Steve installed a new faucet in my kitchen along with a new soap dispenser and new sink strainer and garbage disposal flange. He did an excellent job working hard throughout the job, but if one thing went slightly wrong it was that during the process of securing the job, he asked me to send him a message with my address, scope of job and contact info. By "text", he meant a message to his cell phone. I thought all communication went through the Thumbtack app. Anyway, in the beginning, I had asked for a bid to install a new faucet, soap dispenser water lines and shut off valves. Steve had bid on that job. I was providing everything except the shutoff valves. Later, I went to Lowes to pick up the materials needed. While there, the Lowes associate asked if I wanted matching sink strainer and garbage disposal flange. I said that I did. When Steve later asked for the text mentioned above, I clearly stated that the job included the installation of a garbage disposal flange and sink strainer. Steve indicated had he seen that, his price would have been more. It seemed like the installation of the latter two items were the worst part of the job and made Steve very "frustrated". The more frustrated he became, the more difficult the job was. I went in and try to assist and together we got it done. Having known it was not in the original scope and knowing Steve was out on the job when I made the change, I added some money to what I had agreed to pay know I too, was partially to blame for the mishap.

We had a major remodel done by Rescue 1. We had the wall removed between the kitchen and living room. They replaced the ceiling, walls, flooring, cabinets, plumbing, and electrical. While they were doing the demo, they discovered we had a bad carpenter ant infestation. If they wouldn’t have been doing such a thorough job, I hate to think of how long it would have taken us to discover the damage. If you are looking for quality work, I would recommend them to anyone planning a major remodel project. They will not cut corners nor use sub-standard materials. They made my dream kitchen a reality.

Eddy and his crew were very courteous and kind. Eddy's customer service is 5 star. We had birch wood flooring installed in our living room, kitchen, laundry room and hallway at his suggestion and I thank him for that! He started on a sat and told us he would be done the following Friday which he was. However, one mistake was made in which one of our floor registers got covered up by the flooring. I noticed this after payment was given and was nervous that Eddy and his crew would not come fix the problem in a timely manner. I was wrong. He came out at a time that worked for us and fixed the issue the same day in no time. It was unfortunate that the register got covered over and wasn't noticed by his crew but it got resolved quickly once I brought it to his attention. Also, after the floor was installed I had noticed my walls had small black markings and a couple of gouges around the perimeter of the rooms. It was from the nail gun as it was being used. I also pointed this to Eddy and he fixed it right away. Again, unfortunate that his crew did not bring this to my attention as it happen. If I had not been thou row in my inspection of the rooms after the work was done, I would have never know about the issues. A couple of other observations I will make about Eddy and his crew are that he needs to work on timeliness. A few times the crew showed up 30 or so minutes late and another time it was an hour late after the agreed time had been scheduled. Eddy did call and give a heads up but was still frustrating. One thing on choosing the stain....we were not able to choose a stain color until the floors were completely laid down. He did a color sample right there on the floor. We had 4 to choose from. I took the liberty to research colors prior to us picking a color of his) and fortunately he had the one I wanted. But he did not have much feedback when it came to stain color prior to the job being finished. Now with all that said....let me refer to my first comments again. Eddy and his crew did a great job on my floors! They look amazing! I trust him and his crew in my house and around my family. He is a family man himself. My advise (even if you don't hire Eddy) is to do your homework on what you want. Ask lots of questions. There is no stupid question. Eddy will answer them all. I would call him on the phone or speak with him in person though. At times the email correspondences we hard to read due to our language barrier but nothing you couldn't handle. Would I recommend Eddy? Yes. Great value, great work even if there were a few minor bumps in the road. Eddy is your man!

Ron and Katie surpassed my expectations; they were on-time, professional, efficient (finished the project in half the time), and I trusted them in my house and with my dogs. The project itself looks great. They painted 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and my hallway. I was so pleased with Ron's work ethic and product, we're now in talks for new flooring/doors and trim. Highly recommend!

A carpenter from Supreme Contracting replaced the crown molding on the exterior of my house. This is an architectural detail on an old home and I had trouble finding someone to do this. I spoke with Mark on the phone and he sent someone that day to take a look at it and we made an agreement that same day. On the scheduled day, his carpenter came out and had the job done before I got home from work. It was done very well and looks wonderful. I would absolutely hire this company again for future jobs!

We hired TMC Contracting to paint our 68-year-old kitchen cabinets. The entire process from getting an estimate to clean up was exceptional. Tim listened to our concerns and made sure we were very satisfied with his work. We would recommend TMC Contracting to anyone who wants a quality project completed by someone who's very professional. We plan to have Tim do other projects in our home. It's apparent that Tim enjoys what he does and strives to help make your vision a reality. Thank you, Tim!

Lucus and his install team arrived when they said they would, did an outstanding 3/4 oak installation on our kitchen & family room floors, came back and applied 2 coats of polyurathane and left me some stain for my 1/4 rounds! Price & quality were top notch, we plan on using them again on several projects.

They put in a tile back splash in my kitchen, redid the kitchen floor in tile, replaced carpet with laminate flooring (even the stairs!), and replaced bathroom linoleum with tile. Also, repaired damage to walls and baseboards, replaced front door and garage entry door. The quality of work is outstanding! Very nice guys to work with. Very responsive and amenable to my wishes. The tile work is perfection! I love my new kitchen look and bathroom floors. Craftsmanship is excellent. I would recommend Quality Home Renewal LLC to my friends and family anytime!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
