What do you love about your job?
What I love about my job is said easily. I can think of no greater satisfaction than knowing that the tax preparation and tax and financial planning work we perform for our clients is instrumental in changing their lives for the better. We currently serve over 750 individual and business clients across the United States each year, and all of those clients have been gained through word-of-mouth advertising. I also love that we consistently provide quality service at significantly lower costs than other professionals in our industry, and that we are able to accomplish this due to our low-overhead business model and client volume. With more than 30 years in this industry, I cannot think of doing anything else. Frankly, I don't even think about retiring.
What or who inspired you to start your own business?
My father, J. Robert Rukosky, was an accountant and ultimately a chief operating officer. He was my mentor not only in my professional life, but my personal life as well. He taught me about work ethic, serving people instead of just making a living, and the meaning of the word "quality." I decided to start my own business for several reasons, the most important of which was because I thought the pricing for professional tax and financial planning was unaffordable for the average person, whom I identify with. We accomplished that by building a low-overhead, high volume business model. Second, new clients told me that they wanted to have all of their financial services handled at one source so that an integrated approach to their financial lives could be accomplished. In response, we built a team of highly qualified and experienced professionals to offer those services. The final reason is personal. I love seeing people smile when I solve whatever financial challenges they may have or when I help them reach whatever goal they are striving for.
