With a diverse background in many different playing styles, I teach lessons in voice and three different types of guitars: electric, acoustic, and classical guitar. In a lesson with me you will be focusing on four main areas: repertoire, music theory, improvisation and technique. Repertoire is simply the songs you are working on in preparation for performance. Music theory provides ear training, note-reading and sight-reading skills, and knowledge of how music works (theoretically). Improvisation drills your solo skills which in turn increases your confidence when jamming with other musicians. Lastly, technique is how to hold the guitar and how to use the left and right hands in a way that that is relaxed and tension free. With voice it entails learning how to breath properly, prevent vocal strain, and expand your range. In addition to these areas of study, I also offer songwriting and audio recording lessons for more advanced students.

As a guitar instructor of over 10 years. I've encountered students of all ages, from early beginners to advanced players looking to learn a few new tricks. I cater lessons directly to each student's abilities and strengths and weaknesses. I believe that successful instruction stems from understanding a student's specific learning style to shaping the lesson to maximize both the student's education and enjoyment. Most importantly, I encourage students to remember playing guitar is supposed to be fun! True, learning guitar takes some time, but I always try to bring the lessons around to some song or genre of music the student enjoys. Having a good time and learning the music you want to learn, above all, is what I try to emphasize with my students.

Our daughter has been taking guitar lessons with Gene Hilbert for about a year now. She is not only playing the guitar, she is playing complicated melodies! She has learned and continues to learn classics, rock n' roll, country, rhythm & blues. He gives her the kind of music training that keeps her wanting to learn more and enjoys practicing. He is brilliant in our opinion and works great with kids. We also know several children whom are being taught by Gene and they love their guitar lessons and music training too!!

Zach was simply an outstanding guitar teacher. His technical ability and knowledge of music theory are equally superb, and he effectively taught the instrument with concision and clarity. He articulately helped me conceptualize the learning points and put them into practice. After our sessions, I can say with confidence my playing has markedly improved and I'm even playing shows in Washington, DC now. If you are considering learning guitar, especially if you're of beginner or intermediate skill level, don't pass up on the opportunity to work with Zach!

Hello. I am offering a new take on guitar lessons. Learning to play an instrument should be nothing but fun, even when tackling challenging concepts. I specialize in helping students "jam" or improvise on the instrument so that every time they pick it up, it feels fresh and new. This is not to say I don't introduce important concepts and musical theory's necessary to a lifelong relationship with music. I have taught people ages 8-30 and have been proud of the results. Whether you are looking to strum along with some friends, or get into music school, CnC Music Instruction can help you along. Contact Casey Chanatry for more information.
