My experience with SG Tree and Stump grinding could not be more positive. Below are the reasons why I would highly recommend them to do any Tree, Shrub or Stump removal. 1. Sean is a veteran and is currently employed as a firefighter. All things being equal, and I'm not really sure anyone equals his service, I think his sacrifice for our country puts him a cut above everyone else. 2. Sean gave me a quote for my job after I sent him a picture of what I wanted to remove. The job included one dead tree and several massive, spindly, jungle like shrubs. Sean was at my house within a week and was there exactly when he said he would be. The job was finished that day. 3. He did a fantastic job. He did the job completely and diligently. He also took great care so that he didn't disturb any gas lines running to our home. 4. Finally, and in a lot of ways most importantly, from jump Sean gave me a fantastic deal. Although he initially underestimated the size and time consuming nature of the job, Sean stuck to the quote he gave me, which I believe is a perfect example of his character. Know this: should you hire Sean at SG he will do an incredible job and he will give you a fair price. **if you think the above post was contrived or fake, it wasn't. I'm a lawyer. I can't help but write this way.

Our project was to remove a handful of trees and trim others. Alfredo was very responsive. He kept his appointments and was reasonable with his quote. He showed up right on time on the day of the job. We asked him to remove a couple of other shrubs and trees and he took care of those also. There was some confusion about whether the stumps needed to ground but after a brief discussion he agreed to come back for it. He sent someone early the following Saturday to take care of that as promised. We had a great experience with AA tree and Shrubs and will look to work with them again.

Anibal did a very good job cleaning up our yard, pruning ( a lot!) our overgrown trees and shrubs, helping me to choose a suitable small tree for our back yard and then going right out to purchase it! He planted the tree, mowed the lawn, edged the borders, fertilized some of my trees and hauled away one truck full of debris before returning to do more work, all in less than six hours! He arrived a bit earlier than the 7:00 a.m. start time and was still working when I had to leave for an appointment. He and his assistant took one short break as far as I know but otherwise worked thoroughly and steadily the whole time. He was polite, confident, worked independently and offered helpful suggestions and advice when I asked him questions. I am very happy with his work and highly recommend him.

I️ cannot say enough about Chris and his work. The tree that was supposed to be removed fell on the street and on my truck during the wind storm . I️ called him to see if he could move us up and he immediately did. He came over and even cut the tree limps on the street. He then came within a couple of days and took down the entire tree. Chris was a life saver. Especially since we had no power. He was very professional, prompt and did a fantastic job. I️ highly recommend him and will use him.

We just had a yard clean-up done after having not attended to the yard since the fall. Solutions did an excellent job -- mowing, trimming trees, removing branches that had fallen due to storms, and cleaning up our driveway. Ronnie was very responsive and the work was done the day after I met with him. We are very pleased with the outcome and will hire him again.

Arbor CPR was great. Hired them to removed 2 huge holly bushes (trees?) They came within a couple days of me reaching out. Notified me that he was running an hr late but I didn’t mind. Ended up charging us less than the original estimate even though we added something for him to do. He said removal was easier than he anticipated! Now, that is an honorable person. He didn’t have to tell us that and charged what he quoted plus more for the extra we asked for! And he also moved and cut some branches we have in a pile in our yard from the last storm...just to be nice. I definitely recommend Arbor CPR!

There's a big pine tree (over 50ft high) in our yard damaged in last snow storm, we wanted to have it removed ASAP. It's not an easy task not only because of the height of the tree, but also because it's right near the power line and a main road. We had several quotes on thumbtack, Mr. Christopher Workman explained to us that they will climb up the tree and cut it down piece by piece from the top, which is the best way of removing this tree with minimum impact on nearby trees and power line. Their price is reasonable too. Mr. Christopher Workman and his colleague arrived in early morning on last Sunday, it took them less than an hour to cut the whole tree down. They then cut the trunk into pieces, which will be picked up and chipped by Mr. Christopher Workman in next week. I highly recommend Mr. Christopher Workman, he does it right.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
