About

I was given a gift certificate for voice lessons with Robin three years ago and i haven't left yet! It has been such fun learning and working with the entire studio and has rekindled my love of music. I know my abilities and techniques has improved. Robin's style is firm with a purpose. She wants all of her students to succeed and figures out what works best for each individual whether it is voice, piano or both. Her teaching goal is for her students to be well rounded. She gives a solid foundation to build on, tools that can be learned and applied not only to music but to life, and not to just skills to make music but to be able to perform for an audience.

About

I offer voice lessons for beginner students professionally. My interests lie with opera, lieder, the American songbook, and new classical compositions. I really enjoy helping students prepare for recitals and concerts, auditions, coaching recording sessions, and supporting beginners from the basics of correct breathing to the complexity of developing a full role. I have worked with beginner students working on their graduate school auditions, and professionals who were having vocal issues and were losing notes. I am also a working singer, and I feel that I have the necessary experience and empathy to help and encourage singers of all kinds to meet the goals they have set for themselves.

About

Kaila J. Frymire is a versatile musician who enjoys performing classical, jazz, and musical theatre repertoire. She regularly performs with the Boston Symphony Orchestra as a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus under the direction of John Oliver, and has appeared in performance at Carnegie Hall with James Taylor, Sting, and Steve Martin. She has appeared in productions by New England Cabaret Theatre, Community Music Center of Boston, Boston Metro Opera, Boston Opera Collaborative, MIT's Gilbert & Sullivan Players (Boston), Theatre de la Jeune Lune (Minneapolis), Illusion Theatre (Minneapolis), and the Gilbert & Sullivan Very Light Opera Company of Minnesota. Additionally, Kaila has performed scenes from The Marriage of Figaro (Susanna), Don Giovanni (Zerlina), Carmen (Micaela & Frasquita), and The Tender Land (Laurie). Kaila has always been passionate about new ventures, collaboration, and taking risks in performance. In 2003, Kaila co-founded Second Act Theatre, credited by local Southwest Journal as the only student-run musical theatre company in Minneapolis. She directed music rehearsals and co-directed a cast of 40 in the company's first production of the Broadway classic Bye, Bye Birdie. Within the same year she co-directed and starred in a production with the newly formed Mayflower Players of Minneapolis. In 2006 she took on another fresh venture, co-directing Songs for a New World by Jason Robert Brown at Augsburg College in Minneapolis with the organization Augsburg Music and Theatre. She also founded and directed the a cappella singing group Augsburg A Cappella. She is especially influenced by the work of H. Wesley Balk and his methods for developing the complete singer-actor. In 2007, Kaila participated in a six-week music performance workshop in Vienna, Austria where she had the opportunity to study classical repertoire with renowned soprano Donna Robin. She has participated in Nautilus Music-Theater's Wesley Balk Opera/Music-Theater Institute in Minneapolis, Cambridge Summer Opera, and several workshops with Tony Award-winning Theatre de la Jeune Lune in Minneapolis. Kaila is an experienced teacher of voice and piano, has directed three full-length musical theatre productions, and is Artistic Director of Minted Music-Theatre. About

I believe that music instruction should be enjoyable, built on a solid technical foundation, inspire creativity, and match each individual's goals. Learning an instrument, like the piano for instance, has many proven benefits. Playing music both assists in children's development and enriches the lives of adults. My proven teaching methods enable you to play the music you love from the very beginning, instead of working out of boring, outdated method books. Traditional music education develops knowledge and skill in the student by running through method books of songs that are of little or no interest to you. I don't like to take that approach. I strive to make lessons fun, helping to overcome the risk that you or your child will become disinterested before learning the basic skills of the instrument. For people who have already developed these skills, an instructor who is not trained professionally in music theory and ear training cannot get you to the next level.
