We hired Great Nation to move us locally. We had an estimator come to our home to do a walk through. When the proposal was sent it gave us a good idea where we were price wise. We had some additional packing last minute and were charged accordingly. Rose gave us a discount on the additional packing services and followed through on everything. The guys were excellent that moved us and extremely careful with everything. Since our home was new they took extreme care with our floors by protecting with pads. Thank you to everyone.

Baku Moving was easily accessible during entire process via email or phone. They did a great job moving our belongings within a very short notice. I contacted them and asked for a price. Their manager thoroughly explained how the moving would go and gave me the estimate based on the information I gave. It was very reasonable. The movers were on time and got to work quickly. The movers were great at the packing service- all the boxes were marked and easily found upon arrival. Everything arrived in the same condition as it left. I had a really stress-free move with these guys.

Many things were left in the drawers and were not packed. My advice is to listen to the customer next time because you stated you will have everything done and you did not. Time was not an issue, as you decided not to come on a whole day and do everything in the last min. By far, this is the worst packing service I ever had. I was planning to give extra tip but with the service I received they do not deserve it. Not to mention the company did not bring enough boxes, which they stated they will have ready for this move.

I hired Anthony to help move my household items into two PODS containers. Anthony showed up early and ready to work. I appreciated Anthony's focus and advice on packing the containers and recommend him for moving help. Thanks!

After hearing horror stories about local hourly rate movers I was a bit reluctant to hire this company. Thank goodness I got over my fears. They were on time, productive, and fast for my 3 part move; this review will cover the first two parts and I will follow up with my final move. As David stated in his introduction he is available literally 24/7. Everytime I had a question or concern he responded within minutes. That's a HUGE plus in my book. I used his team to prepack my house to include the use of his supplies. The quotes I was given was exactly what I paid. Thank goodness for the use of his wardrobe boxes; other companies charge a ridiculous amount and want the boxes return. Anyway the packers were fast, on time, and treated my items like they were their own; extremely careful. Day of the move to storage was just the same; phenomenal service. Same worker from the packing service showed up with two other guys. They did a good job and made good use of their time. My only complaint would be that I underestimated just how much stuff I had, lol. I highly recommend them; prices are unmatched.

They were very responsive when setting up the move, and they arrived on time and worked quickly. Both movers were excellent. They handled the items with care, were clear and upfront about any extra fees for packing supplies, and they were very helpful setting up the furniture at the destination.

We hired SkyRide Moving and Storage to move the furniture of a small condo, for a move that we were coordinating. They were competitively priced vs. the others we contacted. All in all it was a successful move, but it almost unraveled when the morning of the move one of their trucks wouldn't start. We called to ask for an ETA and was told by Fred, the owner, that the crew couldn't get the truck started and that their arrival would be delayed until 1:30. As this delay wouldn't work for us, Fred rented a UHaul and arrived at 11:00 with a helper and conducted the move themselves. He waived his moving fee because of the delay, but we opted to reimburse him for the truck rental and tipped both him and his helper, since they went above and beyond to make sure we had a successful move. They were professional in their interactions and treated the items with care, packing the truck well. I will call SkyRide again for a small local move.

Over a year later I'm finally writing this review. I used this service for a local move and was satisfied with the result. I basically requested a full service move including some packing services, and was very happy with the result. In retrospect, I should have skipped the lazy millennial thing and done more packing myself, because these guys do a meticulous job and it takes long time (and the cost increased a little as a result, but totally within the parameters of the deal we made). The PM was very friendly to deal with, the price was fair, and I would consider using this company again.

Overall good experience. The lady Renu was responsive and she came onsite to make sure things were fine. My only complaint, I didn't think it was fair rounding off to nearest hour. It took 4hr15min for packing and I was charged for 5hrs. Other than that, the experience was fine and they did what was agreed for.

Very professional and willing to make scheduling changes if requested. Love that they offered packing supplies and even called to confirm request. Ended up having to cancel but they were very understanding. Would definitely recommend based on the level of professionalism exhibited when I spoke with them.

The movers were on time (early even). They were very careful with all my items. Did a great job packing everything into a storage facility for short term. The move took longer than hoped but that is mostly due to the length of the building which I was moving out of. There was a lot of walking from my unit to the elevator and then from the elevator to the loading dock. Movers were very patient with all of this and did a great job. When I find a new place I will use HaulPROZ to move from storage to the new house.

I am SO impressed by the recent packing services I received from Cliff and Rob. I was frantically looking for someone to help me pack for an upcoming move, and Cliff made the process so easy. They were easy to schedule with, punctual, flexible, efficient, and friendly. They did such a good job and made packing for a move, somehow an enjoyable experience. I have moved several times in the last few years and have yet to come across such an easy and efficient process. Sounds like they offer basically any service you can think of (packing, moving, hanging, etc) so if you need anything - I recommend these guys!!!!

Daniel and his two comrads were excellent workers in moving to and from 2Bed/2Bath apartments from Herndon to Fairfax. They gave complimentary service in packing dress shirts, and pants; they covered/wrapped all furniture and TV's to protect my possessions. These guys were honest, trustworthy, and a pleasure to work with. I would hire them to move my mother if needed..

Initially, they came one hour late, with calls to advise in advance. I have to call at the owner, twice, until i got answer. The crew were responsible packing the staff and delivery. They offer 3 hours plus 2 men, but it took 4 hours, for one bedroom area.

I put my request out on Saturday morning...they were at my door Saturday afternoon. They were punctual, efficient, friendly, and prepared. They were fully committed to providing me with a great customer service experience....and they did. They moved furniture from one location to another. They went with me to IKEA to pick up several furniture items and moved those too. They let me know that if I needed some assistance with putting together the items from IKEA, that I could have a quote for that scope of work as well. The quote was more than reasonable. They worked as a team to make sure not only that the job was done...but that I was another satisfied customer. I am another satisfied customer !!! They also took with them all packing materials so that I had NOTHING to clean up .... take a chance on PROAH MOVERS...you can be the next satisfied customer :-)

We recently moved into our house and, unfortunately, had a bad experience with the packing and moving company. Consequently, we had many boxes that were mislabeled, placed on the wrong floor of the house, or just simply packed in a haphazard manner. This is where Jamie and her terrific team of organizers came in. I had never worked with organizing professionals before, and did not anticipate that this could be a life-changing experience. Over the course of two days, Jamie and her team worked tirelessly to ensure that everything had a "home" (or a plan for a home). The level of moving stress declined precipitously as Jamie and her team helped us to figure out systems that we could build on going forward. The entire team was professional and caring. Overall, this was a great investment in bringing "calm" to our settling in process.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.
