Music Elements is fantastic. My son has been taking drum lessons there for 2 months. They have taken his love of drums and built on it. He now feels successful in how he is playing and is learning new things every week. His instructor is wonderful and made an effort to learn my son's strengths and weaknesses. This makes for very satisfying lessons. They go at the pace my son sets so he does not feel like it is tedious but fun. Music Elements was recommended to me by a friend and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to learn more and enjoy music.
I am a new student of Dor Herskovits. My experience so far has been excellent. He has gone out of his way to try to accommodate my schedule, and meet me after work. He is very knowledgable and eager to share his knowledge. His lessons consist of theory, technique, rudiments and also getting down and playing the drums! The lesson is very well balanced. I am a Music teacher myself in the NYC public school system, so I am pretty good at recognizing someone will talent, who knows his stuff, and is a good teacher. Dor has it all and really seems to care! I highly recommend Dor Herskovits.
Justin is intelligent, organized, responsible, and accountable. He works well with our child when providing drum lessons. He reviews orchestra homework from the school and incorporates that into his lesson. His lessons are thorough and our child has learned a large amount of content in the months he has worked with Justin. He is professional and answers calls and emails promptly. He is personable and kind when interacting with our child and our entire family. He is a talented drummer and we have been pleased with his work and highly recommend him. (Our child is in 5th Grade and attends Newton Public Schools)

I took drum lessons at JD's studio for 4 years while I was in high school. JD taught me the fundamentals I still use when playing in groups of all styles (Jazz, Rock, Classical). After studying with JD, I went on to study music in college, teach music in the public schools and work for Boston Ballet. www.gordonhwilliams.com
Rick is a drum instructor, and I've been taking weekly, hour-long lessons with him for 6 months. After trying out a few instructors in Boston who had no methodology, no go-to books, no handouts, and generally no system or materials for teaching, I found Rick via much googling. Rick is a Berklee trained, practicing musician & drum instructor. His facilities are great: a treated room with 2 side-by-side kits, 2 practice pads, metronomes, etc. Rick has an endless supply of ideas, handouts, and also, a great book (that he authored) that's kept me busy for longer than any other books I've worked with (this is a good thing). He teaches in local schools, as well as private lessons, and I'm glad to have found an instructor that's thinking about drumming & instruction at the professional level he's engaged in. I enjoy Rick on a personal level (I'm near him in age), but would consider him a good role model for kids, showing patience & flexibility in his approach, as well as espousing a strong work ethic.

My son loves taking drum lessons with Shawn! He's enthusiastic, committed, talented, reliable and lots of fun. My son has made tremendous progress under Shawn's guidance.
My son has taken drum lessons from Brian for several years now and really enjoys their weekly sessions. In addition to excellent technical teaching, my son enjoys Brian's sense of humor and that they work on a variety of music types. Brian is always accommodating about scheduling conflicts for which I have been grateful. All-in-all, Brian is a wonderful music instructor and a pleasure to work with.
I've only had a few lessons so far,but they've been great. He does an excellent job creating lessons to fit my interests and it's been fun, while challenging enough to push me and keep me practicing! He knows his stuff and it seems like he'd be able to design a class to suit any interest.
I've been taking drum lessons with Dave for about a year now. I gave him five stars because he's just an all around great teacher. He's always going the extra mile to make sure I fully understand each lesson, and that I know exactly what I need to do for homework. He's also very patient. When I first started I was super anxious to make mistakes which made it more difficult for me to grasp any understanding of how to play. He never makes me feel like I'm dumb or that I can't keep up. He is always challenging me to be better and that's what's made me better as a drummer and musician in general. Overall, I recommend Dave because he is a great person to learn from. Each lesson is enjoyable and fun which creates the perfect learning environment.
Oscar Suchanek is a great musician and an inspiring, thoughtful teacher. He is an active performer who expresses the joy of music in both his live gigs and private lessons. I highly recommend him to anyone interested in furthering their music studies on all levels. Marty Ballou (freelance bassist)
I've been taking guitar lessons from Billy for over 3 years and I have learned so much. He makes the lessons easy and fun.

In 2007, multi-instrumentalist Dan Fox founded the Morningside Music Studio in Arlington's Morningside neighborhood. His vision was to have a laid back and supportive environment he and his wife, Jennifer Elowsky-Fox could teach private lessons and jazz ensembles. It has proved a good idea as groups and lesson times have started to fill with musicians of all levels eager to play and improve. Morningside offers weekly ongoing jazz ensembles. You can join one anytime and continue as long as you like. Work on improvisation techniques as well as building a repertoire of tunes. Topics include playing modal jazz, blues, standards, scales for improvisation, how to build a solo, phrasing, pacing, dynamics, and a lot more. Instruments accepted are piano, bass, guitar, drums, vocalists, and horn players. Players should either have some knowledge of harmony or be somewhat new to jazz but have some proficiency on their instruments. The idea will be to group people together who are at similar levels. Steinway grand piano, amps, and drums are available. Each group will be limited to four players. Morningside groups play concerts every few months. Previous venues include The Lily Pad, Ryles Jazz Club, The Chit Chat Lounge, Somerville Cable Access TV, and various coffeehouses. Fee is $25/class. No obligation to continue after first class if you choose not to. All groups are taught by Dan Fox. Schedule: Please contact us for the current schedule of evening and weekend daytime groups. Combos at all levels from beginning to advance are currently being offered. "The Morningside Music student ensemble is the ideal introduction into (or exploration of) the jazz world for the beginner/intermediate level player. In the short time since I've started, not only have I built substantially on my repertoire, but learned useful concepts for soloing and accompaniment. Under competent direction (and with a little hard work) you'll be amazed how you grow as a musician in leaps and bounds- two thumbs up!" Ethan Kaczowka - guitarist, 23 yrs. old
