Hornet moving was amazing! This was our first time hiring movers, and I was concerned about the cost and time requirement. The team was SO professional and friendly and efficient. They finished our move in under 3 hours. I was so so happy with our decision to hire hornet moving and would recommend to everyone I know!

I was extremely pleased with Queen City Building & Moving Solutions. The movers were very professional & very efficient. Their customer service is amazing. A very helpful team of individuals who go beyond to make sure you are satisfied and taken care of. I was in great hands from the time of the phone call to book my reservation to the time we were moved. This is a new up and coming business. I have no doubt they will go far with the work ethic and customer service they provide. I would definitely use their services again.

The speed and ease of booking the appointment was great. The confirmation and communication from the main office and the Bellhop team Captain was also timely and very re-assuring. The team was very friendly, professional and worked very fast. We have moved to and from several suites in this office building over the years; and what usually takes other proffesional movers 10-12 hours, these guys did in 3 to 4 hours! Amazing! We are already planning to use them again for another project.

Great guys, they moved me out of my third floor walk up into my my place. They were quick but safe with my things, including some heirloom quality dining room furniture (very heavy). They got my couch and dining room set up a narrow staircase that had a turn, with ease. I would highly recommend K&K. Let's be honest, moving sucks... These guys gave me better peace of mind and made moving much less of a pain. Great movers at a great price!

I found Perfect Moving on Thumbtack.com after previously booked movers cancelled on me at the last minute. I was under the gun to move out of my old apartment in just a few days. Tyree contacted me immediately and we set a move date/time. They showed up on time, were very professional and respectful. These two men moved some very heavy furniture from a second floor apartment in one building into a third floor apartment. I know it wasn't easy but they still moved pretty quickly. I wanted to stay at 4 hours for the move but it took a little longer. They even helped me get some bigger pieces that I couldn't take with me out to the dumpster. It was a successful move and great experience. It's hard to hire someone online - especially when you need to have them into your home. I would definitely hire Perfect Moving again.

These guys were amazing. My girlfriend and I were moving from two separate apartments into one from NC to WV. They moved crazy fast, but were still very careful with our stuff. They managed to get the entire packing done in a little over 3 hours, all while being very friendly and completely professional. They did a great job of explaining any additional charges (of which there were barely any) so that nothing caught us by surprise at the end of the day. To sum up, the price was great, the movers were great, and I would definitely use pick up movers again and not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

I have moved every year for the last 11 years. Barbara and her team were by far the best movers I have ever used! She called it "the no look back service" and sure enough, when they left there was nothing left to handle. She jumped right in to help me clean, they packed up things that I was planning to grab later. All together they saved me HOURS of work! She has a great team who were extremely friendly and worked very hard. I have always used the bigger moving companies, but I was thoroughly impressed with the level of customer service and friendliness I received from her and her team. Hopefully I do not have to move again in a year, but if I do, I would absolutely use this service again!

These guys handled an extremely difficult move with an incredibly amazing attitude. My entire apartment (3rd floor townhome to third floor walk up) was done within hours and I had a stingy sleeper couch that literally couldn't fit through the door (previous movers had put a hole in the wall trying). Jeff and his team told me that i wouldnt pay a dime until they completed the job- couch and all- and they delivered on that promise - going above and beyond to get the couch to my new place in one piece. Incredibly kind, professional crew and a clear commitment to quality of work. Would recommend them for anyone!

We used Easy Movers to relocate our offices twice. The crew was on time with plenty of men and equipment to effectively handle the job. I was meeting with an out-of-state client, and was unable to supervise the move, however, our staff had labeled all of the boxes and equipment, going to two different destinations, everything was moved into the correct space the first time. In addition, Easy Movers also offered to store several items for us and recommended ways for us to label our boxes and files for both long and short-term storage. The staff from Easy Movers made our move stress-free, fast, and very cost effective. I highly recommend them, they are the only movers I will use, and the only movers I would recommended to others.

Jay and his associate, I forgot the name, were great. I will definitely recommend and use them again next year. They were quick and efficient with moving my belongings. There were a couple blemishes but I did not expect everything to be perfect. Their supervisor called me after the move was completed and provided a discount on my next move for the minor issues. I appreciate feeling valued as a customer. The movers worked their butts off. Again, I will recommend and use again.

All the guys at Flat Rate Movers were great this last Saturday! It was the easiest move I have ever made due to the quick and efficient work that all 3 of the guys from Flat Rate Movers did. I was so stressed out the night before the move because there was still so much to do, but when the cheerful, positive guys showed up from Flat Rate Movers came right in to begin, I could see they were experienced and confident in their work. The guys packed things up in Statesville and headed down to South Charlotte and unloaded all within 5hrs.! These guys were helpful, respectful, strong, prepared, and able to get a decent size move done in less time than we hired another well known franchised moving company a few months ago to move my fiancé's things to Charlotte. That company did a great job too but was WAY over-priced, would not even fill the truck up unless there were additional charges, and took an additional hour to move less things from Statesville to Charlotte. I highly recommend anyone to hire the guys at Flat Rate Movers- and I am a very particular person with my things-who isn't? It is a scary, risky situation when you hire a moving company because you never know how it is really going to go. I can say Derek, Chris, and all the moving guys at Flat Rate Movers will take the stress and worry out of your moving day....and at a more competitive cost than other moving companies. Let their personable staff take the dread and fear out of your moving day.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.
