I hired two movers with a two hour window. The men were great. They were friendly, professional and moved quickly. Considering I moved to a third floor apartment with no elevator, I was very pleased how expediently they worked to get the job done. I'd use Hornets moving again. Thank you for making my move easier.

Overall okay experience. I would encourage the movers to take their time moving items and not be in such a hurry so items are not damaged. The mover offered to replace item however I declined but I did appreciate the offer. Movers were professional overall and very personable.

Ray always responded quickly and had his employees move two pieces of furniture the same day. The only reason I gave 4 stars, instead of 5 was because the movers were a little late. They still got the job done and the employees were polite and respectful.

Hands down the best movers I’ve ever had. They were on time and got to work quickly. The building i was moving into was under construction so it was a bit of a pain for them, but they remained professional (even when some of the construction crew didn’t). They still found a way to finish ahead of schedule. Great experience!!

I was all over the place but Tony with calm demeanor was helpful and allowed me to settle and breath. My biggest fear was the movers arriving on time and they were there and ready to get it done when i actually wasn't. There was no pressures and my overall experience was well enough to call him when I need to move again and also recommend his services to family & friends.

We used The Strategic Movers for our move this week and as soon as they arrived to the house, they started immediately. Earl and his team were professional, courteous and extremely understanding during a stressful event for us. We couldn’t have asked for a better company to move us! We highly recommend The Strategic movers, they went above and beyond for our local move.

The speed and ease of booking the appointment was great. The confirmation and communication from the main office and the Bellhop team Captain was also timely and very re-assuring. The team was very friendly, professional and worked very fast. We have moved to and from several suites in this office building over the years; and what usually takes other proffesional movers 10-12 hours, these guys did in 3 to 4 hours! Amazing! We are already planning to use them again for another project.

I needed my table moved from my house I sold to my new house. The were there right on time and proceed to breakdown the table. They found several issues with the way the previous movers had set up the table. They cleared these issues and then packed up the table and moved it to the new location. When setting it up, one of the legs had a stripped treads on the bolt that help the leg to the table. They worked to correct this, found the solution, and get the table set up. I highly recommended them. They were able to save all my felt and did a crazy good job leveling the table.

I had a move scheduled with K&K a couple of months ago (moving into storage) and they had some misfortunes come up that prevented them from making it happen. Kenneth was uber apologetic and asked for a second chance if I ever moved out of storage. This past weekend I took him up on the offer and they moved everything into my new residence. The movers were 15 minutes early and did a phenomenal job. They were all super friendly and took great care of everything. I rescind my previous review and certainly recommend K&K for your next move.

I found Perfect Moving on after previously booked movers cancelled on me at the last minute. I was under the gun to move out of my old apartment in just a few days. Tyree contacted me immediately and we set a move date/time. They showed up on time, were very professional and respectful. These two men moved some very heavy furniture from a second floor apartment in one building into a third floor apartment. I know it wasn't easy but they still moved pretty quickly. I wanted to stay at 4 hours for the move but it took a little longer. They even helped me get some bigger pieces that I couldn't take with me out to the dumpster. It was a successful move and great experience. It's hard to hire someone online - especially when you need to have them into your home. I would definitely hire Perfect Moving again.

ATA Enterprises helped me with my move. They were very professional. They arrived on time with three movers and were able to help me in a reasonable time frame. Their pricing is awesome and I highly recommend them. At one point they asked me to sit back, relax and let them do what I paid them to do! Great job guys!

I can see why this company is number 1! First of all I would like to say that not only are their prices competetive but Chase was very professional. He was flexible and was able to come out at the time i needed. However I had a last minute change and he was able to accommodate that time as well. He showed up on time and was fast and friendly and most of all professional. I will definitely be a repeat customer when ever i need something moved. Thanks again!!!

True Blue was very professional in their response to my request for grass cutting. They sent the technician out for a quote. Which was sent the very next morning. Once I paid online - which i was a little bit sceptical - i was scheduled for services the very next day. He came out - did an excellent job and i have since started my twice monthly service. I would truly recomment TrueBlue.

For the first time in my life I am writing any reviews. Actually after taking the awesome service, I decided to write this review for Pick Up Movers. Movers came on time at the day of the move, they wrapped and boxed everything perfectly and moved all my belongings in one piece and without a scratch at the destination. I checked the inventory and did not find a reason to feel unhappy. I am grateful and thankful to this great moving company for a wonderfully executed move.

They ensured everything was wrapped, including the doorways and the floors, to protect all of my things and the home. I highly recommend them!

As a recently divorced mother of three, I was extremely nervous about choosing a moving company for my big move down the east coast. I got about 50 calls from brokers trying to earn my business. Most of them were pushy and downright rude. Over whelming to say the least. I received a phone call from a young gentleman by the name of alex and he definitely put me more at ease. The customer service was superb and he answered my thousands of questions. I have never made such a large move by myself before (relocating from Michigan to California). I will be referring all my close friends and family members to this company. Everything went as smoothly as I had hoped. The movers arrived on time and I was able to meet all my belongings at my new house in west palm! I would recommend them to anyone

Just wow. What can I say. "Full of Grace" is full of patience. First all, it was a last minute booking done yesterday with a job completed today. Felicia told me 3:30 pm but she and her crew showed at 2:57pm. However, they did not rush me at all. Instead I called them in at the appointed time so I could try and get things in better order. This place was not optimal for cleaning at all. But instead of looking forlorn, Felicia and Sory took off running....I mean running. It was like watching a well-oiled machine behave like a piece of art. Incredible. Professional? There aren't enough words to describe how much a professional this team happens to be. Yes she will have a conversation with you as she is scouring the oven but believe me her focus is on making everything shine and cobweb free. Doesn't even matter if there is extra for Windows or Refrigerators or Ovens...does not even matter because it is so worth it. In my opinion, even though they didn't ask for it or wait around for it...this service is well worth a 30% tip. Also, trust is a major factor. I left both she and Sory inside my home for at least 20 min on 3 separate occasions and felt like they were self-starters! Helps that both are educated as professionals in other fields so management of time is second nature. Took under 3 hours. Can't wait to see F.O.G. Aka Full of Grace takeover much of Mecklenburg cleaning services. Wow.

Reggie and his crew of two hard working young men were on time and on task - from the first contacts to the last packed, loaded, trucked, offloaded, unwrapped and precisely placed box and bed. He is a real professional, and the job went like clockwork. I really enjoyed dealing with Reggie, through all the planning he was ready with a precise answer. Thanks, Thumbtack, for connecting us!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
