I just started taking guitar lessons - I've taken just two lessons to be exact. I was a little worried when I decided to look for an instructor because I am 60 years old and am mostly interested in learning to play contemporary worship music. Alex Born was a great match. He is a church musician and seems to be very experienced in the type of music I want to learn. The other thing I appreciate is that rather than give you music that he wants you to learn, he has you bring music that you want to learn and he helps you learn to play it. I enjoy his friendly, casual style of lessons and I expect I will be a student of his for quite some time.

About

I have been taking guitar lessons from Mike for ten years and I was at absolute zero when I began. He is a fantastic instructor, very knowledgeable about music and theory, and I've never needed another guitar instructor. I'm very happy with my playing ability and even after all this time, a marriage, kids, a house, and a bit less opportunity to practice than when I started, Mike's lessons are still interesting and I'm always learning. I would highly recommend guitar lessons from Mike regardless of your style, age, or current playing ability.

When my daughter Cady was 9 years old she started taking lessons from Bruce at a music store near our home. Unfortunately, the music store went out of business after about 8 months of lessons. Cady decided to take violin through her school. After two years of violin lessons Cady wanted to resume guitar lessons. Bruce was so good with her the first time around that I decided to call him. She was very shy at first but Bruce is so good with her that she warmed up to him rather quickly. Having a great teacher like Bruce makes lessons fun for Cady. He's very patient with her and makes sure that she understands each lesson. When Cady had a special request of learning some Christmas songs Bruce emailed the music to me so that I could print it for her. He has been coming to our home once a week now for about 6 months. His prices per lesson are very reasonable. He's always a little early (which is really on time) and he's very accommodating with our schedule changes. I highly recommend Bruce for guitar lessons!

We have been taking guitar lessons with Brian for over a year. Our 9 yr. old daughter has made great progress and can play many songs. She enjoys the lessons. I also have taken adult lessons from Brian and found them very helpful. Of course, the difficult part is finding time to practice between lessons but that is on us. The lessons are very convenient.

My 7 yr old son and I have been learning from Jeff for 4 months now. I can definitely say he is very good at what he does and is also very patient with beginners like us ( 40 year old & the other 7:) He has been playing for over 20 years and so knows his stuff. He is constantly trying to find ways to help us understand and learn things more easily. I have a traveling job and have had to reschedule a few times and he has always accommodated that. I strongly recommend Jeff for lessons, no matter what you sort of guitar lessons you are looking for.

Hello! As an adult beginner seeking to learn the guitar, I can tell you several things I've discovered through experience. Things I can state with complete confidence. 1) Learning to play guitar can become overwhelming rather quickly! With all the information available on line, through books and from friends who say they can show you, it's quite easy to waste a lot of time learning stuff that really isn't productive over the long haul. Sure, you'll learn quickly at first because you're starting from zero, but once you learn the fundamentals, now what? This is where the majority of guitarists languish for years rehashing the same old stuff and never really improving. You need competent guidance! 2) Speaking of competent guidance, I've had numerous teachers who were really good guitar players but after a couple of months watching them play, you begin to wonder why YOU aren't getting much better. They're good, you're not and you're not getting much better. You're wasting precious learning time. Playing and teaching are 2 separate issues. Being able to relay information is probably more important than the ability to play when looking for a teacher. Phil can not only play but excels at explaining music concepts so they are readily accessible to students seeking knowledge. He was the first instructor I was exposed to who had a prepared, written game plan. A step by step road map to mastering the instrument that he explains patiently and intelligently. He loves both playing and teaching the guitar and it is abundantly clear when you talk to him about the subject. I have yet to have a session with him where I didn't feel that I was better after our lesson than I was before it, and that is the main reason one seeks out an instructor. So they can get better! 3) Phil treats lessons like a professional. He's never been late or surprised by my visits. He is always prepared and that's one of the things I like best. He makes me feel like I'm his only student and that MY progress is what's most important. I'm not just a time slot to fill or a check to grab and cash. No ego or showing off his skills for large chunks of the lesson. My skills and my improvement is what matters most and my entire lesson, from start to finish, is devoted to that. 4) Music theory is a bit spooky, especially for the beginning student. The problem isn't the complexity of the subject but how it's explained and mapped out. Yes it can be complex but in order to truly understand the instrument, you must understand the underlying concepts of music theory. What I liked most about my initial interview with Phil was his interest in what I was looking to accomplish. I was questioned about my goals. What did I want to accomplish. Learn music theory? Learn to read notation? Learn to just sit on the couch and play the blues or rock or pop music? A combination of some of it or all of it? He had a path for any/all of it tailored to my wants and needs. I'm thrilled with the path I chose and my progress on that path but I'm reminded by Phil that the plan can change as I grow and learn which is as it should be. Flexibility in learning means more options which also means constant learning without stagnation or hitting a wall that equates to more wasted time. If you seek professional, intelligent and skillful instruction as it relates to the guitar, I urge you to seek out Phil and discuss your musical goals with him. He has helped me both understand music as well as the instrument. It's quite a thrill to honestly believe you are improving quickly at playing the guitar. I look forward to continuing to improve with Phil's guidance and honestly feel my goals are well within reach. Both my playing as well as my understanding of music is growing daily and I eagerly anticipate what the future holds for me and my guitar journey with Phil's assistance!

From the outset, F5 was friendly, enthusiastic, creative, and superlatively competent. As I laid out the difficulties of my project, they laid out solutions. Recording the Voice Over Talent, finding and creating the FX, and cooking it all down in the mix was easy, flawless, and fun. Their deep knowledge of sound and software transformed human error into sonic perfection. F5 SoundHouse met and exceeded all my expectations. The SoundHouse is a Powerhouse!

About

Our family has taken music lessons Mike Salow for over four years now. My one son plays guitar and drums an the other son plays bass. Mike is an excellent teacher in all of these instruments. He is patient and upbeat with my boys, professional, courteous, prompt and very reliable. He has won numerous awards for his guitar playing and is very versatile. Mike can start with classic rock, drop back to jazz, change to classical, and end up in an insane death metal shred without missing a beat....in guitar, bass and drums. It's crazy. We tried a couple of other in-home music teachers and none of them came close technically or had the ability to relate to and teach kids/young people. My boys went to the McPhail Center for Music and even their instructor and program was far inferior. Mike is a patient teacher that finds what motivates his students. He has an honest and kind way of relating that has kept my kids tuned in and motivated. Mike is the whole package musically, a great teacher and a wonderful person to contract services with. My whole family feels lucky to have found him. This guy is the bomb! You just can't get any better.

We appreciate his talent, his ability to teach at her level and how he keeps her motivated with a wonderful mix of technical and fun popular music. With both parents and students, Brady has great communication skills and a wonderful "open door" attitude.

Learn to play fingerstyle blues guitar like Charlie Parr and delta blues legends. I play mainly in open D and open G tunings, with and without slide, like most delta blues players. Learn to pick the rhythm with your thumb while adding melody with your fingers. As your skill increases, we'll add more complex bass rhythms and melodies.

It would seem I'm being hassled to be a guitar tutor which I accept only because I love music and guitar and all that mumble jumble. I can give guitar lessons to some extent and help with stuff you want to learn. I am a lead metal guitarist by heart and so that is what I can teach best. Concerning what you want to learn and if you are already very good to the point where your pared or passed me, all I can do is point to another teacher.
