A very friendly, supportive, and encouraging teacher to the kids and adults. Mary is so professional, dedicated and loving teacher with a great passion to teach piano and flute. She was very supportive to organize the classes in align with my job schedules. I will highly recommend Mary to any parent that is looking for a great, caring piano teacher for their kids for their weekly lessons.Jun 19, 2018Verified
Our son took flute lessons from Mary Somogyi from the fifth grade until the week he left for college. Mary not only teaches the mechanics of playing the flute and reading notes, but teaches how to make music. This takes time and practice. Mary's patient and encouraging nature helps her students to feel comfortable when making mistakes and learning. She also incorporates music history and information about composers. Our son loved learning about the composers of the music in which he was playing. We were really impressed by Mary's teaching music as a hole and not just about the instrument. She is definitely a professional who is passionate about teaching music. Give her a try, you won't be disappointed.Aug 25, 2015
Piano Lessons (for adults)
Mary actualizes the best of both worlds. If you are looking for a pro who can actually teach piano (not just play), Mary has a strategy, know how, and a nurturing style. What I did not expect, but love to hear, is the fascinating mini history lesson I get each week about each piece of music, and the resource of digital accompaniment while I play. I’m approaching my one year anniversary of lessons, and I’m thrilled that I can play, read music, understand the background of the piece, and, most of all, continue to be inspired by Mary to conquer the next song. Flute Lessons (for adults)
I've only had one lesson with Mary. She's very friendly and encouraging. I'm looking forward to learning from her.Jan 11, 2018Verified
I'm updating my review now that I have been working with Mary for a year. I have learned and grown a lot since starting lesson with Mary a year ago. She is very knowledgeable and teaches not just the music but also where it comes from. I enjoy every lesson I go to and she really shows she cares about you as an individual and your progress. If something isn't working, she will find a new way to teach so that you'll understand. She's awesome.May 11, 2019Verified
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My standard price is $25 per half hour lesson, Longer times are multiples of this. For example, 45 minutes is $37.50, and an hour is $45. For most students, a half hour lesson is plenty, as I do a lot in that time. For older students with longer pieces, or those preparing for auditions or concerts, longer times would be recommended.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? The client is invited to a free lesson at my home. Besides the lesson, we discuss their goals and experience, then make recommedations on where to start.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Music minor in college, professional performance 30 years, music director of a performance company (the boss, included performance, rehearsal direction, client contact) for 11 years, teaching 22 years, concert bands for 15 years. Church performance 25 years weekly.
