I first had Gabriel come out and give me a free estimate. Since he appeared to be the most professional and courteous among others I had interviewed, I decided to hire him. He worked with me to select the product we needed for replacing our garage door opener. I bought the product from Lowes and he came to install on a long weekend (which was convenient for me). He did a good job installing the opener. Only improvement I recommend is that Gabriel's arrival time estimate can be somewhat improved (although he was within 30 -45 minutes of when he said he would come).

Tim and his crew have now completed 2 jobs for us at our property. The first was to finish installing vinyl shutters and do extensive plaster work on the ceiling of our garage where there was water damage. The second was to do a number of smaller projects related to dog and use damage, from replacing a window sill and baseboards, to installing new wood floor transitions, grout repair and recaulking a shower upstairs. Without exception all of this work was completed to the letter of what we had asked. It was also done in a much quicker manner and more professional manner than my wife or I could have accomplished. Tim was also very responsive with both e-mail and phone communication, and the price was also fantastic. I would highly recommend them for any project you might have as we've been very happy with them on both of our projects.

The front door of our home needed some help. The door jamb was damaged and the deadbolt as well as the latch did not line up properly. We also needed to weather proof a situation where the door had not been hung properly. This not just looked bad but was also a security issue with being the front door. David fixed the entire situation quickly and very nicely. He also fixed the old threshold and replaced the hardware (deadbolt and latch). Very responsive, knowledgeable, helpful and capable. We would highly recommend David.

They did a great job of communicating and the guys that did the installation were great as well. The only thing that I found odd was that there ended up being no handle on the outside of the door to open the garage door, the kit didn't provide one. The installers gave me some options but I opted to wait and just do an opener later. I'm sure if I would have been upset enough about it that they would have taken care of it but it just wasn't that big of a deal for me. I would recommend this company as a reliable, trustworthy company.

My car was stuck in the garage because of a broken door spring and I had an important appointment. The staff on the phone was very kind and after a short time a technician arrived in my compound. He replaced the broken spring and now, I have a super functioning door!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
