We have had two training sessions with Ariana and our two four-month old Chow-Shepherd mixes, and we couldn't be happier with what she has taught the pups and us so far. The dogs adore her and respond well to her training techniques, and she clearly has a lot of in-depth knowledge and experience working with dogs and animals in general. I appreciate that she has a background in animal behavior, so she understands why they act the way they do and uses that to redirect their behavior. We look forward to many more sessions with her!

I had the pleasure of working with Caitlin, one of the trainers at The Canine Cure. We ended up board and training one of our dogs and boarding the other one as well. Caitlin took into consideration all of our concerns and did a great job building the foundation for our pups training. She was also very good about keeping us updated about both of our dogs while we were away on vacation and both of our dogs seemed like they were well taken care of during their stay. I will continue to use her services in the future and definitely would recommend her for anyone looking for a dog trainer.

Rick is an absolutely amazing dog trainer. He helped us with an unruly dog when we lived in New York; he has assisted us in training our Miniature Schnauzer long distance in Arizona. He has guided us in making her into a competent service dog . He really knows his stuff and always gives great training tips. I highly recommend his services.

We are a household with very long work hours and frequent travel and having a reliable walker and sitter is really key for us. Sarah has been so accommodating and wonderful to our sweet rescue pup Sophie. After recently moving to the area, we originally found another business on Yelp that ended up really mistreating Sophie e.g. left her for hours alone in her crate. So it's such a relief to have found Sarah after that experience and to know our pup is in great hands when we're away. It's really just priceless. Sarah is our go to daily walker and we look forward to her frequent texts with updates from the walk. She's also been very flexible with last minute changes in our schedule including overnight boarding in our home. We really can't recommend her enough and feel she's a very dependable caregiver and excellent communicator.

Adene was fantastic! She came over beforehand to make sure everything was set for our time away and while we were on vacation we got picture updates every day! You can tell how much she cares about the animals she takes care of and we will definitely be hiring her again for our next trip!

Daniela is absolutely AMAZING with our little pug puppy, Duckie! We love how she takes such good care of him while we are away, and she is wonderful for boarding as well! It's a wonderful thing to work with someone who loves our little guy as much as we do! We are so happy with Daniela's loving attention to our little Duckie, and we would gladly refer her to anyone looking for a petsitter!

Heather is one of the most amazing and responsible animal lovers I have ever encountered. She puts all furry friends before herself, and would do anything to make sure they are well-tended to, happy, and taken care of above and beyond. She has dogsat for my 5-pound toy poodle on and off for about 10 years now, and I wouldn't trust anyone else. I do believe he now loves her more than me! I would not hesitate for a second to hire Heather. She is timely, intelligent, personable, caring, and a general pleasure to work with. She will also provide frequent (and hilarious) updates for you if desired. Love her!

SO GREAT. Texts every day to let me know what my little darlings at home were up to, great communication, and a real discernible love of animals. I've never been more relaxed away from home, knowing that Cindy was dropping in every day to see the girls, say hello, change the little and full bowls. 4our Paws are excellent and exactly what we needed- will be using them again and again.

Rosie's Tails and Trails was exactly what I was looking for. They were able to take my dog on short notice, and provided him with plenty of love and attention. I was kept informed about my dog each day I was away, and received pictures of him to keep me updated. The service is great value, and definitely high quality- I strongly recommend to anyone who needs their dog boarded, or just watched for the day.

