    Classical for All

    (7 reviews)

Emir Gamsizoglu is a concert pianist with a unique story; he started to play the piano at the age of 20, after quitting his career as a professional basketball player in the Turkish league. He was the oldest student ever getting accepted to Istanbul State Conservatory's Piano Performance Department. After his training in the conservatory, he studied with pianist Huseyin Sermet in Paris which made him understand the difference between studying in a "school" and with a master musician outside of "school". With this inspiration, he found his unique technique for teaching piano, which is based on creating a personal connection between the listener/player and the music. Apart from his solo recitals and chamber music concerts, Emir Gamsizoglu is known with his interdisciplinary projects about classical music, like "Unwritten on the Scores", "Drama in Beethoven" and "Chopin's 200th Birthday". Emir G. has been teaching piano for the last 15 years. Because of his extraordinary story, he is a unique teacher especially for adults. His music appreciation series under CLASSICAL 4 ALL are getting attention both in his homeland Istanbul, where he travels often for concerts, and in New York where he currently resides. Contact us to enroll in CLASSICAL 4 ALL's group class or private instruction. Classes are open to students of all levels and for ages 10+.

    Piano Playground

    (6 reviews)

Piano Playground specializes in piano lessons for children in a positive learning environment. Lessons are focused on the student being an active part of the learning process through learning fun pieces, playing musical games, drawing activities, listening to famous piano music, and learning about famous composers. All of these activities are included in lessons and are important because they reinforce everything the student is learning by practicing at home. Our philosophy is to promote the student's personal development and growth through an exciting exploration of the instrument. The goal is to awaken their awe of music and enrich them by revealing the music artistry within them. Our teaching process recognizes that fun is an important motivator for children. Therefore, piano studies are conducted with a spirit of play and sense of adventure in every lesson, which engages the attention and energy of the student, promoting deeper learning. Developing pianistic skill is a powerful way to affect a young person's attitude and character for future endeavors by fostering life skills that lie outside the realm of musical skill. While the focus of every lesson is to develop musical proficiency, we also nurture other positive characteristics in children, including confidence, curiosity, discipline, patience, self-esteem, and work ethic.

I have been teaching for over 10 years. I teach privately full-time and run my own company. I personally hire other enthusiastic and experienced music teachers to work with me. I believe learning music should be fun. While it also takes hard work and dedication, a student must first enjoy music in order to continue and progress. My teachers and I incorporate well-known songs into lessons so that students can relate to what they are learning. We also use many of our own games and worksheets to keep students engaged at all times. We offer many different types of lessons including singing, piano, acting, guitar, songwriting, and much more. We also offer two (optional) recitals each year so that students can showcase what they have learned. I love watching students of all ages progress and accomplish things they never thought they could accomplish. This helps them to grow not only as a musician, but also as a person. I have watched all of our students become more confident as their lessons progress. It's exciting because music education is so much more than just teaching students notes on a page.

I am a New York based pianist and piano teacher. I also give instruction in music history and music theory. Like many people, I began playing the piano at a young age and soon fell in love with the instrument. This led me to pursue a degree in piano performance and since then, I have had an active career in performing, writing musicological articles and providing musical instruction to students of all ages. As a teacher, I learn as much from my students as they do from me. The most important thing to me is that my students enjoy the process of learning, and I do this through taking the time to understand and appreciate each student's unique personality and skill set. Every student has the potential to be great at what they do-all they need is motivation, hard work, and a passion for learning. My job is to provide the student with the tools to succeed and enjoy music!

  • Lessons in Piano, Guitar, Theory, Composition

    (17 reviews)

I bring to lessons a solid and expansive education in music performance, theory, and composition in different styles, as well as the ability to explain and display the necessary skills in a variety of ways for a diversity of learning styles. I teach an aggressive curriculum, but one that is tailored to the student's individual strengths and weaknesses, and I always remain gentle and patient while guiding my students through the rewarding process of learning to create music. I enjoy so much about my work, and here are just a few elements: -Sharing my love for music with those eager to learn the art for themselves. -The moments when the student finds expression the music, transcending the notes as they're written on the page. -Seeing my students perform at their recitals, where they share everything they have learned. -Meeting so many incredible people who are all connected by a love for music!

Here is my piano teaching method in a nutshell. I like to teach through songs. We can essentially tackle any style through my method. The main method is one I developed called the reverse engineering method. I like to show you a few chords and then apply it immediately to a song. When we start, I’ll give you a set of easier material(chords/scales/melodies) on 2-3 songs. Then you can suggest songs you want to learn. There’s a couple staples that I think are necessary for everyone starting off. Then we come to the next stage. When you get to pick a song. When there’s a song you like, we’ll reverse engineer the song together to show you how it’s constructed. Each and every song has a bass line, chords, and a melody. Just about everything can be taken from that point. e.g. Piano technique, understanding the keyboard, theory, chords, melody, specific chord rhythm on voicing and even melodic harmonization. Don’t let this overwhelm you. We can go as deep into it as you want or don’t want. There’s a base level we need to accomplish of usually chords or partial melody before we can move on. I teach all styles including, classical, pop, blues and jazz. Please let me know if you have any questions. I enjoy the work because it's very fulfilling to see my students grow. It's really amazing to see when there was something they couldn't understand but a few weeks later they get it.
