I booked the project with OSA just one week before I moved in my new condo. There are plenty of jobs needed to be done, like install all appliances, replace old vanity, replace all old valves, replace new toilet, install new lights, put floor tile and wall tile in my bathroom, and so on. Thankfully, OSA finished all projects before the day I moved in with high work quality, I really appreciate it. Also, they are very trustful, I gave my home key to them so they can come any time to do the work. I would definitely recommend OSA to all my friends who needs to do electricity, plumb job for their house or condo.

Manny and his crew are professional, reliable, courteous , honest etc. I can’t say enough kind things about Dubon Flooring. Manny was the 3rd company I hired to refinish the same floor. The first two contractors PNP flooring and Pro R both from Thumbtack did a horrific job and Manny was hired to correct their work. Third times a charm. The floors look as good as they can with what he had to work with. The finish is impeccable! I only wish we hired Dubon Flooring to start instead of paying three contractors for the same end result. Moral of my story, HIRE DUBON FLOORING if you want the job done correctly the first time and his prices are actually extremely competitive. STAY FAR AWAY FROM PRO R FLOORING and PNP FLOORING from Melrose MA. I personally would never hire another floor Contractor except for Dubon Flooring , thank you so much for all your hard work Manny.

We had LAN's Floor Care install hardwood flooring in our kitchen and family room after they removed carpet and tile in same area. We are very happy with the results and with overall service we received. The floors look beautiful and Lan was very professional. We had him give us a quote months in advance as we were away all winter but he kept his word and saved a time for us. We would recommend Lan to any of our friends and would certainly use him again in the future! Nancy and Jack Mac

Stephen's quality of work and expertise was exquisite. He's goal was to provide us the best granite steps and took extra time to do it right, versus "getting in and out". I would highly recommend he and his company for any masonry work.

John laid wood floors for us, did demo and install of our new tile in our kitchen and bath, replaced our vanity and toilet and put up our new breezeway door. John was always prompt and friendly. He is a great guy and worker. He was willing to help my husband move furniture. His installation cost was much lower than Home Depot's install estimate and he was our best or matched estimate here. We are grateful for John's work. We occasionally had a difference of opinion on style or color, and John's work days vary in length. Sometimes we felt like we wished he had stayed longer to get more accomplished, but the work he was doing was hard labor so we understand the physical aspect of this job for one man. He did leave us with a few loose ends, that we will finish ourselves. Overall good experience and we are glad that we hired John.

I contacted Mike to sand, polish, finish the hardwood flooring on the main level of my home and he met with me within a few days and gave me a quote. He was extremely busy yet he said he could do the work within my preferred time-frame. Forward 12 hours when my husband and I decided we wanted the upstairs done as well (we are moving into a new, to us, home). Mike was more than accommodating and met my husband at or after 6:00 pm to give him a quote for the additionally requested work. Our floors look spectacular. The home is only 13 years old, but the obvious wear on high-traffic areas is completely non-existant. Upon my final walk-through with Mike, I found our family room to be still wet, and he said that when he arrived, it wasn't as satisfactory as he would have wanted his own home, so he re-did the entire room. It looks beautiful. I recommend this company without reservation and will be contacting them to assist me and my family with our kitchen renovation in the next year or two.

Hi, My name is Peter Velazquez. I recently had a flooring project done by Andy and Diamond Flooring team and I am writing a review based on the experience I had with them. First, I would like to say how much I love the look of the new floors. I came out even better than I would ever imagine. Second, Andy was very responsive to my texts and emails to help me prepare for what was coming and also very patient throughout the process. Last, I had to say his price was very competitive compared to other quotes I received from other flooring companies. He also committed to his estimate even though there was a small change of plan at the end and he was totally flexible. I will recommend Andy and his team to anyone that I know. Thank you, Andy!!! Great person and a job well done. Wilson was honest with the work that needed to be done when he could've convinced me to make it a bigger project than it needed to be. He was respectful of my home. His work was completed timely and the new bamboo flooring looks great. Thanks.

Such a wonderful company, there are no words to even describe the performances and results produced by this flooring company. What a team!!! Destiny does an outstanding job with public relations, she is attentive and extremely informative through out the whole process. She treated us with courtesy and respects, always patience and caring. Andy (her husband) and his workers are such hard workers; Andy over sees the whole project diligently, making sure all T's are crossed and I's are dotted. Destiny and Andy are definitely a team player. I was not only impressed how Destiny operated the business, but the quality results were more than I expected. They completed our housing projects in a timely manner and worked with our every minutes changing plans. I am so glad our company came across Destiny and Andy, our floors are in good hands under their supervision.

I hired Felipe to build closets in two bedrooms and patch/refinish the pine flooring on the second floor of my house. I got several quotes and chose FW Home Improvement because the quote was very reasonable and they were available to start right away. Felipe and his partner were very courteous and professional. Felipe responded to my emails and texts promptly. They worked extremely hard every day and got the work done right on schedule including a couple of extra little jobs I added. There were a few small details that were left undone, but overall I found their work a very good value for the price. I plan to use Felipe for some additional work that I have planned for my house.

Gerry is awesome awesome awesome- professional, friendly, punctual, trustworthy, personable, reasonable, hard working, attentive to the client, and plain good person. He helped me paint my new place ( 3000 sq feet)...came out to see the property, gave a reasonable quote in a timely manner, met with me prior to the start of project, accommodated the paint brand and kinds I preferred, always with a smile, and met his deadline early. He left the place spotless and walked the property with me at the end to make sure I was content. Let’s put it this way- I’m not the kind of person who writes reviews, but I felt that his hard and quality work deserves recognition... sincerely, the whole process was so seamless that it puts a smile on my face. I’d hire him again in a heartbeat.

We liked everything about the job Kings Flooring did on the two rooms they refinished. It started with a timely quote which was quite fair and excellent phone contact before and during the job. We knew exactly what they were going to do each day and what time they would be showing up. There was a bit of extra work that needed to be done but they did that as part of the estimated coast. They answered questions, helped move furniture, and were always polite and professional. BTW, the work they did was excellent. Our floors look like they did 40 years ago when we moved in our house.

DF Floors is very professional. My floors look great, brand new, actually! They were in poor shape do to water damage, etc, but DF buffed it all out; incredible! Duilas (DF), is incredibly patient and is open to ideas and the home owner's thought and opinions. If you have a question or concern, just ask! For the homeowner, I would suggest reading up on hardwood floor repairs, refinishing on your own so you are knowledgeable about what can and cannot be done. I've experienced that a trade professional appreciates when the homeowner understands the limitations of the project, etc. DF Floors. I highly recommend Duilas and DF Floors for your hardwood floor needs, you will be VERY happy!

Working with Greg was an ease from the start. My husband and I decided last minute to take on a deck renovation. Greg came and measured our existing deck structure and walked me through his recommendations including types of composite materials currently on the market. He was prompt to respond, gave a detailed quote with options within our budget and delivered in the agreed timeframe. He even found a way to save us a few extra dollars on materials by making a change in the flooring pattern. Not only was it a savings he passed onto us, but also has a more finished look. Greg and his team were very professional and I highly recommend choosing GTC if you are looking to build or upgrade an existing deck! A big thank you to the team.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
