We had Kevin paint a few rooms with high ceilings for us. Kevin is a skilled painter and we felt like he did a good job painting. He was friendly and courteous and I felt safe having him in our home. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was that he did get a little paint on our carpet and on our tile that I think could have been easily avoided had he just laid down some plastic. I wish I would have requested that.

Roy and the gentlemen he works with, Sean and Tyler, are great people to work with first and foremost. They are extremely professional, perfectionists and their work shows their integrity. They listen, make great suggestions and are willing to go the extra mile. We were building our home were working with a few unruly contractors that weren't living up to what they promised and were falling way behind. One night we Googled contractors and ran across Thumbtack and Royal Home Renovations. We reached out to Roy who came out the next day to look at our project. I had estimates within days and he and his crew started on our home almost immediately knowing the timeline we were under. They had a full workload but again, they made sure that we were treated like a priority. He also has a great network with other contractors which shows his work ethic and personality. Here is the list of work they accomplished on our home: Trim, Molding and Baseboard Hung Doors, Door Fixtures Including A Sliding Barn Door and Pocket Doors Acacia Wood Floor Brazilian Matte Porcelain Floor Carpet Marble and Concrete Zero Entry Shower Closet Shelving Bathroom Mirrors Stacked Stone Around Kitchen Island Shiplap On Fireplace Wall Tile Backsplash In Kitchen Custom Backsplash In Wet Bar 3D Marble Accent Wall Exterior Siding Epoxy Garage Floor I have attached a few pictures of the work that was done on our home by Royal Home Renovations. I was limited to the amount of pictures I could attach, wish I could add more pictures of their work. Roy, Sean and Tyler definitely came to our rescue and we will be forever grateful.

Initially we had Kurt repair/grout some bathroom tiles but soon we added more to his to-do list. We are getting ready to sell our house and Kurt ended up helping us with a number of things including installing a new shower door and showerhead, patching and painting minor wall and wood trim nicks and hanging a new door. He was always on time, had the right equipment and took pride in his work. Our house is over 60 years old and he was good with that. He had creative solutions to our problems and helped us make repair decisions. We felt lucky to find him and would definitely hire him again.

We hired CT Construction to remove tile and were so pleased with his quick response and quality work that we hired him for many other jobs for our home renovation. He ended up being the primary contractor for interior renovation of about 400 sf. He installed our wood floor and did a great job, working extra hours to get it done for us, plus the bathroom tile floor. He also installed our new kitchen cabinets, quickly overcoming a problem with an unknown existing condition, he also installed the moulding around the new and existing doors and windows, plus many other jobs. He is hard working, dependable, takes pride in his work...I can't say enough good things about him. If it weren't for Chris we would still be in a hotel.

CJ was prompt and very accommodating of my schedule. I had asked him to finish and repair a previous contractor's work on my wood floor. He did a beautiful job of matching my existing wood, and the thresholds look like they were there from the beginning. I would definitely hire him again for future projects.

A+ Tile Company is one of the best tile installation companies in the Lincoln/Omaha area. The quality of service, construction knowledge, and customer service is top notch. I have personally taken the years of experience and values that I learned from this company and jump started my own successful business in Colorado. If you are looking for a contractor to treat you like family at fair prices with top notch quality work I wouldn't go with anyone else other than A+ Tile Company.

We hired Chris Newman at A-1 Carpet and Vinyl to install engineered wood flooring as well as tile in our basement. Probably a total of around 500 sq. feet between the two rooms. Chris worked quickly and acted professionally throughout the course of the project from the initial bid through the completion of project. He removed and replaced our washer/dryer and left the area clean once he completed. I would strongly recommend Chris Newman and A-1 for any flooring needs. I have a renovation planned for a bathroom next fall and will without a doubt have Chris back in for a bid/evaluation.

Jerry tiled a bath/laundry room for me recently. He did a very nice and quick job. He tore out the old flooring and leveled the area before putting down the tile. We are happy with his work and his rates are most reasonable.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

    • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
    • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
      • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
    • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
      • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
    • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
      • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
    • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
      • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
      • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
      • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
        • Includes removal of the dura rock.
    • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

    • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
      • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
    • 620 square feet of maple floor:
      • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
      • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
        • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
