Working with Adrienne of Leviosa Communication has been an absolute pleasure. She paid attention to my needs from the project and delivered beautifully written copy. She was way to collaborate with and was quick to respond with edits and revisions. Her punctuality and responsiveness, along with her talent for writing, were what I appreciated the most about her. I would highly recommend working with Leviosa Communication for any project that needs well-written and creative copy.

I've worked for Jennifer, who was the Writing Studio Director at my college, and she also has helped me with my writing on a professional level. Jennifer is excellent at relaying how each person can maximize learning. She is very clear, but also very friendly with her guidance. When working with college students, Jennifer is able to help them break assignments down into easily digestible tasks and suggest edits (some that are significant and some that are minor) with ease and confidence. She tends to use a guiding method of asking questions and allowing you to find the answer. She is astute when it comes to ascertaining whether or not a student already knows an answer. If they do know it and just can't "see" it - she helps lead them to it. If they don't, she helps them find ways to research and remedy that issue, which build their confidence as a writer and a person. Overall, Jennifer is an incredibly passionate and positive professional. I highly recommend her for any sort of writing, editing or mentoring opportunity.

Ryan Mercik patiently and meticulously edited through reams of my Dad's 8mm film footage from the 1950s and 60s, transforming them into a DVD set of precious memories. She magically corrected color and light as she worked, often saving impossibly dark or blown-out sequences. Ryan also added fun music, appropriate to the times; and packaged the DVDs with still photos clipped from the film. I can't say enough about Ryan's expertise with this media. Her instincts are spot on. My whole family is grateful that she rescued our deteriorating films and gave us a gift from our childhood that has us doubled over in laughter, as well as in tears. Thank you, Ryan!

She sent back her notes and edits within 24 hours. I highly recommend her for any writing services you may have.

Greetings, It my great pleasure to recommend Elayne Star for a position in your company. I have personal experience with Elayne’s ability and skill in research, proofreading and copy editing. Using her creative talents she has helped me find new opportunities for my art and writing projects. Her interest in antiques, the arts and history of the area, plus her professional approach to office procedures would make her a valued employee. She has proven to be a dedicated, hard worker, who takes initiative to complete tasks in a timely manner. She also has a keen sense of humor and enjoys working in a stimulating environment. I’m confident Elayne would make a major contribution to your organization. With best wishes, Steve Hrehovcik

Greg was able to take on a wide range of topics from technical medical device guides to articles on lifestyle and wellbeing. He often asked follow up questions to clarify assignments and make sure he was on target. His projects were typically turned in ahead of schedule and needed little editing. He quickly grasped the brand and with that the voice of the organization. His work was always research-based and easy to digest. I would not hesitate to recommend him for content writing in the health field or any other.

    About

As a writer and editor I work hard to produce and polish compelling content. This is created through STORY, LANGUAGE and VOICE. STORY is the plot. This could be anything from your resume (the story of your professional accomplishments and career goals) to a romance novel (the story of a relationship). LANGUAGE is the words you choose to tell the story and VOICE is what is created when you rub the two together. Striking a balance between these three elements can be difficult but this is what a good writer and editor strives to achieve. I want my clients to feel that their story has been told in the very best way possible.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
