Sergio gave me a prompt, and well explained quote for removal of carpet, flooring installation, and some repairs from water damage. I chose Sergio because he spoke to me professionally without arrogance and provided a fair quote. Sergio and his crew worked extensively, long hours. His lead flooring specialist, Ephraim installed the flooring in a quality manner with an eye for detail. He explained why he ran one room a certain way and some changes to consider. Sergio was on site every day to communicate any issues and run through all possible repairs. When comparing Sergio to other companies that I explored, I felt that I could trust him and proved that I was right! I am so thankful I found Sergio and his crew. My flooring looks amazing!

Joe and his team came in after a disgwasher fire in my kitchen. He led the effort in refinishing all of our hardwood floors, repainting the entire living room and kitchen walls, ceiling and trim as well as installing the countertops and new cabinets. We couldn't be more pleased with how the project turned out and Joe made it easy during an otherwise difficult and frustrating time.

Eduardo and his team replaced our roof, resurfaced our ceilings, and repainted our kitchen. He was very prompt in evaluating our roof and providing an estimate. He was also extremely thorough in his explanation of work to be done and the materials he uses. The cost of the work done was fair, and significantly less than the two other companies that quoted for a new roof. All work was completed quickly, and with extreme attention to detail. Eduardo was constantly present on site evaluating the work done, working, and overseeing the project. Because he was completing several projects for us at one time, he included several additional services at no charge. He and his team took extra care to clean up the worksite. Eduardo and his team provided regular updates and were in constant communication with us throughout the process. We highly recommend Eduardo and J&M Construction for roofing and other work that you may be considering for your home.

We hired JFItzgerald to do several jobs at once. Roofing, tearing down and rebuilding a deck, tearing down old fencing and putting in new fencing, vinyl siding repair are just some of the items. Everything was completed in a timely manner and looks great! Not only was John very professional, he provided great customer service and was a very tidy worker. There was never any trash or debris left lying around. We will definitely hire him again in the future and will recommend him to anyone looking for a General Contractor.

Mr. Skatell and his crew came today as promised and removed our old roofing and reshingled today. While they were professional and attentive...they wasted no time and finished today. The pricing was fair and they left no mess for us to clean up. Excellent job and service. Our home is happy with its new hat.

Odyssey has done two roofs for me. I am not a contractor I just happen to own two home. The workers showed up when they said they would. They where all courteous & friendly at all times. This company is truly very professional and perform as they say they will. We had one issue that we didn't even know about but Shawn saw it and made arrangements for it to be corrected right away. Again this company is totally professional and will treat you fair. Thanks Shawn for the great job.

We had our old deck removed and a new/bigger one built, as well as some rotted wood replaced with siding near the new deck installation. It was very clear from the beginning that they know what they were doing, could show and explain to us the concerns that came up, and got the job done in five days (original timeline was about 2 weeks). Now we have a gorgeous deck that we are beyond happy with. Cannot recommend highly enough!

I contacted Performance Roofing Sysrems regarding what I thought was a leaking roof. The representative responded to my inquiry immediately, visited the site and thoroughly investigated the problem. When it became apparent that the roof was not the issue, he continued his investigation to identify what was an air conditioning problem. I was impressed that he did not merely walk away after he determined it was not the roof, but worked until he could pin point the problem. Pleased with this service, we are currently considering using this company to replace the siding on our house.

Hank followed through on the time he said he'd come inspect, on giving me an offer, and eventually on the delivery of the roof on the day we selected. The roof looks good, and no complaints after install at all. Would work with again.

I hired Jacob to install an attic fan in the roof of my home. Jacob's response time on Thumbtack was lightning fast, and he was genuinely interested in gaining my business. His price estimate was extremely fair and he and his crew did a wonderful job of installing the fan. Jacob and his crew were polite, respectful and worked VERY HARD in the heat to get the job done in a timely manner. I HIGHLY recommend Jacob for any handyman project you may have. Outstanding job, guys... Keep up the good work!!!

Hands-down best company I've ever had do a project on my house! They installed a new beautiful roof for me. From the sales process in the beginning all the way through the installation. They installed my roof in one day! The salesman actually brought in samples and showed me options to choose from. He was on time and very knowledgeable. The project manager was very caring, he even helped pick up nails with the crew when he was at my house checking out everything during the install process. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to get a new roof.

Storm Guard did an outstanding job replacing our windows, siding and installing a new roof. We were remodeling the interior of our home at the same time and the Storm Guard crew jumped right in and worked along with them. They were fast, efficient and attentive to even the smallest of details. Choosing new windows is a difficult task and Chris's expertise was extremely valuable in the decision making process. We get a lot of complements on the exterior of our home now! We highly recommend the Storm Guard team to anyone updating or replacing the exterior of their home!

Sean walked the roof with me, explaining possible problems and fixes. Explained the proposal figures in detail. The crew showed up on time and went at it.When the old shingles and felt were off, Sean walked the roof again pointing out problem spots and explained the fixes. Excellent product, excellent installation and at a fair price. I would recommend to all my family and friends. Thanks again, Dan Liles

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

      • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
        • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
      • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
      • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
      • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
      • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
