I recently used Hornet Moving and was very pleased with the service. The 2 young men were very professional, careful and very quick. Start to finish was 3 hours, with a stop at a 2nd home to pick furniture up as well. Very happy with my choice in moving companies

I hired Get It Home to move my law office furniture. The movers were courteous, quick, and efficient, while still handling my furniture with care. They wrapped all pieces with moving blankets and cellophane to ensure that nothing got dinged, scratched, or broken. I've used several different moving companies around the Charlotte area (approx. 6) for both personal and professional moves and Get It Home is by far the best! I no longer have to search for a moving company that won't damage my furniture! In fact, the day they moved my office, several other businesses in the building asked for their number after seeing what an excellent job they did!!! Thanks guys!!!

I'll start by saying I would hire them again if I needed to move. Professional and introduced the whole crew upon arriving on time. Continually asked questions throughout the whole day about what's staying and going and then where to put it upon arrival at new location. The initial estimate I received was very low 4hrs but after I sent a detailed list of items it was changed to reflect a more realistic 7hrs and 3 men. Still priced below most other competition with end charge of a solid hard earned 8 hrs. Extra hour more based on requiring two trips with smaller truck in rush hour traffic. Guys worked straight through lunch in hot and humid day from 3rd floor apartment while still taking care of our property. One negative was miscommunication prior to start: Other moving companies stated to leave clothing in dressers so I assumed without asking this was same for all. I had to quickly remove many items for transport in hastily acquired boxes. Again my fault, but assume this was because the previous company utilized sling harnesses to manhandle our items while these guys used dollies.

One of the simplest, most straightforward moving companies I've ever used. FAST, CAREFUL, HONEST, PROFESSIONAL best describe my movers and the company. Very professional, the movers arrived within the window on which we agreed, and called when they were about half an hour away.Very impressed! I would use Strategic Movers again in a heartbeat.

From the minute I completed my request on Thumbtack, Global Professionals emailed within 10 minutes with a great quote. After I accepted, CJ called each day to make sure he didn't miss anything and that I didn't have any questions or concerns, until moving day. I was downsizing from a 3800sf home to a 1300sf home and was already stressed to my limit. CJ and his team of 6 guys showed up at the exact time they said they would, came in with 2 trucks and worked like a choreographed group of ants. All of the guys were so respectful to me and each other and did whatever CJ told them to. They each introduced themselves to me with a handshake and their name (can't remember the names but remember the faces), I heard yes ma'am to me, thank you brother to them helping each other, there was no cursing, no backtalk, they took very few breaks as a group and none individually, wrapped my furniture and artwork in blankets and shrinkwrap and even kicked off their shoes to keep my floors clean! We even needed a 3rd truck and I was very pleased with the overall price. These guys worked tirelessly for 12 straight hours and the only thing I had to do was point to the rooms where stuff went and as an artist I had a lot of stuff! You hear the nightmare stories of moving companies but not this one. I had no damaged pieces and they broke down and re-assembled my furniture and placed it where I requested. I smiled the whole time as I couldn't believe how easy they made it for me! I was so thankful about the whole experience I gave each worker a tip that they immensely appreciated and I suggest you do the same when you book Global Professionals, you won't regret it! I am another very happy customer, Jacqueline Dunford

Absolutely fantastic job moving us today!! They took great care of each item, and moved at a good pace. I can’t recommend them enough!!! They took apart each piece of furniture, and reassembled it in better shape than when it was dissembled. I can’t thank you enough!! Everyone should hire them!

I have moved every year for the last 11 years. Barbara and her team were by far the best movers I have ever used! She called it "the no look back service" and sure enough, when they left there was nothing left to handle. She jumped right in to help me clean, they packed up things that I was planning to grab later. All together they saved me HOURS of work! She has a great team who were extremely friendly and worked very hard. I have always used the bigger moving companies, but I was thoroughly impressed with the level of customer service and friendliness I received from her and her team. Hopefully I do not have to move again in a year, but if I do, I would absolutely use this service again!

I have hired 5 other moving companies in the past. None of them came even close to the efficiency levels of Pick Up Movers. They conducted my last move and were just fantastic. I have had many of my valuables broken in the past. But these movers performed a miracle when they delivered each and every item I own undamaged to my new house. The movers deserve all the credits. They were just very experienced in every aspect. They knew exactly how to do the job properly.

This was a move from a 4 Bedroom house to another house in the Charlotte area. I have always moved myself with the help of friends. But since getting older this is no longer an option. I have to admit that I was very hesitant to have a moving company move me, as I have seen many news segments about various moving scams. The news show "60 Minutes" did a story on this subject. Thankfully "Road Haugs" is not one of THOSE companies. They are professionals. My move was on time and went very smoothly. Should I have the need to relocate again, "Road Haugs" will be the company I will turn to.

I move all the time for work so I have experience dealing with moving companies and I can honestly say Robert and his team were awesome! Although they were running a little late due to the afternoon thunderstorm, they absolutely made up for it with non stop hard work. They took the extra effort to make sure all my furniture was protected, then set up every room in my new home which saved me 2 weeks of time trying to carry boxes all over my house. Would definitely use you guys again and would recommend you guys to everyone. Thank you for all you guys did yesterday!

Jay and his associate, I forgot the name, were great. I will definitely recommend and use them again next year. They were quick and efficient with moving my belongings. There were a couple blemishes but I did not expect everything to be perfect. Their supervisor called me after the move was completed and provided a discount on my next move for the minor issues. I appreciate feeling valued as a customer. The movers worked their butts off. Again, I will recommend and use again.

These guys were really nice, worked fast, and none of my furniture was harmed. They had to haul some large pieces up steps with a difficult angle at the top and handled it really well. I'd definitely hire them again. Only issue was they showed up a bit late. Thanks!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
