In short, I would us hire Jamie at Fastidious Floors again in a second. He did a great job at a moderate price. If you are looking for someone who will take time on installing your floor with a fine attention to detail, Jamie is your guy. Jamie even provided guidance on which floor to use, and where I could the get the best prices. In addition to his expert carpentry skills, Jamie is just a plain old good guy. Someone felt at ease to leave at my home when I was away. The job was done in a timely manner, at a good price, with expert craftmanship. I would definitely use Jamie again.... In fact, I probably will soon!

Kris did a great job on our hardwood floor project. The floors were bare and had a lot of stains and scratches. He was able to remove all staining and the floors look incredible - like new. He completed the job in the time he estimated, was extremely clean and was very communicative throughout the process. Would definitely hire Kris again! Thanks!

I have had Footprint Wood & Stone (Robb Olson) work on 4 of my homes (personal + rental properties) over the past 8 years and have been nothing short of amazed by the quality and attention to detail Robb and his team have provided on each one of my projects. (Master Bath, Main Bath, Stone Veneer Fireplace, Floors (Tile, Wood, Refinish), Painting, Kitchen Counters, Backsplash, Cabinets) With each job Robb has come in with a reasonable bid given the request, completed the job on time, and within budget. I know Robb will see the project from end to end to ensure every detail is covered while keeping me informed along the way of the progress completed. Robb has even sent pictures throughout the day as major milestones are met on the project to keep me involved even though I am not at the house to see the work complete. Its hard in this day and age to find a connection like Robb who you trust in your home while you are away at work. Robb ensured that the job site was clean and organized at the end of each day and ready for family time each night. I strongly recommend Robb and team to anyone, and in fact, he has done a master bath remodel for my in-laws, laid a new kitchen floor for my Mom and installed bamboo floors for a friend. I have more work lined up for Robb in the future as his craftsmanship has yet to be matched by any other bids I have had on my properties.

Don had completed multiple home improvements for us - just to name a few: New ceiling on the entire main floor, renovated our half bath top to bottom, new sub flooring, molding, plumbing. Very knowledgeable in many areas and everything was completed with the quality that we expected.

Carl's Wood Flooring

I had Carl's Wood Flooring refinish all the wood flooring in my home shortly after I purchased it as they were in terrible condition. They sanded down the flooring applied my choice of stain color and then put a poly sealant on it. I have had nothing but compliments on the refinished floors. The guys doing the work were very courteous and worked many long hours to get the job finished when promised. This is a messy/dusty job and the guys did a very good work of cleaning and or sealing off the other rooms in the house as to keep it to a minimum. I should also mention that once I contacted Carl he was out at my home giving me estimates as requested, making suggestions on what to do. He had many choices of stain colors available for me to choose from along with pictures of the actual colors. There was one room that I had an old style parquet flooring in it, I assumed it would need to be replaced however Carl assured me that when they were done it would look like new and he was right, it turned out awesome. (See pictures) In any case I would definitely recommend giving Carl's Wood Flooring a call you wont be disappointed. Check out some of the before and after pictures we couldn't be happier.

Armagh Hardwood Flooring did a wonderful job. If I could post the pictures you would see an amazing transformation. Carpet had been glued down to the hardwood floors and John was able to get the glue off!! I had five quotes for the job, two of the contractors wouldn't even attempt to get the glue off but John was able to remove it and was very reasonable with pricing. Would definitely recommend to family and friends. John and Luann are wonderful people to deal with, very friendly and honest!!!!

I had a great experience and he was highly recommended. They brought in a wrong size and immediately went and cut a new one. The lowest price around by far too.

Detail ... Attention to deatail if the homeowner is not happy neither am I. Warranty my work for 2 years.

I am an expert flooring mechanic with over 20 years of experience in all types of floor covering products. My motto is this: to treat every home and business as if it were my own. I work with and install all types of flooring -- carpet, vinyl, LVT/LVP, wood, laminate, VCT and tile.

We meet all flooring needs. We've been in business since 2001. We specialize in carpet and wood, laminate and tile floors. We do install hardwood but sub out the sand and finish work for those floors. We offer free estimates and fair pricing. We started the business in 2001 but have been installing floors since 1998. We offer a one-year warranty on all installation and a five-year warranty too. We help any customer deal with a product failure, that would be covered by product warranty. Mills doesn't like to claim a defect. Having an experienced installer there to combat factory reps is truly an important thing.

We are honest and transparent in what your project needs and what we will do if we get hired.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

    • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
    • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
      • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
    • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
    • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
      • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
    • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
      • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
      • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
      • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
        • Includes removal of the dura rock.
    • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

    • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
      • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
    • 620 square feet of maple floor:
      • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
      • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
        • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
