This is my first time ever using Thumbtack and I was a little bit skeptical, but I went ahead and booked Stef's cat sitting service as her reviews seem to be very good. At first, I booked basic cat visiting service. However, just the day before the trip, my cat got an abscess burst. I had to take her to the vet and requested some extra services from Stef, but she was very accommodating. My cat seems very happy when I'm back home, food, water and litter pan well taken care of. Stef sent me messages everyday to update me on my cat's condition. Plus points in Stef's services: responsiveness and quality. She did everything to make sure my requests are fulfilled. I can't thank her enough for putting my mind at ease while being away and my cat was sick. Overall five star service!

Having quality care for the pet that I love so very much, required much research and someone who genuinely cares about my loved one. After looking for quite some time for a local pet sitter, I was blessed to have found Walking with Renzo & Ruby! My dog and I were one of the lucky ones that got the Renzo & Ruby experience! Their amazing owner Natasha is top notch and is very accomodating. She met all the needs that I asked for and more! Natasha welcomed us to a break the ice session. Mink and I were invited over to meet Renzo & Ruby to help with my dogs socialization skills, this helped with Mink's aprehesion she sometimes has with other dogs. Natasha offered the in home care and drop by visits if I needed it. I was assured that my dog would do fine in her home or mine because Renzo & Ruby were very good about sharing their space! Mink's nervousness diminished as she warmed up to Natasha and the introduction to her babies Renzo & Ruby, prior to her stay! I was elated and impressed at the attentiveness being displayed. While on vacation, Natasha sent the cutest pictures of Mink on the ride over and while warming up to her dogs! I will definitely recommend her services to anyone who is looking for superior care for their pet/s. Thank you Natasha! Alindia

This is an absolutely fantastic company. I was super nervous about leaving my puppy to be walked by a stranger but I have been so incredibly pleased with Waggy walkys. I've had two different walkers and both have been so trustworthy, kind, and reliable. I don't ever worry about my baby I know she's well taken care of and loved when I'm not home. On top of that their customer service is great. So so glad that I decided to do this!!! They are awesome here!

It's my first time using the pet-sitting service from a third party website (10 days, 1 ragdoll kitty) and was very happy with Donna's service - Donna is very responsible and caring, she fed and played with the kitty, scooped the litter box during every visit, and sent photos of the kitty from the visits, recommended for anyone looking for pet sitting service!!

After I contacted Barking Trails, I got a response back right away. The owner, Adam and the woman that was going to be walking my puppy came to my house at my convenience. We went over all the instructions and training techniques we've been working on. They have also been really flexible with our changing schedules. Great company.

We used Petstigious Pets for cat-sitting, and plan to continue to do so well into the future. Shatiya is a clearly an animal lover as well as professional, organized, reliable, and communicative. She arranged a pre-meeting to get to know us, our cat, our house, and our routine. While we were on vacation, she cleaned the litter, put out food and water, played with her, and picked up our mail and packages. After each visit she sent full reports and pictures. She is by far the best cat sitter we've had yet.

I had to leave town for 3 days but didn't want to leave my Yorkie at a kennel. Shaki was the perfect solution. My doggie was able to stay at home at my condo In SoFi where he feels safe and Shakir visited him 4 times per day to feed, walk and play with him. She kept me updated with lots of photos and videos with location tracking of their walks. Shaki is very loving with pets. When I came home my doggie was calm and happy almost as if I had never left. I highly recommend Shaki's pet sitting services.

When I met Kevin my expectations were low for my dog. He seemed to be pretty much out of control and I was told by several other trainers that his breed could not be trained. When Kevin came in the first day he got my dog to sit and actually follow a command. He accomplished more in one day then other trainers did in months. As the time went on I saw my dog's Behavior change drastically. He became an overall better dog and seemed much happier. Also as he was training Kevin trained me as well. I realize that I was doing a lot wrong and that was the cause of a lot of his behaviors. I realized in order for my dog to be better I had to be a better owner. All of this I learned from Kevin. I thought I was a dog whisperer until he showed me the right way to do it. Highly recommend Kevin because he doesn't have a method where one fits all. He takes the time out to learn your dog and customize the training. He also educates himself all things animals. You can contact him and get advice on just about anything for your pet. And if he doesn't know at that moment he will find out for you. It's hard to find people who Do It For the Love of Animals. Kevin is one that clearly has a connection with animals that allows you to be comfortable with him and the care of your dog. Having Kevin train your pet would be the best thing you can do for your family.

I felt very comfortable leaving my cats in Jill's care. One of my cats has some health issues and is on several meds and the fact that she is a Veterinary Technician was reassuring. No accidents, and both cats were happy upon our return.

Sarah went the extra mile for sure!!! I have a rescued Jack Russell with behavioral issues and had despaired of ever finding someone willing to pet sit for Kirby. He makes it super hard to want to be around him (threatening behavior, biting), but Sarah didn't give up! She gradually gained Kirby's trust and I saw for myself how happy he was to see her by the end of my week-long trip. Sarah went the extra mile for sure, and I was so happy to come home to a well-adjusted pup with none of his regular post-traumatic stress reactions to my being away. I wouldn't THINK about using anyone else!

Llunaly M. provided me excellent pet and human care for my Lab Mix Tango and generously helped me while I recovering from hand surgery. My dog was only a puppy and I was in a full arm cast for months. Tango took to her calm demeanor and happily awaited her arrival for their daily walks. She also would ask if I needed groceries or help with getting my mail. She loves animals and any pet parent would be well suited selecting Llunaly as their pet care provider. I can't recommend her enough! Rest assured, she is the best!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
