I loved the musical teacher she was such a sweetheart it was amazing. Although I would say that it's kinda pricey for singing lessons but oh well that's what happens when you decide to take them.
Still taking lessons. Works well with beginners and advanced players. Very professional. Teaches how to play guitar along with theory.
I am so glad we chose Northville School of Music! The staff is friendly and our teacher is excellent. I will definitely recommend to anyone looking for piano lessons!
Have had two bass lessons with John so far. He is a good teacher - very knowledgeable, good listener, and patient. He has a good way of helping learn technique as well as helping work on songs too. Highly recommend!
I've been taking guitar lessons from Erik Blundell for about 4 years now. I started with Erik after observing him teach guitar to my 11 year old daughter. I was impressed by how patient he was and his willingness to answer (and re answer) any question. Erik has an amazing knowledge of guitar, both electric and acoustic (bass also! and probably more instruments I don't know about). He also has real world experience playing live gigs and can help with questions and advice about playing a live show. Erik has a well trained "guitar ear" and constantly amazes me with his ability to whip out the complete guitar tab for most any song. He is also able to tailor the tab so that you're able to play it at your own level - easy at first, then move advanced when you're able. Erik can teach both musical guitar theory if you want or how to just jam freestyle to any song you like. His style is very casual and he tries to make every lesson fun and exciting! I have learned a lot from Erik over the past couple of years and I would highly recommend him as a private guitar instructor.
The owner is very nice and helpful. Jeff, my daughters bass teacher is a cool guy who has lots of knowledge.
Taking guitar lessons from Ivan aka "Big Ive" has been a wonderful experience. I'm learning much more than I imagined -- music theory, how to practice, etc. He is very knowledgeable and has a great way of explaining concepts in simple and memorable terms. As a beginner, I didn't know what to expect. Big Ive challenges me and that is great. Now, my expectations for myself are high. I highly recommend him as an instructor.
I'm an experienced guitar player, who returned to the instrument after a many year absence. It took me a LONG time to find a guitar teacher..and I found one with Nathan Montgomery. There were many others who could play, but not teach. Nathan is A LOT more patient with me than I am, and patient with the material no matter how simple or complex it is. Nathan always has some little practice technique that helps me to train my mind and my fingers or that can give me a process for getting through a piece that's complicated for me. He's flexible..if my muse and big mouth take our lesson in a completely different direction...he goes with it, tho does refocus me when necessary. Because Nathan has all these qualities, I can easily picture him teaching any one, any age, any level. There were some who could teach guitar, but NOT music, because they didn't really know music theory. Nathan infuses my lessons with thoughts on how music is designed and created, so I'm gradually getting a theory foundation while I learn songs I'm enjoying. There were few who actually LISTENED to what I could do before deciding how to teach me, as Nathan does repeatedly, because what I can do is constantly changing. Most importantly, I see a smile on Nathan's face when he sees progress...so I'm thinking it's not just a job to him. Met Don Ross (guitar god) at a workshop once and he offered to teach me, saying he could cover my music theory gaps in 4 lessons. I told him... "I'm good..I gotta great guitar teacher."
I took bass guitar lessons from travis for almost a year and had a great experience! He always had new material for me to learn, and was always open to teaching me music that I was interested in. Would recommend!
Jay has been a wonderful help noticing my strengths and helping me refine them. He challenges me and guides me to meeting those goals. Great guy!
Great bass teacher! I'm completely new to the instrument and he is very patient and explanatory. Love the convenience of having lessons in my own home!
Keith is a very patient & wonderful teacher. He works at your pace to ensure that you are progressing and understand the basics. I have greatly benefited from his lessons and will continue to do so.
Matt Cox is a phenomenal guitar instructor. My 10 year old son has been taking lessons from him since November and has been able understand everything being taught to him. Matt really takes his teaching seriously, and works at a pace that is comfortable for the student. He is very dedicated to his work. He even showed up for my son's talent show rehearsal to make sure all setting on amp were correct to give him the best sound, as well as to support him! Matt is very quick to respond to emails and phone messages and does not mind being contacted at all in between sessions. He encourages his students and their parents to ask any questions that may arise. He explains things at easy to understand levels and makes the learning fun and enjoyable. We could not ask for a better instructor!!!
I am a double bassist and bass guitarist in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. I recently completed my MM in improvisation at the University of Michigan and received my BM in music performance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 2010. I have extensive experience in many styles, including classical, jazz, rock, folk, klezmer, Balkan, metal, and more. I have led many ensembles and have recorded and toured as a sideman for folk and indie artists. My primary areas of performance are contemporary classical music and improvised music that pushes the boundaries of what music can be. I have a passion for the history of music and am comfortable working within many idioms in order to give students a foundational basis to build from. As a teacher, I am excited to work with students to find the music they really love to play and help them delve into what matters most to them. The primary goal is to be able to make music that is as rewarding as possible. I am happy to work with students on orchestra repertoire, jazz standards, and any other prescribed material but would also work on composing original music, improvising, and expressing what is meaningful to them as individuals. The bass is an unlimited instrument -- no style is unavailable to you!
