Sergio and his team did great work on my laminate floor & baseboard moulding installation project. They had great attention to detail, problem solving skills, worked quickly, and the end result was excellent. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is due to a misunderstanding on their part of my detailed job request that led to an awkward discussion. It ultimately got resolved amicably. I would hire again, but make sure to clarify expectations before starting work.

I had a wonderful experience with Correa Drywall. Christian Correa (owner) was an excellent worker, his skills with dry wall exceeded my expectations. But what I really like about Christian was his attitude! He always cheerful and positive even though when he ran into difficult situations that need to be resolved. He also does painting, floor works (tiles, laminate & hard wood). I highly recommended this company to anyone that needs these services.

I recently decided that our carpet had to go for pet and allergy reasons, and wanted laminate flooring installed. After getting several estimates, I decided to go with Rob. Rob gave me a very reasonable estimate, was responsive and helpful throughout the project, asked minimal help from us in moving things around (only clothes near the floor and breakables), and best of all did a fantastic and professional job with the flooring installation. I am thrilled with it. I also appreciated Rob's willingness to deal like a person and not nickel-and-dime over minor issues. I would hire him again.

Professional, cordial and knowledgeable staff ready to not only help you to find what you are looking for, but exceed your expectations. With my home purchase, this is the people I trust with all my flooring needs! They offer carpet, vinyl, laminate, hardwoods, ceramic and others. I loved their free estimates and in home consultation service. They set up a time that is convenient to you and bring out samples to your home or place where you want to change the flooring and help you match your walls and your furniture if you prefer. You can go in to their showroom located in North Raleigh even on weekends! The price they quote you includes the moving of furniture, something other places require that you do before they even consider working on your floor! You really cannot beat their service, pricing, professionalism or experience! Give them a try!

No words can express how awesome this company is! We got rid of the vinyl flooring in the kitchen and carpet in the hallways and had hardwood floors installed. Chris came out and showed us some samples. He talked us through the whole process and explained everything to us. He is very knowledgeable in this industry and gave solid ideas and advice. Just talking to him, you can tell he knew what he was taking about and has a lot of experience. His crew came in and got right to work. They worked hard and did high quality work. They were courteous, professional, kind and knowledgeable young men. You can tell they love their job and take great pride in their work. Their main goal was for us to be happy. Chris took the time and showed us different stains on the floor itself so we can get an idea of what it would look like and make the decision based off of what we saw. They used quality materials and stand behind their work. We also had the carpeting replaced in the living room and all bedrooms. Another outstanding job and crew.

Interior painting of two homes, and laying of laminate flooring in one. We received several quotes for this job; Bob's pricing was good and his service was too! He showed up when he said he would, provided skilled painting, and then returned in a timely manner when we added additional painting for him to do. In addition, he has a pleasant, friendly personality. I would recommend for future jobs.

I relocated out of state and in the interim I put my house for sale. My realtor showed me some estimates without remodel. After reviewing the comparables in the area I decided to put some work into it and am I glad I did. Like many of us there was a budget to stay within. Pondered my options for a short while then I hired Alan to do some bathroom remodel, painting, deck, tile work, laminate flooring, and a variety of small jobs including electrical and plumbing work. When the projects were completed my husband tried to talk me into keeping the house because it looks so nice LOL He traveled quite a distance and did a great job. What I was equally impressed with was after his work was done he stuck through the entire inspection process for my closing. The house was only on the market for 4 days and I received full offer. Pretty impressive to me. Good listener, nice work, and just as important Alan had that old fashion work ethic. Took pride and showed up when he said he would on all occasions. I think he was just as concerned in my budget as I was even when he was purchasing supplies for me. I am definitely grateful to had found someone affordable and hard-working who actually cared and did a great job. I would definitely recommend Alan Melton.

Water Damaged due to inadequate waterproofing.(Removal of patio door, decking boards, exterior wall 4x12 up from foundation,3 I joists and Vinyl Siding). Mr. Richardson came as a recommendation by someone he had work for over the years. Called him on a Sunday afternoon and he was able to come out within 2.5 hours of my call. Before he was done looking over the job and explain the circumstances to me he was hired. Hired because he didn’t try to talk numbers but solution to the problem. See other contractors came in and all I heard was $$$$$ without letting me know the solution. Mr. Richardson, explained my problem so that I was able to fully understand the work ahead of us and then told me that he would need to go back and look at materials, permit, inspection rules for the type of work he was about to do and then he can provide an estimate. He also warmed me that an estimate will be provide based on what he can see, but may or may not increase once he starts to remove the damaged materials. Well the cost did go up, but it was not a shock to the system since I was informed up. The work was done properly and along the way he would show/explain either an issue or resolution. Work was done within the promised time frame, past inspection with flying colors and I was very pleased with the end results. The inspector that came out to do inspections at different point of the work had nothing but positive feedback. With his comments I knew that I had hire the right person for the job. Word to the wise, don’t judge a book by the cover. Because someone doesn’t show up in a F150 or company name on the pocket of their shirt doesn’t mean he cannot do a good job. Licensing and recommendation is the key. I started off with the big names and ended up with a small, but reprebiale individual. Mr. Richardson is a contractor, that takes pride in his work and he does it with excellence.

Andrew did an amazing job replacing laminate flooring that had buckled and rotted. He also replaced some door trim. Very affordable (the work ended up costing less than original quote), and responded super quick (unlike many other vendors I contacted who never got back to me). Definitely use him! You won't be disappointed.

Full hall bath remodel. Ramon was awesome! He tiled to the ceiling above our bath tub with the inserts/ shelving for shampoo etc. and all the flooring into a bathroom closet. He pays attention to detail, is very thorough, and took the time to listen to exactly what we wanted. He went above and beyond to put all the tile in exactly how we envisioned. It looks incredible. He did not rush, he is a true artist and his pricing was fantastic! We will be using him for our master bathroom remodel in the next few weeks. He knows how to work with the plumbers and made sure the floor was all level before he started. We would highly recommend him. I am a Realtor and have many clients and home investor people I know in the industry who need flooring such as laminate or MDF or engineered or hardwood. Personally we won't use anyone else now. This has been a wonderful experience, and we are so grateful we found him! Shelby, Raleigh Cary Realty. (919) 400-0482 please call if you need a reference or other. Posting photos next week.

They offered the absolute best price out of all the folks we contacted to install laminate flooring in the downstairs of our home. I had a certain style of laiminate in mind and they were actually able to guide me through the purchase of it through their vendor at a much discounted price. I think i was able to get as much as 10% off of what we had originally expected to pay. I definitely highly recommend them!

In a nutshell Ed completely remodeled our first floor after we had a pipe break damaging our existing hardwood floors. We took this opportunity to make some changes which included painting (which required wallpaper removal), removal of a half wall, installation of new laminate floors, new ceramic tile floors, new pedestal sink, and countertops, and several small repair items. The quality of his work is excellent and he pays very close atttention to details. He ran into several issues, for example, an unlevel floor in our 1/2 bath. He showed and explained the problem then corrected it. He is honest and fair with his pricing. We will definitely hire him for our next project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
