Dear Tamara Koltun, I want to thank you for your expertise in acupuncture Chinese medicine. With numerous health problems most of my life, I’ve found to have been seeking your type of healing for my body along time. I’ve been to another person who does the same type of work as you. However, to my shock, I’ve clearly seen a huge difference in the two of you! Your work actually helped me get over pain for an extended period of time as well as helping my body step up in recovery, unlike the other. After my first visit with you is when I noticed the difference in your methods. I was amazed and most of all relieved! I felt I have finally found someone who actually cares for others lives to be healed and well. It gives my heart and mind huge relief! I’m very thankful for the acupuncture you give me. You’ve helped relieve a lot of inflammation in my body, along with pain in numerous areas on my body. It’s really amazing at the difference my body gets with your help. You are very sincere in your work, and I know it means a lot to you to help others be well. Knowing this about you is what is important to people like me. We need more like you in this world! I’m grateful to have found you for help with my body. I will be forever grateful! You are a true doctor, healer of our body. Thank you for helping me and others alike! May you be blessed always in your health, and prosperous in all you do! Sincerely, Sherry B.

I found Marni while I was experencing a major shift in my life. I had been searching for someone to help guide me down the path with wisdom and openness. While I went through many web pages of diffrent intuitive healers and mediums.....I landed on Marni's website. Something about her profile hit home with my spirit. I initiated contact. Marni set a time to have and initial meeting with me. We discussed what I was experencing and she explained how she could help me. I purchased my first package of 6 sessions and the work began. Each session with Marni was slightly different....but most everyone included verbal dialog/exploration and Chakra energy work. Occasionally, we would incorporate tarot and healing properties of crystals. While, I was not well versed in these methods and tools, I remained open to the concept and embraced the work we did together. Marni even gave me assignments or "homework" to incorporate between our sessions. Every session, the result was felt inmediately and was kinda like a "tune up". I felt like we made such succesdful huge strides in the first 6 sessions that I went for another round of 6. New issues to tackle....new progress to be made. I will say that my life seemed to be more awakened, more aware, and more free while I was working with Marni. The more consistently you work....the better you feel. It has been a while since I have had a session with Marni...and I can honsetly feel a difference. While Marni is not a clinical therapist or a life coach (a term that should never be used to describe her ;), working with her is like an alternative form of self exploration and enlightening. Would I reccommend Marni and her services.....ABSOLUTELY! Marni is full of love and full of positivity to share with everyone. If you are hesitant, give her a call and just talk to her. You will understand once you do.

I came to Melinda after a referral from a friend at first I was skeptical however, Melinda walked me through every step of the process and it was really intuitive. She gave me an insight on where my life is headed and talked about the angels with me. I could go on and on about her services and believe me it's all positive! Even when I first reached out to her she responded in a timely matter. all I can say is that I will be continuing to speak with Melinda!

Kerrie was fantastic! I gave my employees the gift of "office chair massage" at work for hitting their sales goals. Kerrie was on time, professional, and everyone loved their massage. Would recommend Kerrie highly for anyone wanting to treat themselves (or others) to a relaxing massage. A+ experience!!

"It was my single, hard-working mother's birthday and I wanted to give her something worth for all her efforts. I was a little confuse about the different massage there was. I wanted the best massage package for my mom since she was always complaining of muscle pain. Lisa was very nice and generous of recommending what she thought was best for my mother. My mother recently visited CHI and had the most relaxing experience. In fact, I am amazed at how much better my mother felt after the massage treatment. Lisa is a natural healer and would highly recommend her therapeutic services to anyone who needs to be re-energised. Thanks again Lisa and my mother can’t wait to try your other soothing treatments. I will continue to use Lisa in the future and have no hesitation in recommending anybody to Lisa who has a need for this service." Swedish Massage

I have been going to Yoga Om in Huntersville for over a year now. I was lucky in choosing the best yoga studio ever for my first experience. The atmosphere is very calming and soothing. I am able to leave my cares of the world behind for the time that I am there. Joy is a wonderful teacher! She is very attentive to the needs of the students and she intuitively knows your capabilities. She always tells us "to be patient with your practice". So you feel like you are on an endless journey and not a destination. I am very happy at Yoga Om and would not change a thing!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Reiki and how does it work?

Reiki is a type of wellness bodywork, often referred to as energy work, that originated in Japan. Reiki practitioners offer this traditional healing technique with the intent of manipulating the flow of energy through the client’s body. Unlike massage, Reiki uses minimal — if any — pressure, focusing on stimulating energy flow rather than working the soft tissue and muscles. This movement of energy is done to improve mental, emotional and physical health. Reiki is touted for its stress relief and ability to ease tension. It can also improve mental clarity, release stress and tension, manage pain, or help with spiritual growth. It is said that Reiki practitioners act as a channel for a universal life force to help support a client’s natural ability to heal. Reiki sessions often last 30 to 90 minutes, with prices varying based on session length, background and experience of the provider, and where you live. Nationally, the average price range for a Reiki session is $60-$80.

    What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

    • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
    • Nutritional medicine
    • Botanical medicine
    • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
    • Hygiene
    • Counseling
    • Minor surgery
    • Homeopathy
    • Acupuncture
    • Intravenous and injection therapy
    • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

    Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

    • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
      • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
    • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
      • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
      • Do I need a referral?
      • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
      • What will the co-pay be?
      • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
    • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.

Where does Reiki energy come from?

Reiki is a form of bodywork that involves the “laying on of hands” to heal. In Reiki, a client lies down, clothed, and allows the energy worker to pass their hands slowly over their body, sometimes physically touching the body and sometimes hovering above it, to help create healing movement in their energy. This movement of energy is said to help the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

According to the International Association of Reiki Professionals, the practice of Reiki was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900s. The doctor sought to create a healing practice that wasn’t attached to any religion or religious belief so that all people could use it. The healing power of Reiki is said to come from a universal life force, and the Reiki practitioner is like a channel or conduit for the healing energy that is present in all living organisms. The Reiki practitioner can sense energy blockages and help restore flow, which in turn can help create emotional, physical, spiritual or mental wellness.

    Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.
