From August 2015 to November 2016 I had the pleasure of being an adult piano student of Josh Thompson at the Charlotte Music School. I found Josh to be sincerely interested in my progress as a student. He provided a good mix of theory, songs and the mechanics of playing. This helped provide me with motivation to do better and keep with the practice required. Josh would also listen to me to find the genre of music I was interested in then would suggest skill level appropriate songs. Corrections to playing were both constructive and non-demeaning. His corrections typical were accompanied by a demo of the correct technique followed by playing along until the correction was accomplished. I would recommend Josh as a piano instructor to students of all ages.

Justin is an amazing musician with such a gift for teaching! My children (ages 7 and 11) have been taking ukulele and guitar lessons with him for about a year and we couldn't be more pleased! Justin is so patient and makes lessons fun. He truly fosters their love for music by teaching them through music they are interested in. They come away from each lesson with a new song or skill and a smile on their faces and they can't wait to see him each week. I am amazed by the progress they have made while working with him! I cannot say enough about what a wonderful teacher Justin is and I would highly recommend him to anyone in search of a talented and professional guitar or ukulele teacher!

I’ve enjoyed my lessons with Luis. The lessons were very helpful to improve my piano technique and raise my level. I even learned Moonlight Sonata, which I have not been able to even read before. He is a wonderful, talented teacher: passionate about music, fun, great communicator, attentive to my needs and preferences, flexible with his lesson plan to accommodate pieces that I want to learn. Luis has a solid understanding of a student’s educational needs and how to plan his lessons to instruct based on a student’s level. He pays attention to a student’s technique and suggests exercises that are fun and essential for improvement. It’s not too much fun playing scales over and over again, but he suggested pieces that are more melodic and fun to play. He is very motivating and I always came out from class inspired to continue practicing.

Radical productions performed the music at my wedding. They did a good job. The only hiccup was they forgot to sing the Lord's Prayer during lighting unity candle. They were on time and set up. They provided my minister with a lapel mic for a fee, which was ok because the hotel was gong to charge 350.00. Over all pleased.

I studied voice with Elizabeth Field for about a year. I had never sung before, and was uncertain about beginning in my 50's. Ms. Field dispelled my fears and helped me improve both my singing and speaking voice beyond what I could have hoped! She worked hard to find just the right music for me, pieces that challenged me but weren't more than I could handle. Her lively personality and dedication to her students made studying with her a joy!

About

As a piano teacher my goal is give each student a well-rounded musical education. When my students "graduate" from my studio they should be able to play with good technique, read music well and be able to sightread up to their playing level, play at least a simple melody by ear and know how to accompany it with at least basic primary triads, know how to play a "fake" piece using lead sheet music and understand how to play the accompanying chord suggestions or use chord substitutions, play at least a simple 12 bar blues progression and improvise on the blues scale, grow in their knowledge and understanding of music theory which is the basis for doing so many things in music. To help to facilitate their learning of music theory, and the many elements of music, each student gets to spend some time each lesson with a wonderful, easy to use computer program. I expose my students to classical music and teach them the stylistic interpretation of each era, and in addition encourage them to explore any type of music they love and would like to play. Here are some reasons I think I excel as a piano and voice teacher: I enjoy teaching, first and foremost; I enjoy seeing the musical growth and development in my students over the years that they are with me; I understand the process of learning (and teaching); I have fun with my students (keeping lessons as stress free as possible); I encourage my students to have a can-do attitude, not only in regards to music but also life in general. I support my students to go as far or as fast as they want to go. Our studio enjoys a very supportive environment where students support each other in group lessons, recitals, parties, festivals, adjudications, etc. I offer my students a wide variety of opportunities and they can choose their level of participation. I approach voice lessons in the same way, working with my students to develop strong and healthy vocal technique, and to learn and sing a variety of music, My years of study in Music School and University in addition to my many years of teaching, reading, attending professional conferences, workshops, and my affiliation with several professional organization, along with my willingness to learn, adapt, grow and be attentive to my students musical needs and preferences, I believe, make me a skilled teacher and create for my students an outstanding and nourishing studio environment.

My students get the benefit of one on one instruction. We use multimedia ways of learning as we learn different styles of music. Beginners will have two lessons per week the first year to facilitate a good flow of learning. This also offers more guidance and be- coming more secure at the piano. My hope is for my students of all ages to love learning the language of Music as they apply it to playing the piano.
