We had Felipe do painting of our entire 5-bedroom house as well as a multitude of repairs. He and his team do great, professional work at a very reasonable price. Felipe is kind, clean, calm, and a good listener. He was able to work seamlessly alongside a second renovation group that we had in the house at the same time without any issues or conflict. As well, he and his team worked around my 1-year-old and his nanny - one of his painters would even make cute faces and make him laugh as he was eating his lunch! Ultimately, Felipe is a great contractor and a super nice guy to boot. We’d hire him again in a heartbeat not only because of the quality work he does, but because he’s such a good guy.

What a treat it was to work with Dennis! He is friendly, upbeat and easy to work with! I had two very old dinning room tables that needed refinishing. Not only did Dennis pick them up and deliver them, he completed the job much sooner than expected and did exactly what I asked! He noticed one of the tables needed some repair and he took care of that as well! Now both tables look brand new! I would not hesitate to hire him again and would definitely recommend him!

You know it's crazy that when you read reviews and all the ratings were Five Stars then you read a review that seems to me like a vindictive person. To me it's like "Wow" I didn't have any issues with JDQ. I do realize that there are some control freaks out there that once you finally put a stop to all the belittling and complaining they have to some way shape or form try to destroy a good hard worker reputation. When I was calling around for a professional handyman and builder I was so out of my realm. I spoke with many different businesses, most left me feeling like I didn't know what I was talking about and crazy for some projects I wanted complete. I even had them come to my home and what a mistake that was. Stone-age coming back in full force! I was at my dentist and there was a JDQ business card, first thing I saw that made me comfortable was that Mr. Quintal is a veteran, then I called him and what a pleasure! Of course after the last companies I spoke to I was gun shy to ask for what I want completed. Mr. Quintal suggested that he should come to my home and have me walk him through all the projects I would like to have completed. When he pulled in my driveway, about 15 minutes early, he had A tape measure, pencils and crazy builder paper. He walked me through all the steps that he would have to do to complete my projects, never leaving anything out. He didn't make me feel like I was a moron and he was very respectful. When we walk through some of the steps for the project the suggestions that he had were brilliant! I would have never of thought of it, and deftly didn't see it on Pinterest. I felt so comfortable with JDQ that once we agreed on which product to start first I let Mr. Quintal have a free-for-all to add any ideas that he seemed to fit. Before any adjustments were needed he would run it by me first and try to find the best bargain for the supplies. He is definitely the best woodworker/builder besides my father and that setting the bar pretty high! So thank you Mr. Quintal for fitting me in while you were working with that crazy lady, your full calendar and making my project dreams come true and even better that I first imagined. Now when I have company over to my house I get so many compliments on the work completed it makes me gitty and want more completed. I genuinely feel that JDQ is worth every cent I paid him. Everybody out there before you call anybody else call Mr. Quintal and I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. So thank you JDQ for all your hard work and sweat poured into my home. Your forever future customer sincerely, PIC! Happy Veteran's Day!

Alex and his crew were outstanding. The job involved both painting and woodworking for a loft with 15 foot ceilings. Everything was impeccable and his communication throughout the job was excellent. I could not recommend Alex and his crew more.

Kerry does excellent work! I have used him multiple times and will use him again. He has made old and damaged woodwork look fabulous. He also does terrific plaster/sheetrock repairs. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He really listens to what you need and is straightforward and honest about what needs to be done, and keeps your budget in mind.

I needed some help installing a new ceiling fan that I was ideally looking to move. Kirk was more than helpful and even though we discovered the fan couldn’t be moved without rewring it, he was still able to help me get the new ceiling fan in place & patched up some holes in the ceiling near it. If I have any carpentry needs in the future - I’ll definitely be calling Kirk first.

I had a wonderful experience with 2 of Josh's employees. I had tried unsuccessfully to put together a 60" TV stand with 2 cabinet doors. Bob and Patrick arrived promptly at 9 AM and were done in one hour. They worked quickly and efficiently and even set up my TV, DVD player and cable equipment. Working with Kandice, who did the scheduling, was a pleasure. I will definitely use Joshua Tebou, Carpentry and Woodworking the next time I have a project. I highly recommend them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
