Kim, Thank you so much for the service you are providing at BLC. When you confirmed to me that your staff consisted of educators currently in the school system, that reassured me that your location was the perfect match for my daughter. Your staff knows the school curriculum and what my daughter needs to have a successful 3rd grade year. Since October I've seen progression and as recent as December my daughter received a level 4 on her Case21 reading. Thank you for going above and beyond by ensuring you and your staff are in constant contact with the teacher(s) as well as being available to attend face to face parent/teacher conference meetings if needed. We are looking forward to the EOG study and camp out sessions. There's more work to be done, but I'm confident we well meet our goals for this school year with the help of BLC! Thank you!

I highly recommend Amanda's style of working with kids. She helped my son with his reading comprehension where others haven't been able to and he has been able to build from it.

Caryn provides instruction for my first grader in reading, writing and math. Her professional experience, warm heart and enthusiasm for teaching creates a perfect learning environment. My son's classroom performance and confidence at school has significantly improved as a result of Caryn's dedication to her art. She easily identified my son's learning style and tailors each session to his unique needs. She is a master of integrating learning objectives, curriculum and fun. Caryn's communication with the classroom teacher and family enables us to have a unified team working on a common goal.

Heather is a awesome teacher! She is highly experienced, kind and caring teacher. Heather has been working with my two children, who were diagnosed with a learning disability in reading and in writing. She is so very kind and patient with my kids. She was able to connect and teach them on their level. As a result of working with Heather, my children are now reading on grade level. As a parent, I have seen my children self confidence grow and they have also developed a love and excitement for reading and learning new things. If you are looking for someone to help get your child reading on grade level or help them maintain their reading level I would highly recommend Heather Chapman. She is a awesome teacher!

Ms.Jami started tutoring my children (ages 3 and 4) in Spanish a little less than a year ago. During that time my son's natural interest for reading increased but decreased when working with mommy. Ms. Jami did some preliminary testing to see if he was truly ready and soon she began tutoring him in reading also. Initially, I was concerned that he would not be able to tolerate 30 mins of Spanish then 30 mins reading. However, he is able to maintain in seat behavior with a short break between subjects and the 60 min sessions go by quickly. There is an award system in place to manage behavior and fun interactive hands on activities (singing, music, tactile and visual stimuli) which sustains their attention. As an educator it evident that tasks are age appropriate and consistently tweaked to meet the needs of my children. My children are day and night in terms of personalities and learning styles. I am alway's amazed how Ms. Jami manages both of them in the same session. A sign of a great teacher and a gentle spirit. Ms. Jami presents with weekly lesson plans, carry over activities, affordable rates and she genuinely likes children. I highly recommended her, she is one of my best finds on Craigslist to date! The children love and respect her!

Bruce has been performing general tutoring services for our child once a week for about six months now (with focus on reading / writing). Bruce has been very instrumental in boosting our child's confidence in reading / writing. In fact, our child even went up two reading proficiency levels on recent school assessment. Bruce works in a non-threatening or pushy way that promotes and encourages higher academic achievement. Our young child has never whined or complaint about the tutoring sessions, which we see as a testament to a positive tutor/student relationship. Our child has also discovered a love for writing detailed, imaginative, story "books" which our child loves to read and share. Our child is reaching all academic goals, and in some cases, even exceeding them! We believe Bruce has been a key component to these successes. Bruce has shown to have as a top priority helping develop a love for life-long learning without dimming creativity and individual expression. We recommend Bruce wholeheartedly!

I got Debra's name through a friend who's daughter has difficulty with studying. Best $40 I ever spent! Debra is incredibly patient with my son (4th grade) on his reading skills. After a quick evaluation, she knew the best approach for him. We are having Debra on a weekly basis now. Very reasonable rate -- I would gladly pay more for Debra's tutoring.

Christina is a very skilled professional in terms of tutoring, editing, and writing. She aided me in the proofing and editing of my resume within the higher education profession, where I now hold a position at a highly regarded university. Her attention to detail, and quick responses are unprecedented. I also have had the unique opportunity to witness her skills as a teacher and tutor for younger students, where her patience is exemplary. Very happy with her work. Would use again!

Krithika is an excellent tutor. She knows all the conventions, rules, expectations, and online resources for topics of high school writing such as critical thinking, literary analysis, research papers, SAT prompts, and college admissions. Like her profile says, she brings passion to the subject. Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious, so not only has my son’s writing improved, but so has his interest in the subject. She’s an excellent communicator who can connect with the student as well as mediate with the parent. I am sure her advice and guidance are going benefit my son for the rest of his life.

Club Z was exactly what we were looking for our son. Evan just graduated high school and is preparing to go to college this fall. He needed help with improving upon his writing skills so that he would be well prepared to handle the writing challenges in college. Becky was Evan's tutor and she did an excellent job in helping him achieve that goal. His writing skills have greatly improved as well as his confidence in his abilities. I would highly recommend Club Z for anyone looking for tutoring. Cecelia Mills, Durham N.C.

              About

I help students in grades 6-college improve their writing skills and reading comprehension, either to boost their grades or score higher on the verbal sections of the ACT or SAT. Although I have a Master's in English, 10-plus years of teaching and tutoring experience and a background in professional writing, I believe it's my enthusiasm and dedication that play the biggest role in my students' success. Whether students are struggling to achieve proficiency, hoping to improve on a past SAT or ACT score, or seeking the skills to go from Bs to As, I'm able to meet them at their level and assist them in meeting their goals. There's nothing like having a student tell me, "I remembered what we talked about, so the questions were much easier," after a test, or, for example, seeing the look on their faces when they finally understand the difference between a dependent and independent clause after having struggled with grammar. In fact, I get more joy from learning that a student went up 80 points on the SAT reading/writing section than I ever do seeing my name in print as a professional writer. I enjoy sharing my passion for English so much that I have to set a timer on my phone or I'll nearly lose track of time!

I am familiar with several citation styles, including Chicago, MLA, and Blue Book. I also have experience tutoring for expository writing, such as college admissions essays. I can also help to prepare students for standardized testing, such as the GRE and LSAT. I am available to tutor these subjects at a high school and college level in the Triangle area. EDUCATION: Ph.D. in History, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 2016 J.D., Duke University School of Law 2011 M.A., Duke University 2011 B.A. Swarthmore College 2006 Relevant Work Experience: Teaching Assistant, UNC-CH 2012-2015 Teaching Assistant, Duke University 2010 Textbook Production Assistant, Apex Learning 2007-2008 Please ask if you would like to see a summary of my teaching reviews from UNC. I love being able to awaken students' passion and curiosity - I truly believe that good teaching can make any subject accessible and enjoyable to motivated students. For this reason, I tailor my approach to an individual student's learning style, and focus on hands-on interactive techniques and activities rather than lectures or rote learning. Each student brings a unique perspective to their work, and I believe I learn just as much from working with them as they do from working with me.
