Kenneth D. says, "Since I was a teenager, I have wanted to learn to play the guitar. Once I finally became serious enough about achieving that goal, I started searching for a teacher. After asking friends if they knew of, or could recommend a guitar teacher, I began searching the internet for teachers in the Bartlesville, OK area, and stumbled upon the thumbtack website. That is where I met Jim Bartmess! I started taking guitar lessons in May 2014. At the end of our first 30-minute lesson, I was actually playing music, real, honest to goodness music! Jim is extremely dependable and stays in contact with me via text, e-mail, and phone calls in-between lessons. Jim has the patience to teach even someone like me to learn to play the guitar! After just a little over three months of taking lessons from this wonderful man, I have learned the nine songs that were part of his lesson plan for me. A lesson plan by the way, that is not written in stone. He is constantly adapting his lesson plan to teach me the things that I want to learn along with the things that I need to learn. Jim uses variety in his teachings, from strumming chords for some songs, to using a fingerstyle technique to play others. I am sure there are other techniques; however, I have not gotten that far along just yet. Jim shows up on time for my lessons and works hard to ensure that I enjoy learning to play the guitar! He patiently listens to my questions then gives me the requested information without overloading me. Nine songs may not seem like a large number of songs after 3 months of lessons. However, these songs are just a small indication of how much Jim cares about his students success. Jim has used these nine songs to empower me to reach out on my own an attempt other songs; of course, this takes place in between practicing the songs that provide the basic techniques he is teaching at this time in my learning experience. Practice is actually fun! As a result, I have over 32 songs that I can now play! O course, I am better at some of the songs than others; but they all are recognizable by anyone hearing me play. Nevertheless, I have real musical sounds coming from an instrument powered my own hands! Enough so that I can play with friends who have played for a very long time and actually have fun! Jim Bartmess gave me this gift! For me, learning to play the guitar from Jim Bartmess is a joy. He never pushes me farther or faster than my ability to absorb and apply what he is teaching. If you are searching for someone to teach you to play the guitar and allow you to enjoy the journey, Jim Bartmess is the person you should contact!
