I signed up for Spanish lessons with Sara about two months ago to prepare for living in Peru for a while. I cannot say enough good things about my lessons with Sara. She is smart and patient, provides useful feedback and encouragement constantly, and has an abundance of interactive activities that help to solidify different concepts. Every week my knowledge of how Spanish worked expanded and my ability to confidently speak and understand the language improved. Sara is incredibly professional as well; she was always prepared for our lessons well before they began and our lessons almost always ended up going for more than an hour. She also always had my homework corrected before we would meet, so we could quickly review the lesson from the previous week and move forward. Sara molded my lessons around what I wanted and needed to learn, and went above and beyond in providing additional resources to study outside of our sessions each week. She has a knack for simplifying difficult concepts and making language-learning FUN rather than a chore.

I had felt very nervous just before i started to take English lessons from Raul. I had some anxiety and a negative thought about i will never learn English. After taking my first class, i changed my negative thought. I have been taking English class for 2 months and i feel the differences and improvements on my language skills. Raul is a perfect teacher. He is so professional and informed about how to teach. He makes me more courageous to learn English every day. He is also very patient, kind, friendly and understanding. He shares all his informations, sources and experiences about what you want to learn. Learning with him is a big joy. I feel not only happy but also very lucky to know him and to take class from him.

Roberto is an excellent teacher! He is patient and starts off as slow or fast as your individual needs may require. Roberto made the lessons fun and engaging with a lot of conversation, which is what I needed most from my Spanish lessons. In a short amount of time I was able to speak quite a bit of Spanish, enough to even communicate with locals in South America while I was on vacation. I would highly recommend Roberto if you are someone looking to learn or improve your Spanish while having a lot of fun and spending that time with a very cool guy.

My 10 year old son started trumpet lessons with Connor Frost - FrostForward Learning at the beginning of the summer. Connor is an enthusiastic, friendly and very dedicated instructor. He has done an amazing job teaching not only the fundamentals and notes but inspiring the love of the instrument. My son is now excited about attending band at school and is practicing often in hopes of being considered for a spring concert solo. Thank you Connor for all that you do!!!

I’ve only been meeting with Humberto about a month but it’s been very helpful to keep my Spanish learning going. Lessons are a mix of conversation, vocabulary/passage work, and grammar work. I had previously taken classes but I’ve appreciated the flexibility of being able to schedule a time that works best for me each week. The near grand central location is also very convenient.

Isabel has taught both of my girls Spanish and French since they were toddlers (over 10 years!). She still teaches them and they understand everything in both languages and have fantastic accents. She is perfectly bilingual in both languages due to her Spanish family and upbringing in Paris. She is unfailingly cheerful, loving, energetic, and positive. We love her so much that she is like a part of our family. My kids talk about wanting to live in Europe and they always get an easy A+ in language class in tough private schools. She is amazing.

Saul is a very talented and patient teacher. He takes his time getting to know what you want out of lessons, and is very flexible in his approach. When one way wasn't working, he found another. As someone who desperately wanted and needed to learn guitar, but sorely lacking in "natural ability", he was a perfect fit for me as a teacher. He brought me a long, LONG way in a short period of time. I highly recommend him!

I highly recommend Ana for her professionalism and expertise in Spanish instruction. Having studied Spanish many years ago and in an academic setting, I needed a teacher to help me make my conversation more natural. Ana would listen very carefully and teach me how a native speaker would express my somewhat stilted expressions more idiomatically. Ana deep knowledge of Spanish was a wonderful resource for me when I wanted to understand the subtleties and nuances of advanced grammatical concepts. She is especially proficient in teaching Spanish for business and commercial purposes. I highly recommend her.

My wife and I have known Norma Gil and Ruby Acosta for 5 years. During that time they both have cleaned our home. Their attention to detail is excellent and they always arrive at our home at the time agreed. They do a great job and do it in a professional way. They do not clean around things, but move items and clean under. Norma and Ruby are completely trustworthy and honest. They are a lot of fun to speak to and they love our dog (Alice) and are very kind to her. Alice is always excited when they arrive. Norma and Ruby have given us recommendations about Restaurants and Dog Sitters. Both met up with their description. My wife and I would be very happy to give them a Five Star rating. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