Stacey came to my home to watch my little zoo. I have 4 dogs, 2 cats, 2 birds & a hamster while I was on vacation for 2 weeks. She was phenomenal with all of my babies. Two of my dogs are elderly & has to take medication every day, one takes it twice a day. She had no problems administering the medications. She took the time to send me pictures & messages daily to keep me informed on how they were doing & to put me at ease. She had no problems walking my great Dane, Pitbull, Yorkie & Shih Tzu. I didn't want to leave the animals alone, so I asked if she would house sit for me & stay at my home for the 2 weeks I was gone. She had no problem staying in my home & sharing a bed with all the dogs. Even 1 of my cats followed her everywhere & slept with her She took in my mail, watered my plants & kept my house neat & tidy, even vacuuming. Stacey truly loves animals, all animals & loves taking care of them & walking them. I'm having surgery soon & I am so happy & blessed to have found Stacey. I know that she will take good care of my zoo when I'm in the hospital, but I feel lucky that she will walk my dogs when I come home to recuperate. Which really puts me at ease knowing someone I trust will be helping me. It takes a huge weight off my shoulders. I just can't say enough wonderful things about her. If I were you in wouldn't even consider hiring anyone else. She is not expensive & she charges what I feel is a fair amount. Boarding animals is too expensive for me. So I'm glad she prices fair. She also give discounts if you have more than 1 dog to walk or more than 1 pet to care for.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is horse boarding?

Horse boarding is like rental housing for your horse. Horse boarding is helpful for people who don’t have the space or the resources to install and maintain a stable on their property. A horse can be housed in a barn with other horses and receive the care they need. Owners can visit their horse for riding, grooming, training, etc. Horse boarding services may vary based on the company and the price. Some horse boarders may offer short-term boarding of 24 hours to several nights for people passing through an area, while most offer boarding by the month for horses whose owners live in the area. There is partial- and full-service boarding, which indicates how much of the work of feeding the horse and cleaning the stall is the responsibility of the owner rather than the boarding barn. For an added fee, horse boarding can also include grooming services, riding and training, medication administration, and more.

To find the right boarding fit for you and your horse, make a list of your top priorities. These might include immediate access to riding trails, round-the-clock supervision, or a nearby or affiliated veterinarian. Always visit the site to learn exactly where your horse will be kept and whether the barn and grounds are in good condition. Read reviews, and always practice smart hiring. It’s also critical to sign the proper legal documents that protect both you and your horse, such as boarding agreements. Above all, make sure it seems like a place your horse will be comfortable between your visits.

Where can I board my horse?

You can board your horse at any barn or stable that provides horse boarding services. To find horse boarding near you, read reviews of area locations and speak with equestrian friends to find one with a solid reputation. Ideally, the location will be within a reasonable drive from your home or office. This is especially important if you are paying for partial boarding services and are responsible for feeding your horse and cleaning its stall each day. You may choose your boarding barn or stables based on the services they provide. Some offer more extensive amenities — at an added price — that reduce the amount of work you need to do to keep your horse comfortable. Consider whether you want training, blanketing, exercise and other perks in addition to standard offerings like hay and stable mucking. Your stable may have temperament requirements and proof that your horse has the proper vaccinations required by your state. This protects both your horse and the other horses in the stable. Many states require that locations offering horse boarding services have stable licenses that are renewed each year. Always be sure to enter into a clearly written boarding contract that will cover your horse and belongings in case of accident, and remember our tips for smart hiring.

How much does boarding a horse cost?

Finding the right horse boarding location is a big step in a horse owner’s life. This will be the place your horse will live and where you will visit multiple times per week or even daily. The cost of horse boarding will depend on the level of service you desire, the location of the stables, and the luxury level of the property. Here are some examples of average horse boarding costs:

  • Overnight stabling: $30 per horse per night.
  • Partial boarding (owner feeds and mucks): $220 per horse per month, with a three-month commitment.
    • Administration of oral medication: $10 per dose.
    • Bandaging: $20 per event, plus cost of materials.
    • Trailering to vet if owner is unable: $25, plus $25 per hour to wait with horse.
  • Basic full boarding: $325-$350 per month per horse. Includes twice daily hay and daily stall cleaning.
    • Horse training: $20 per session.
    • Pasture turn out: $20 per session.
    • Blanketing: $1 per day/$30 per month.
    • Vet or farrier hold: $20. This means haltering the horse and standing with it as it receives treatment or shoeing.
