Hached came out to check out my washing machine. He spent some time attempting to figure out what was wrong. He was 99% sure it was the drain pump, however he was unable to get the front panel off to fix the issue. He said he needed one more person to help him be able to open it, and would prefer if I didn't try to help in case I got hurt. (My stackable washer/dryer is fit extremely snug into a small closet) He suggested I try a different company or call him back if I was able to get the front panel and he could come fix it. He did not charge me for his trip over and his diagnosis. Although he did not fix the problem, he diagnosed it and suggested solutions and did not charge any $. He seems like a very trustworthy person to call.

I had my washer/dryer installed by this team. They were efficient in their set up and professional in the approach. The installation required some heavy lifting and maneuvers to lift onto a 3ft shelf.

Mark installed my Elfa shelves in all my closets and pantry; innovatively hoisted my huge front-load dryer and attached the vent to the ceiling; and installed ceiling lights in all of my rooms. He's very responsive to my inquiries and concerns; professional; adapts to the designs of older homes; does Excellent work; and is VERY REASONABLY and AFFORDABLY priced, as compared to other quotes and estimates I've received.

Faze did a great job fixing my squeaking dryer. My dryer is smaller than most, and sometimes requires special parts. When he realized the part that he needed had to be picked up from a neighboring town, he was able to pick it up and work around my scheudule to make the repair happen that day. He completed the repair quickly at a reasonable cost. Would hire again.

I really couldn't say enough good things about these guys. My Washing Machine and dryer broke so I was stuck with a load of wet clothes and no desire to deal with the laundromat. I figured I would hang the clothes to dry, call a repairman and hopefully have a working dryer in a couple of days. No need, they came out the next evening I called and had it fixed up in about an 2 hour for a bargain price! I slept soundly in my dryer fluffed PJ's confident that the repair will last :) Absolutely the best choice for washer/dryer repair in the area! Ps: thanks Donnell !!!Good job!!!

If Drew’s Service Solutions and Jon Drew respond to your Thumbtack job, you are fortunate. Don’t overthink it; just do it. I’m an overthinker and had 5 companies come out to give estimates. Drew was the first one and I should have committed then. Three weeks ago, I’d never heard of Jon Drew. Today and after a week of nothing short of heroism in my old, concreted, plastered home in which he did, among other things, a whole-house repipe from galvanized to copper, I’m recommending him to all my friends. Why? Ok, this will take a while. 1. His work is careful, thoughtful and beautiful. The waterlines now run where they need to in the most efficient way possible. He understands the end user’s needs. Although not in our statement of work, he replaced my basement utility sink with something much more useful and attractive, while adding beautiful copper waterlines with their own cut-off valves. He also ran much more efficient and beautiful clothes washer waterlines and gave me a bonus laundry waterline box, also with cut-off valves. Check out the photos. 2. He keeps his word and doesn’t leave you wondering. With my plumbing job, he did exactly what he told me he would do, down to the time he said he would be there in the morning. He let me know in advance about any changes. 3. He’s an educator. He’s the expert and I’m not; I just knew I had some plumbing problems and trusted him to fix them. Not only did he fix them, he first took the time to explain to me what the issues were so I could make an informed decision what to do about them.

Ingram Construction was professional and a pleasure to work with! They relocated my 4-prong dryer plug, as well as two other outlets in my basement. They arrived promptly for our appointment time, and was able to complete the job for a very reasonable price. He was polite, communicative, answered all of my questions, and was flexible to last minute changes. Would definitely recommend!!

Washer wasn't draining. Diagnosed that it was a clog. Cleared the clog but that did not work. Determined it was something else that was much more extensive. We decided to just get another washer. Only charged the trip charge.

Carlos responded to my request within minutes and came out that day to give me a quote which was very reasonable so we scheduled a time for him to come out and to the job which he was on time for. I had water damage due on my kitchen ceiling due to the washer leaking on the top floor which he repaired and painted the area which now looks brand new. I look forward to hiring Carlos for other projects that we need done at the house.

Service - I had stack-unit laundry center washer with a clogged pump. I knew what had to be done, but had no time to figure out how to do it. This tech was responsive and local to DC, so I selected him. He had me text him my address and and we coordinated a same-day appointment time. He came ahead of schedule. He charged more than I expected, but was open to negotiating a price I could accept. He was able to diagnose and resolve the problem within 30 min. I have locked him into my phone.

I liked that the technician was very knowledgeable about my appliance given that it is an old model. He didn't assume the washer could not be fixed due to the age but jumped right into fixing it and also offered other suggestions in keeping it in good working order. I am very pleased with this service.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
