FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer a rate of $30/ hr. for base recording services. This includes vocal tracking and instrument tracking (normally a solo singer/songwriter or a duo - one vocalist, one instrumentalist.) If the project requires multi-tracking between three and five sources, I charge $40/ hr. To increase my trustworthiness, instead of charging per hour as I did before for mixing, I provide mix downs of the material we record for an additional $25-$50/ recording so that I am not held accountable for tracking work hours.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes I do. I currently assist as an engineer at Western Michigan University as well as stay up to date on technology through AES.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I grew up listening to a very eclectic array of musical artists across all genres because of the home I was brought up in. I took guitar lessons and self taught a bit of percussion and fell in love with the nuances of sound between different instruments and voices. Because of my interest in sound, I began doing small scale recordings and noticed the ways that the different sounds conflicted with each other. Once I got to college I decided to pursue the science behind sound and acoustics and improve the way I mixed those sounds. Now I am providing high quality services to those who love the way instruments blend together just as I do.
