If you have a need for creative work, whether it be writing for sales, corporate or retail product background and sales or broadcast work, if you've found Bill Lenz, you've just had a very lucky day. Not only is he a skilled writer across multiple disciplines, but he's a damn fine narrator as well, which only adds to his ability to be "just right" when he creates and puts work in place in most any medium. I have worked with Bill over the years on a variety of projects, and he's the best kind of colleague: dependable, results oriented, always prepared and a great collaborator who "gets it" quickly and effortlessly. In short, he's saved my bacon more than once, while producing absolutely top-notch work. You've got enough stress in your life. Hire Bill and sleep soundly. Your project could not be in better or safer hands

Nelson is a seasoned author, journalist and speaker. As his mentor and coach, he is an extremely detailed writer, very funny and has much to share and relate to the public regarding his expertise pertaining to issues of homelessness and in helping people in similar situations move beyond the bondage they find themselves in. As a man who was once homeless, he has a heart for seeing those who have potential as he did to find their life path despite their hardship and loss. Nelson, a graduate of the University of Southern California, following a successful journalism career, never thought he'd find himself homeless, having to get back up after being knocked down many times. Because he has made a comeback, he is able through speaking and his books, help those in need as well as educate professionals in how to handle the problem of homelessness in their communities. He is a very gifted man who has helped many through his talks and acts of service move beyond the challenges they face as he still works through them as well. His education and combined experience is a plus.

I am happy to report my working experience with Crystal has been of the highest degree of excellence. She has consistently remained, prompt, courteous, friendly, and exceptionally professional. For many years I have written on a variety of complex topics and did not realize how poor of a writer I was until Crystal edited and added the necessary clarity and flair to the work. Clearly she has a rare ability to select and organize words and wording in a way that makes difficult topics an easy and enjoyable read for most anyone. I am always looking forward to Crystal's unique abilities should I need any editing assistance in the future and I highly recommend her skills and abilities to anyone seeking the same. Again, I am happy to be able to write this very pleasurable review. Best wishes and keep up the good work.

I would highly recommend and urge others to work with Craig Bohanan. My family and I are still overjoyed with the beautiful personal history piece he did on my beloved ninety-four year old grandmother. Craig has a true gift with his ability to find the right story to tell about another. He listened intently to my grandmother's tales and chose just the right story to record for all of us. His carefully crafted words perfectly captured her personality - her bravery, sense of humor, humility, and love of adventure. The final piece he created of her story and his beautiful photos truly brought tears to our eyes. His work will be cherished in our family for many generations.

I have known and worked with Marie since the late 1980's. She's a true professional. She is compassionate, smart, talented, and dependable. She can learn about new subjects quickly, and her years of life and career experience have prepared her well for any number of types of assignments. She has a spunky determination and she doesn't give up easily, even when projects become very tedious. She worked as a freelance writer for me once when I edited a business publication, and more recently has submitted a variety of story ideas and press releases to my current employer.

            About

My work is not only true to myself but it shows you a better perspective of what I am trying to give people. In my blogs, my followers read and understand what I say while also learning a little more about me. I never say it is me but they always know. I want other people that write or want to become writers to put themselves in their writing. Because a monotone writer is a boring story.

            Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

            • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
            • Strong writing skills.
            • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
            • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
            • Expertise in your target area.
            • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

            • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
            • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
            • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
            • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
