We had recently had a new roof installed about a year ago. Then a tornado had passed through and a tree actually fell in the very center of it. When I called the roofing company that installed it, they are no longer in business. Then I found the roof guys and they did a new roof installation and even worked with my insurance company to get the entire thing paid for.

Mike did a wonderful job of organizing and keeping the project on track. It was quite challenging with a number of scope changes along the way. Mike also was very helpful with transporting building materials to the job site. He has a very talented carpenter that works for him.

Kellington Remodeling installed a new entrance door for me. Chuck came to my home and looked at my existing door and gave me a very fair price for the installation of a new door. Communcation throughout the process made me confident I would be happy with the finished product. Two people showed up to install the door. They were very professional and friendly. The work was completed quicker than expected and looks great. There were a couple aesthetic items that I think could have been done a little better but overall I think they did a great job. They cleaned everything well and you couldn't even tell they were there (except for the new door!). Lastly, a couple of days after the work was complete Chuck e-mailed me to make sure I was happy with everything. They did a great job for a fair price. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others.

A storm damaged my house roof and I needed temporary roof patch quickly before more rains came. I relieved to read Jim’s message say he could come out and patch my roof within a few hours. I check Eastern Roofing out several reviews online then the BBB, MN Business License and made sure he was insured. Everything was good, call the phone number it was Jim’s direct cell phone number. Jim came out and was able to patch my roof before it rained. There was no big sales pitch, but talking to him gave my confidence that he was a professional contactor. Jim worked with my insurance company, kept to his word and took the time to answer my questions. I was impressed with the quality of material that was used. The roofing crew did not just come and slap on a new roof, but took the time to install a great looking roof that I can be confident it will last for a long time.

The project was a siding replacement for house and garage. Half of the house is two floors. In total there was about 2400 square feet of floor. We used heavy duty vinyl siding. There were a lot of lights, doors, windows, corners, etc to work around. The crew did excellent work meeting these challanges. Additionally, we went with full metal cladding for all window & door trim as well as fascia, and veranda support structure. The metal cladding was formed on site and perfectly fit everything it was applied to. The crew was here at 7:00 am ready to start and worked till after 6:30 pm. Mr. Lessard was here most of the time when he wasn't retrieving additional materials that were needed as the work progressed. The result was a project that went smoothly from start to finish. It is now a year later and there have been no problems due to winter weather or spring storms. We are totally happy with the results and have no regrets for choosing to go with Tier1 Restoration.

Jason was great! My roofing job was the kind most contractors run away from. (115+ year old house, 2 story, steeper than 12/12, four layers of roofing-3 asphalt,1 cedar, etc.) Jason took care of everything (including working with the Insurance adjuster to get coverage on some things they missed.) They left the work-site in immaculate condition. I'd recommend Northern Exteriors to friends and family and I'd use them again in a heartbeat!

Thorough and honest bid. Mark pointed out a couple things about the previous shingles and roof design (two vent systems cancelling each other out) that other contractors didn't point out. The singles that were on our house had a class action lawsuit and Carroll's Exterior helped file the claim for us. Installers were great and the roof looks amazing!

Rooster Exteriors recently completed a new roof system on our house. We have enjoyed working with Sergie Gontcharenko, and we are impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. The entire project from tear off through installation of the new roof took two to three days. His crew was courteous and efficient. They also did a great job with the clean up afterward. We intend to use Rooster Exteriors and Sergie for future projects on our house.

We had water staining on our ceiling, so we called Home Pro America and told them we were concerned. They were very responsive and sent someone out the same day. They found that there was a moisture problem in the attic, which had caused the water staining and quite a bit of mold. They presented a plan to remove the moldy insulation, apply a mold stain remover on the underside of the roof decking and rafters, correct the ventilation, seal the penetrations into the attic and reinsulate. Because of our concerns, they scheduled quickly and completed everything the following week. They provided before and after pictures so we could see what had been accomplished. Everyone was very professional throughout the process. We will use them for future projects and will recommend them to friends and family. Great job Home Pro America!

Very satisfied with the Bid and Workmanship. Dave Englund himself came out and gave us a bid. He was straight forward and didnt tell us what we wanted to hear, he told us the truth. We had others out and were told we had to replace the whole roof. Dave Englund gave us Repair Options along with replacing. We had choices, and that was nice. Thanks Again Dave and Crew.............Great Job!!!!!

On August 16, 2016, we had hail damage to our roof. We hired Evergreen Construction too replace shingles on pitched roof and re-cover the flat roof of our home. Joe Hahs prepared the estimate and communicated with us regarding the various insurance coverage and expenses. He kept us informed of work schedules by text and email and appeared on site each day to check on progress and workmanship. Over a period of four days, the roof--both shingles on the pitched roof and the ice and water shield covering the flat roof--were removed and replaced as well as trim on soffits. The workmanship was excellent. The crew was hardworking and courteous. All construction debris was meticulously cleaned up each day and the finished project is completely satisfactory.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

        • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

        • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
          • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
        • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
        • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
        • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
        • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
        • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
          • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
