Mark is a wonderful photographer - I am very camera-shy and am prone to taking cheesy pictures, but he helped make the process comfortable, natural and fun. Pictures turned out great - couldn't be happier! Would absolutely recommend to anyone. Thanks, Mark!

To preface, I have significant experience in graphic design, photo editing and DSLR photography. Where does one such as my self go to get my photos taken? Ivan Djikaev. I don't find my impressed with the quality, composition and quality of photos that a lot of "professional" photographers these days tend to produce, but as a hobbyist photographer myself and someone who prides himself on his eye for detail, I can say with certainty that Ivan is on another level. The man is not only very talented, but accommodating and flexible. His quality of work speaks for itself, the end product is worth every penny, and I look forward to working with him again in the future!

I cannot say enough about my experience with Jeanne. She was everything you want and need in a professional photographer. From day one she was prompt and courteous with our correspondence. She was very patient with me and dealt with my flakiness, re-sending me documents and time changes. When the day came she was on time and immediately started photographing. She was so fun and pleasant and down to earth. I had my mother and friend and other wedding professionals with me. She was so nice, fit right in like an old friend. She helped hold drinks guests during photo arranging. She held my train at times and anything else we needed. I need to mention that it was 1000398666 degrees that day and we were all so hot. Like, in a gross way. It was out of this world. She didn't miss a beat and moved right along. Took us all over the property. Very engaged. I would recommend her over and over again. Someone you can absolutely trust on your special day. Hire her!

Very few event photographers in my experience have manages to be everywhere yet unobtrusive. Many of the guests commented to me on his professionalism and his pleasant demeanor. Do hire Frank. You won't be disappointed.

Out of the couple of dozen bids I received on Thumbtack, Mansour's portfolio really stood out, and at a competitive price. He was my first choice by far, and I don't regret making that choice one bit. Working with Mansour was a pleasure, and I'm very happy with the result. He made me feel comfortable, got me talking about this and that, and before I knew it he'd taken a ton of great shots that captured several different dimensions of my personality—exactly what I was looking for. After looking at snapshots of me and chatting about what I was looking for from the session, he even "down-sold" me from his more expensive 2-hour shoot package with hair and make-up artist. And sure enough, we got what we needed out of the 1-hour social media package. You don't see that kind of service often; I think most photographers would have just taken the money. As a result, I know who I'll be returning to next time I'm looking for headshots. I couldn't recommend him more highly.

I'm an actress and have worked with many different photographers & cinematographers for almost 10 years. Jeremiah was kind enough to take some head shots for my acting resume. He was very receptive to my ideas and was willing to stand/sit in awkward positions to get the shot he wanted. He has a wonderful eye for capturing the personality of whom he is photographing. Jeremiah made me laugh during the photo shoot and was very timely in providing the edited pictures back to me. Jeremiah really is looking for his client's best interests and that's what makes him run a smooth photography business.

We discovered just two days before our event that we would have enough money to hire someone to tape some of the sessions. It was a real scramble, but Mike made it all happen, despite not getting much guidance from the organizers who were completely absorbed with the logistics of the event. Ours was an unconference with some outstanding speakers. Our goal was to have videos for each 30 minute presentation that were very watchable, and Mike really came through, shooting with three cameras, editing in the slides, and putting it together in a very nice package that we were able to post and share with others. Mike was easy to work with throughout, understood our tight budget, delivered a high-quality product that we're proud to show off. Highly recommended.

Igor was fantastic! We hired him to do family pictures which included 2 young children under the age of 4. He arrived on time (drove 2 hrs each way to get to us!). He was patient with our kids who weren't excited to be taking pictures. He made great recommendations on background and people placement. He would have done more but our kids were done after 1.5 hrs. We have used more expensive photographers, and Igor's work is on par with theirs. Our pictures are beautiful and we appreciate his work! Highly recommend!

My company and I have had the pleasure of working with David on two events. Both times he exceeded our expectations; this, based off of our experience with previous photographers. David's level of professionalism is reflected through his presence when shooting an event, and in the final product. With this in mind, David Bruno is a fantastic event photographer. He delivers magazine-ready images, that in our case, wind up making it to print. And, ultimately, he has helped us create a portfolio of beautiful, head-on + candid images, that showcase everything our company is made of. For this, we are infinitely grateful.

Dennise is an amazing photographer. This was the first time we were taking professional pictures with our dogs so we were a little nervous of what to expect with them, but Dennise managed it awesome. Dennise even brought them a toy that kept them attentive during the photo shoot and gave it to our dogs as a gift after! So nice. She found amazing spots to take our family pictures, and after we saw the final photos, we loved every single one of them. Definitely recommend her.

I had a great experience with An. She delivered my professional headshot in a very tight time frame and the results were great, at a reasonable price. She made the photoshoot session go by very smoothly and gave me great tips to look better on each photo. She was also very responsive and patient with my feedback and questions. I would definitely work again with her.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
