I am very pleased with the work done by Gutter Masters of New England at my home. From the moment of the initial estimate being prepared and explained to me, Jay answered any and all of my questions and when I explained certain issues I had with the way water came down the valley of my roof during heavy rain, he was able to address how he would redirect the water flow. Prior to starting the job, he contacted me periodically to let me know where he was in his work schedule so that I was constantly aware of a possible start date for my house. Weather obviously impacts this kind of a work schedule; but, Jay was able to predict quite accurately when he would be able to start the job. He arrived on time to start the job; very focused and intent on making it look right. At its completion, Jay made certain that everything was picked up and no debris was left in the yard at all. The new gutters, down spouts and guards look wonderful and give my home a complete look. I would highly recommend this small business to any of my friends and colleagues.

We had a fantastic experience and were very happpy that we decided to go with Weathertite Roofing. They powerwashed our roof, cleared the gutters and secured them for winter. The price was competitive and they even came a day early because of the weather. Would definitely recommend!

Right from our first contact I could tell Mario was well versed in his craft. Very responsive and not just on thumbtack but in all aspects from the quote to his diagnosis and all through out the project. He completely stripped and replaced all flaws wood and installed brand new roof for a 10x10 section that the previous contractors ignored which resulted in water damage and ants. Mario is a total pro and even his cleanup was flawless. Can't recommend him enough and would never hesitate to give his contact out to a friend.

I hired Todd to clean my gutters and roof, he upsold me Leaf Relief gutter guards to prevent gutter clogs (my gutters were filled with weeds). Todd was very responsive to messages, he came out to give me a quote quickly and when I told him I needed time before hiring him for the job he was very polite and understanding. When I was ready for Todd to begin work he was able to start the job within days. I did not feel not pressured, and felt Todd was understanding to my needs. My roof looks great and gutters are protected, Thanks Todd.

Our experience with Charlie Rinaldi for our home inspection was wonderful! Being an Engineer, his expertise put us at ease while buying a 93 year old REO house. We've bought 7 houses over the years and have never had such a thorough knowledgeable inspectior! He spent over 3 hours going over and explaining every inch of the house and addressed our concerns with the foundation, roof, plumbing and partially updated electrical. Charlie's electrical background was extremely helpful. Charlie is not a nit-picker. He doesn't exaggerate minor issues to validate inspection report as many other home inspectors do. Charlie explained the necessary immediate repairs , and the minor repairs that would be needed in the future. *Weeks after our inspection, we had an issue with mortgage underwriter who'd seen an appraisal picture and was adding last minute contingencies to our loan . We reached out to Charlie Rinaldi requesting his help. He was a true professional and went the extra mile, writing a letter to clarify the non-existent issue. We highly recommend Charlie and Rinaldi Engineering for thorough and accurate home inspections, he is truly qualified with his Engineering background ! Thank you Thumbtack!

I was very impressed with this company. From the estimate to the finish. Bobby Clough is very professional and knowledgeable. He takes the time to explain all details, answer any question you may have and displayed amazing attention to detail throughout the entire project. We knew from the first time we met Jeff he was the contractor we wanted to get the job done. From the first time we met Jeff to get a quote about our roof he was nothing but honest, and very detailed about exactly what he would be doing to get our roof back to brand new. Him And his crew showed up at exactly 7:00 sharp yesterday to start on our roof. They were extremely organized, professional, and honest. Anytime we had questions along the way they didn’t stop to hesitate and answer them for us and always kept our best interest at heart when it came to getting our roof done right. We have had some horror story experiences in the past when it came to hiring other contractors for home improvement work. But JPV Roofing turned that right around for us in so many ways. If you are in need of a new roof, please take the tome to give Jeff a call. I promise you he will not disappoint and you will definitely be choosing him for all your roofing needs!

I was looking for a roof repair or replacement depending on how much work needed to be done. I was contacted by Victor right away and he made an immediate appointment. By this time I had already been visited by 2 other pros and they both quoted only an entire replacement rather than any other options and the price was too steep for what I had in mind. Victor gave me options, explained the whole process, actually went up on the roof to look at it, the other companies quoted me based on square footage measured from the ground. I hired H & V and had a work date set within the week. Victor came to do the job right on time as he assured me he would, did the job, and cleaned up so good, you wouldn't know he was there. He showed me before and after pictures of my roof and laid out the whole warranty plan. I would recommend H & V to any out there looking for roofing.t

Great job. Reasonable price. Large roof, about 60 square, stripped and replaced in one 12 hour day. Work performed on Sunday so my auto repair business and 2 tenants were not disturbed. Large crew that worked together and got along like a team. Very neat and clean and professional. First class operation. Highly recommended.

I contacted S&G about my potential large remodel project that included the following :2 full baths+ gutting the first floor (walls, floor, ceilings and included the removal of a chimney and multiple walls), new stair case, support beams for the the house, a new cement staircase to the yard, and the installation of a new top of the line kitchen. From my first interaction, I had told Edwin ( the owner) that I wanted to get started as soon as possible ( and he had a crew of 6 people gutting my house the next morning). He worked diligently to produce quality and timely work. Times where I had not liked the quality or specific detail he promptly corrected the situation. The value, quality, and efficiency was amazing! I would definitely work with this contractor in the future. Actually a couple weeks ago; I had a leak in my roof an he was the first person I called to come and fix it. He did so properly and promptly !!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
