed who MIGHT be able to help me. I met Tom. Tom sat me down for a consultation asking me my limitations and goals. As I explained each and every medical condition, I became very discouraged. For the first time, I thought there was no hope for me. He took thorough notes and said Okay, give me a few days to come up with an exercise plan. I could see his mind working and I was afraid he would turn me away even after his encouragement. I met with Tom for the first training session. He learned very quickly my muscle strength was so limited I had trouble lifting my arms or legs let alone any added weight or resistance. I was determined not to let him down or show any weakness by saying I cant. Tom would watch every move and watch my face and he would stop me while doing exercises because he could see my pain and he would relentlessly ask what hurt. When I would tell him, instead of getting discouraged he would simply tell me Okay, I know another way to exercise that muscle without straining these muscles. He would then lead me through another exercise and carefully watch to make sure I didnt hurt myself. After the first month of working out with Tom, I slept a full nights sleep without pain in my neck. These are the same muscles with nerve endings the doctors wanted to paralyze. After 6 months of training I was stronger than where I started in some areas before the accident. After a year, I had full range and I was able to use some form of resistance or weights on all muscle groups. I have continued to hire Tom each year and while the gym we work out as has changed in addition to my workout goals, the workouts are still just as challenging and ever changing. I have gone from complete discouragement and a sense of despair to hopeful and excited to workout. The highlights in my week are my workouts because I know that each goal is within reach and Tom is the perfect expert trainer to help me meet each and every goal I set for myself. We are both still amazed at how far I have come from where I started. To this day I have not seen or heard of a trainer to be his equal. Tom changes the workout routines consistently. He focuses on your goals and not on what he thinks your goals should be. He is a trainer who utilizes every piece of equipment and environment for physical growth (parks, outdoor/ indoor, machines, free weights, and all forms of cardio equipment). My personal favorites are the heavy bag, leg press, and bench press. Tom challenges me and he is the ONLY TRAINER I will ever work with. I thank God for Tom and greatly appreciate all he has done for me. While he pushed me to succeed physically he also helped restore my faith in myself. Tom taught me its not a competition between my physical abilities and others but rather its a personal challenge to grow spiritually and physically. ~Tricia

Having Jenn as a trainer is amazing. As a mom of 5 my time and space can be limited and she has designed a work out for me that is a perfect fit! I can include the kids and never have an excuse as to why I couldn't get it done! She is so supportive and if your body isn't cooperating she understands and keeps you motivated! I would and do recommend her to everyone!
Yusef really knows his stuff when it comes to health and fitness. He provided helpful handouts that explain a lot of the science behind exercise and diet. He was understanding of my busy schedule and made good suggestions to maximize results in short workout time periods. He is professional and responsive. I would definitely recommend him to friends.
My two little ones and I are taking a Mommy and Me Boot camp class with Valerie at the Community Center in Laurel. From day one, she welcomed us all (even a wailing baby!) and showed me ways to incorporate both my two year old and five month old into my workout so that it was actually doable and fun. Each workout has been different and tailored to the needs of the group. (She checks in with us frequently and makes modifications if a task is too easy, too hard, or a child in the group needs mommy!). I appreciate Valerie's friendly encouragement- I feel supported and actually enjoy our sessions. (How often can you say that about a workout?!) I only wish more people knew about her classes!

There a lots of personal trainers around and many of them are great. Not many of them have been over 300 pounds or in poor health, so they don't understand the constant war zone that is going on in our heads and bodies.
I'm not one to write reviews, but because I'm passionate about working out, fitness and nutrition, I feel I should let others out there know what a great place Activate is for all of the above. I have been a member since it's inception and truly believe that it is different than any other facility or big box gym I've ever been a member of. At Activate you are not just another number or member but a person with individual needs. You are heard and encouraged to succeed whether it be from the staff (who are phenomenal by the way) or from other members who are also there to succeed. As a person who has struggled with my weight from my teens into adulthood, it has always been super-depressing to go from fitness center to fitness center and not achieve success. Even if I did achieve success, it was barely measurable, not to mention that I never learned anything about what is necessary to get results - appropriate nutrition and the kind of workouts needed for targeting fat loss. Like so many others, I was on the treadmill and elliptical wasting my time. Activate is the only place I have ever found true success with real, lasting weight loss and nutrition. The staff genuinely cares and encourages you to dig deep to get to the goals you set upon yourself. You will not only learn the best and most efficient way to lose weight, you learn what it takes to keep it off.
