Bathroom door made of metal was jamming and would not close. Tim discussed various options with us and went with the one we felt more comfortable with. He was very professional, patient, friendly and did an excellent job. He even helped us out with another door problem, which we brought up after he got to our place.

I engaged Mary because I am recentlya retired man and, among my retirement goals, was to learn how to cook. Now, I can/could scramble some eggs or make some pancakes, and I could certainly microwave, but I couldn't do what i wanted: prepare my own meals in a way that would allow me to eat healthy and well. Even following a recipe was a challenge. Who know what it means to braise something, to parboil! Once Mary understood my goals, she prepared a tailored curriculum. She developed two-hour sessions in her kitchen, the better to get into a full meal preparation. There was a heavy emphasis on safety in the kitchen, from washing hands before handling certain items to proper chopping technique. A side benefit was that I got to take home a goodly portion of what we cooked. Our meals ranged from falafels to lasagna (of course, the pasta was homemade). It was great. After a series of 5-6 sessions, I developed the confidence to go out on my own, working from recipes to add to my repertoire. Mary does all sorts of specialized food preparation for those who have more specialty interests. I recommend her highly.

To be honest, I cannot speak highly enough of Raffi. In just a couple of sessions, Raffi had already began to successfully impact our marriage. Both my wife and I continue to be impressed with him and our progress each week. He is genuine in his demeanor and sincere with his advice. He is patient with us and seems to balance when to listen versus when to overrule us perfectly. Most importantly, Raffi is nonjudgemental and does a fantastic job identifying and treating the source of the issue as opposed to merely dealing with the symptoms. We are especially grateful for his willingness to work with us despite running a significant amount of time over on numerous occasions. The value he has offered us is truly evident in our everyday lives.

Patrick was my supervisor at one of my first jobs out of college. Now nine years later, we both have moved on from those jobs and that company, but I continue to seek his advice and coaching when I am applying and interviewing for a new job. Last year when I was preparing for a big job interview, Patrick coached me in Behavioral Interviewing via phone, Skype, and email. Before I talked to Patrick, I was feeling overwhelmed and unprepared. Patrick's coaching helped me feel at ease, confident, and prepared for my interview. I highly recommend seeking counsel from Patrick to advance your career.

Mr. Qureshi is highly proficient in teaching meditation and deep relaxation techniques. During the first session, I felt a natural connection with Mr. Qureshi and his teachings. I look forward to future sessions and would encourage any who are interested in meditation to give it a try and see the stillness and peace grow within you.

Danny Dickerson is a highly motivating fitness and nutritional trainer. His personality, demeanor and temperament are uniquely suitable to be a coach for others. He is neither too strict nor too easy, but rather strikes the right balance to motivate his clients. He has a fund of knowledge in both physical training and in nutrition that he shares with his clients. Such extra sharing of his knowledge enhances the client's desire to succeed. Indeed, I have already seen great results. I have more energy, a better sleep pattern, a decrease in inches and more serenity. I am able to do more work around the house as a result of our work together. He is very detailed oriented and each session is both logical, linear and he documents the sessions. He also is quite a raconteur, which helps in his instructions. He is also timely and punctual. I would recommend him for any position with any organization, or for a reference to be added on any additional referral lists. Best regards, Joseph Friedman Attorney at Law

Amy is a very caring, positive supportive person. She is an excellent communicator with great patience. She was my life coach for about five years and helped me with my life goals and values. When I met my partner she became our couples coach. She was good at role playing and relationship skill exercises. She also was good at listening to us and not taking sides. The best thing I could say was that although I had been seeing her for years as my life coach , my girlfriend liked her from the start and always felt comfortable with her. She never felt that Amy favored me over her. This is the most compelling case I can make as to why Amy is so good and has a genuine affection for her clients. She is openly rooting for you. The things she could do better probably is true for most therapists and life or couples coaches. I felt especially as a couples coach she didn't challenge us enough or focus harder on some of the problems we were having. She did not however, attempt to do therapy which is beyond her training and was always clear and honest with us that she was a couples coach and not a couples therapist. My partner and I are still together and thanks to Amy we learned valuable communication skills and a respect for each other. I highly recommend Amy as both a life coach and a couples coach. You will always have a friend who cares about you and wants what's best for you in her.

I’ve known Janis for many years. She and I are professional colleagues who use different modalities to bring healing and comfort to the body, mind, and spirit of our clients. We began to work together when Janis was in training for her Neuro-linguistic Programming certification and needed a subject with whom to practice. Janis had previously completed her certification in transpersonal hypnotherapy, and I continued to work with her in this very effective body, mind, and spirit oriented approach. As her clinical expertise grew, so did the benefits that I received. I was able to make significant progress towards alleviating long-standing psychological/emotional blocks, which had prevented me from achieving my goals. This was something that I’d been unable to achieve, even with the assistance of other well known, and highly qualified clinical therapists. Janis now has several years of experience under her belt as a certified transpersonal, hypnotherapist. She is well trained, compassionate and caring. She is cutting edge, and continuously adds new techniques to her broad range of therapeutic skills (such as her Neuro-linguist certification), which she draws on and adapts to the specific needs of each person she sees. Her greatest joy is to have her clients achieve their goals. I am proud to know her, to work with her, and I highly recommend her. R. A. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

How much does a life coach cost?

A life coach helps clients set and reach professional and personal goals, develop positive habits, and deal with stress. Some people meet with a life coach once or twice, while others form an ongoing professional relationship, meeting regularly in person or on the phone. The average national cost to meet with a life coach ranges from $80 to $130 an hour. Some coaches offer per-session pricing, especially for one-time meetings; expect to pay an average of $100-$125. People who want to work with a coach over a period of time to explore life transitions, career growth or lifestyle changes may be able to get discounted pricing in a package. For example, three 60-minute sessions cost an average of $300, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $350, and four 60- to 90-minute sessions plus unlimited contact between sessions cost an average of $400. Some specific types of coaching, such as relationship or marriage coaching, cost more than standard life coaching. For instance, three 60-minute relationship coaching sessions cost an average of $500, four 60-minute sessions cost an average of $550, and six 60- to 90-minute sessions cost an average of $650 when purchased as a package. Training and experience can also affect the cost of hiring a life coach. An Associate Certified Coach, who holds a certification that requires only 60 hours of training and 100 hours of coaching experience, will charge less than a Master Certified Coach, who typically has at least 200 hours of training and 2,500 hours of coaching experience.

    Why get a life coach?

People of all ages and in all careers have called in a life coach. Life coaches are accredited professionals who can help you figure out the tangible changes you can make in your life to reach your goals; they can even help you turn your dreams into goals, if you’re not sure where to go next. A life coach can also help people find their purpose in life. Life coaching clients often have an idea of what they want to do, such as help people or work with animals, but don’t know how to turn that passion into a career. A life coach can help clients work through the options to find a clear path with concrete steps that lead to an attainable goal. A life coach can also help clients make a major career change, such as starting a new business. Life coaches can help clients develop better habits that will make them more successful, acting as an accountability partner. Life coaches also often guide their clients through major transitions in life, such as a career change or other stressful situations that are made easier with guidance from a neutral third party.
